Well, probably Mrs. Hudson would clean it up too.

I could see both intentional and unintentional experiments in a bathroom that Sherlock owned.  Or they may start out as the latter and then intrigued Sherlock so that they become the former.

Yup, like how many places would support black mold before either John or Mrs. Hudson noticed it.

Hmmm...maybe that's why 221C is never rented. Sherlock makes sure it stays too damp so he can run mold experiments.

In ASIP there is no mirror above the fireplace at 221B, but in TBB the designers have installed the mirror.

Really?  So does that mean that it's Sherlock's mirror?  It does look expensive enough to seem out of place in a furnished flat.

Posted

Well, it's not John's mirror.  He doesn't really seem to have much of anything.  Maybe it's on the floor waiting to be installed in ASIP?  I will have another look around.

Maybe the mirror was a gift from a thankful client? It's pricey.

In reality probably someone from the crew got the idea of a camera hole in the wall between E2 and E3 and they had to mask it somehow.

Maybe, I need to look around ASIP again and see if I see it in the flat just that it hasn't been hung yet.  After all, the boys HAVE just moved in.  Much of Sherlock's stuff is still in boxes.  Perhaps we should all take a look at it and see what familiar things have not yet gone up on the walls or been put in place.

Yep! The mirror is there propped up against the thing separating the kitchen from the living room, behind John, when he says "Of course we will be needing two" bedrooms, so it came with Sherlock's things since the good doctor hasn't had a chance to transfer his things from his digs yet.

My pleasure! I sort of notice incongruous things, so when you asked, I simply went back to Study in the scene where they first moved in and located it. Did you notice how the flag cushion is also apparently Sherlock's, so his jibe at John in The Great Game about Queen and country applies also to him. It is on top of a box of other stuff.

I know, a constant  irksome item for both Paul McGuigan and myself...we're not keen on union flags!

So, you would prefer a simple blue background with the white cross of St.Andrew on it, is that what you mean?

A real estate blog (!) made an estimate of 221B's market worth and came up with almost 1.7 million pound sterling. That would be just the flat, mind you, and judging by the nice 3d blueprints does not even include John's bedroom upstairs. Central London living sure ain't cheap .

If you read the extended article (after the neat graphics), you'll see that she does deal with John's bedroom, and assumes it's nearly the same size as Sherlock's (with an adjoining bath), coming to 380 square feet.  Without John's suite, she got 1,756 square feet -- and she inexplicably uses the same 1,756 square feet in her calculations.  However, her "comparables" (nearby apartments that have sold recently) were two bedroom / two bath units.  Also taking into account that John's quarters may not be nearly as nice as downstairs, her comparables really aren't, meaning that her price per square foot is probably a bit too high.

Not saying that the place would be cheap, though!

I still say John's is the only room upstairs and NO bathroom.

On the flag cushion: a Saltire one would have been lovely.

But I wouldn't expect that of 2 Englishmen in London...so a St George flag would be fine!

John emerges form the bathroom in TRF...form the direction of the lobby leading to Sherlock's room(and the bathroom)...he would have come downstairs or entered the kitchen from the hall, if he'd come form any other bathroom!

Yes, I believe you're correct about John coming out of Sherlock's little bedroom suite. But that doesn't necessarily mean that he has no bathroom facilities upstairs. I can think of three possibilities: 1] He has a toilet and sink, but no tub/shower; 2] He has a tub but prefers a shower; or 3] He has a shower but prefers a tub. And that's not even counting 4] The water pressure is really anemic up there (I had an apartment like that once) or 5] His drain was clogged that day.

If John's room is the only thing up there, then he has an extraordinarily big room.

It may be the only finished room up there, but I doubt that it actually takes up the entire floor!
Rewatching TSoT, I noticed John's also showering in the bathroom next to Sherlock's bedroom when Sherlock's trying to guess his middle name ("Higgins?"). That discards the tub preference and clogged up option (unless it is permanently so), at least. I really don't think he has proper bathroom facilities on his floor to be honest.

John could still have a tub preference as mentioned with Sherlock taking a bath in HLV and the water splashing that happens with there still being on 1 bathroom in the whole of the flat.

Right, John is clearly using that shower again in TSoT, so he apparently doesn't have a usable shower upstairs.  I'm not exactly married to the idea that he has any bathroom/toilet facilities, just that it still seems an open question as to whether he might have at least a toilet, possibly a tub, maybe even a shower with inadequate water pressure.  It does seem clear that John doesn't consider whatever's up there to be proper bathing facilities, at any rate.

How long is it till Series 4?

The special is in about 10 months then who knows on the actual season. (probably closer to the end of 2016 into early 2017... I know, I know, the agony of the wait.)

Lol, they take so long between series, I wouldn't be surprised if we start discussing their favourite toilet paper brand or John's choice of wallpaper soon!
