No I don't. The idea came after several people here watching SHERLOCK marathon and because of Molly's fashion sense depicted there we are talking about what kind of party attire might suit her. Guess it means I saw her as barely out of her teen, eh. XD

How about this one:

I think either of those would look good on Molly, though perhaps in a different color.  I suspect the dress she wore to the Christmas party was someone else's choice (friend, store clerk -- someone with a different personality from Molly's).  The dresses she wore for the wedding and the christening seem more her style, the sort of thing that someone with a cherry sweater would wear.

@Carol: Black tie at least. I am thinking about sapphires and diamonds jewelries set on white gold.

Black tie ;)

I'm having a hard time imagining Molly being comfortable at a black-tie event, and/or in a long dress. I think she'd feel like she was faking it. But perhaps that's just because I project myself into Molly pretty regularly.

Sooooo, what would I be comfortable being seen in? If I had her figure, probably more than I think now, but ....

hmmm... I think this one's pretty classy .... http://www.blacktieguide.com/Supplemental/Ladies/nordstrom_cocktaildress3.JPG

The fabric's too shiny, but maybe this? http://www.blacktieguide.com/Supplemental/Ladies/nordstrom_eveninggown.JPG

Oooh, here's a whole bunch I like. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/121104677453633449/

Pretty limited color options in that type of dress, though. Guess color is too flashy. Well, there's a few red ones. I guess if you're going to wear color, you might as well go all out.

@Arcadia: Number 1 is a cocktail dress but it is classic. What kind of body shape Molly's anyway? I cannot see under all those unmentionable pile of fabrics.

@bedelia: That's a cocktail dress too. But you might be right, Molly is not the type who would prefer a gown that attract (admiring male) eyes. She might hide from embarrassment.

Maybe if it weren't quite such a slinky fit? Slinky doesn't feel right for Molly, to me. I love the lace (although I always wonder how scratchy it will be to actually wear.... )

Agggh, you're asking the wrong person, I highly dislike velvet. Too .... I don't know what. Impractical?

*giggles* The colour and style then.

Nah, the style's impractical too, all that material pooling on the floor. And she'd have to be awfully confident about her figure to be comfortable in it.

Here's something the actress wears. Wish I could find a bigger photo of it. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/3b/d7/03/3bd7036bd0113ad88da66f998ccd6bc3.jpg

High- heels ;)

That might suit LB but the colour is too harsh for Molly's complexion, just look at the Christmas party. On the other hand, if her aim is to blend with the background then black is acceptable.

Oh lord, please don't inflict high heels on the poor woman!

Lol! Just for a few hours, I am afraid that flats for that kind of party would not do. ;)

Why would Molly be at such a fancy party in the first place? All I can think of would be if she or someone dear to her won an award. Like if Sherlock ever were actually knighted, though I'm not sure what sort of dress one would wear then.

And I don't think one need be ashamed of one's body to be uncomfortable with a revealing dress. I've been perfectly comfortable at naturist gatherings, but even when I was Molly's age (with a very nice figure) would have felt downright silly in one of those off-the-shoulder gowns. Black tie means the men are wearing tuxedos, right? Then why can't a woman wear something equally dignified?

I was thinking more about how velvet clings and reveals every bump. Urgh.

She could be at a wedding, I suppose. I quite liked the little yellow number she wore to John's, except for the silly hair bow.

Dignity reflected on the way you carried yourself. Molly's all appearance in parties so far doesn't strike me as being dignified, if any I pity her for having the air of awkward wallflower. She can borrow Mycroft's fashion sense but if her demeanour still like that even the most closed-up clothes could not help. On the other hand, a 'Bond's girl' attire on someone who knows how to carry herself well (example, Irene Adler) would mark her as someone not to mess with.

Exactly. So why do you keep suggesting Irene-style clothes for her, again? :p

I suggested dresses that would not make her stick out like a sore thumb in black-tie party. She is the girl from next door type instead of femme fatale like Irene and Anthea but still, the yellow monstrosity made her resembles a two-legged giant sunflower and that's exactly her sense of fashion that is on discussion here.

On the topic of 50's vintage dress, this would look good on her:

I really think the dark green a few people have suggested would be lovely on her.

I do also like the idea of lace- (don't worry Arcadia, they have linings, you don't feel the lace on your skin!) because I think vintage styling always has to be a factor to really seem like Molly to me. I've seen LB in a few Victorian- inspired but modern blouses that really suit her, and could imagine Molly in something similar. It's so hard to picture her in a really showy dress, as it doesn't seem very 'her'.

For me the yellow dress at John's wedding was too bright a shade, I think mustard or something similar would suit her too.

Yay Bedelia! (Shoves her between me and Shadow.) Let's get Molly into something she'd be comfortable in! (Runs the other way.) :p

I do worry that whatever fashion sensation we put on Molly, you could turn your back and find two seconds later she was stuck some form of giant bow to her head which threatens to ruin the whole ensemble.

Side note: I didn't like Molly's make-up as much this season, because there were times I noticed it too much and they used contrasty lipstick etc, thought it looked harsh and contributed to the 'woman-on-the-edge' pigeonhole they had her stuck in.
