They may have actually used it on-camera for that scene -- but basically it's his "on set" parka, to keep him warm while waiting between shots.  Not quite Victorian, is it?

Mark's tweet.

:blink::wacko:

Someone threw out a hilarious, and truly diabolical theory if it was true, that maybe they're dressing everyone in Victorian garb just to go to set and then changing.  I don't think they'd waste the time doing all that with so many people to throw us all off, but man if it were true!

I had that very same thought. Great obsessed minds work alike.

Regarding these signs --

-- this blog has photos of similar ones from May 2013, when they were filming "The Sign of Three," except that they say "SV BASE."  Whatever that means!

Why bother with the coded signs?  Setlock knows where they are!

Maybe it's to help prevent some spoilers and leaks as to what the episode will actually be about.

Actually, why bother with signs at all?  The props-truck guys can just ask the fans along the way for directions.

(Or is that what you meant, sfmpco?)

Maybe they're all being filmed while standing on their heads?

Was it raining there during the day?  Looks awfully wet, and Loo looks quite cold!

Posted

Looked dry in earlier photos I saw.  Maybe it rained later in the day?  Or the crew threw water around as an excuse to get a few more umbrellas...

I know yesterday there had been some rain and from what I saw as setlock was winding down today that people were saying to stay warm.  So it is possible there was some rain today, but it was definitely on the chilly side.

Posted

Temps have been in the 40's (F) the past couple of days, breezy, cloudy, no info on precip.

If no rain, what were all the umbrellas for? Just to block the view of onlookers?

That's what I gather... here is Loo evading the umbrellas for a moment.  lol

Setlock Day 3 is in Cardiff, and I know they were reassembling the 221B sets earlier, so they may be filming on those sets or somewhere else in Cardiff.  However, they are supposed to return to Bristol soon.

Apparently the Bristol post had initially posted some major spoiler pics of the cellar set but the page is no longer found on their site. However, under the #setlock hashtag, those pics can still be seen and yes major spoilers as to what things looked like for the set. Since I'm on my phone, I won't even try to include them here in any form. But they were interesting.

This is probably good for me.  Might restore some sense of sanity to my life, today at least.

I think I saw those somewhere, just wasn't quite sure whether they were real and from that particular film set.

One showed a table with some kind of old-fashioned laboratory equipment on it, one another table with a big lens and a book and some pencil drawings on the wall behind it. Then there were two that showed dead  bodies wrapped in sheets. The overall impression was pretty grisly.

If these pics really were from the new Sherlock episode, then I suppose the "it's all a hoax" theory is out for good (not that it ever was very likely), because who would bother to create a fake set? Also, costume party becomes less likely as well, unless that had a late Victorian mass murder theme.

So right now, I'm thinking time travel. Either actual time travel (oh god, I hope not), or mind palace time travel (I'd like that a lot better) or just the story going back and forth between two different times and including lots of flashbacks to a story within a story, the way some old Doyle pieces did. In that last case, however, one would have to wonder why the characters in the flashback look just like the modern-day characters.

Another possibility would be the whole thing being an incredibly sick game played by a new villain.

 I feel like Sherlock, enumerating my ideas, only he tends to narrow them down and find the truth, while my mind spirals out and out and gets nowhere...

I just had a closer look at those photos. I can't link to them, because for some reason the forum software won't let me, and they're not very high quality, but from what I can make out,

the head in the jar (that Mark Gatiss sent around a picture of) is on the table with the book and the lens, and there is something that might very well be a human limb on the lab table. The whole thing looks like a morgue or an anatomical / pathological institute. Like a place where Molly would work, only set a little more than a hundred years back.

Yeah, I don't see how it can possibly be a costume party at this point. Would seem pretty weird. But no, not timey wimey travel. Gah. What is going on?!?!?!

We'll have to continue to be the patient "little" fandom that waited (about another 11 months if we're lucky) to find out. While Moftiss laughs because...:evilinside:
