I'm a southpaw myself, and I think most of us are at least a bit ambidextrous by sheer necessity to use the right hand frequently because, while there are left-hand mice, scissors etc., they are few and far between in public setting and such. As for keyboards, I find the basic QWERTY/Z setting actually more lefty-friendly ... most of the "common" letters are on the left half, and the typical gamer "WASD" setting is for the left hand too.

Can't help with the latter, but for the numpad at least, there are numerous keyboards (example via random googling) that have a detachable number block, which you can put left or somewhere else for that matter (I've seen gamers use them that way, for shortcuts).

Re entitlement: I had to learn very soon, that the world won't change to meet my needs. I'm 100% with Shadow.

Re representation: It's nice, but the political correctness of entertainment lately, starts to go on my nerves. When representation starts to be more important than quality it's the end of art and entertainment. BTW I'm also very sceptical about women "quota". We should deal with the roots of the problem, and not with the outcome.

Agree 100%.

Hopefully, one of the lessons people learn from this debate (if they needed to learn it, that is) is that most of us don't regularly see accurate depictions of ourselves on screen, and it is useful to be able to learn to see yourself in more than one character.

I see a lot of myself in Mycroft.  I'm not a balding man in a government position with a frightening amount of power, but I can see myself.

I see myself in Irene.  I don't provide "recreational scoldings" from a posh London address, but I see myself in there.

And Irene is a giant exception for me because I usually don't identify with female characters at all, and I never like movies/shows that go out of their way to hit some imagined quota of "strong women."  I often tell people I'm the girliest girl who was ever a girl, and yet my favorite characters to identify with are almost always men.  I've never seen the point in thinking that I couldn't do something just because I've never seen someone with my anatomy do that thing, either on screen or in real life.  If I want to do it and it isn't against the law or my morality, I'll do it.

Yeah, well, there's still a bit of a gradient here, imo, between "I'm not accurately represented on screen" and "my sexual orientation, if it is ever mentioned at all, is only used as a set-up for punchlines".

I'm more troubled by how the villains use sexuality to menace our hero. CAM, Moriarty, Irene, now one of the new villains ... they all emit signals of wanting to be intimate with Sherlock against his will. And since all but one of them are male ... (and the female is the only one who has clearly stated that she prefers women! ) ... I'm definitely getting some odd vibes about their attitude towards male on male sex. I will be generous and assume that's not what they had in mind, but it's really easy for me to see why some people might think it is.

Utilitarian people see sexuality as only one of the tools in their arsenal, certainly no different than wit and charm. Eyes to the goal, ladies and gentlemen *wink towards the crowd of baddies:

Maybe along the same lines, but the interesting thing here is that men are not usually portrayed as the potential target of sexual assault.  I think it is interesting, and perhaps a positive turn in story-telling, that Moftiss are exploring the idea that the most frightening threat may not be that someone would kill you but that someone would attack and damage your most personal barriers.  (I can't think of a better way to put that.)

ETA:

(Spoiler box to be safe)

I think that the scene in the hospital with Culverton Smith is repurposing the deleted scene with CAM, so I actually consider those to be the same scene and a single occurrence in Sherlock's life, not two.

As I wrote so many times, it would be great to have representation. As gray asexual, almost gender neutral, left handed, introvert, highly sensitive, overweight women in her very late 40ies fighting with depression.

^ Minus the left-handedness, and adding Asperger's and PTSD to the depression, this sounds like me.

I liked reading through this thread.  I've been a little appalled by things I've seen from the fandom over the last couple of weeks, and it's nice to know that I didn't spend 5 years avoiding the fandom only to jump in now and find myself awash in conspiracy and odium.

Welcome, my child, to the Sherlock forum. We will nourish you, and comfort you, and quite possibly drive you deeply around the bend. Our pleasure. :P

(Seriously, glad to have you aboard! Don't mind the inmates, we're largely harmless. Except maybe Shadow Dweller, I think she's carnivorous. xd :welcome:)

Thank you!  I'm proceeding with caution, but I look forward to the prospect of enjoying and discussing the show with someone other than my skull.  =]

Uck... Said the radioactive-green-glob eater. Arcadia is the one you might want to keep eyes on, she's the reason Sherlock have eyeball on his tea cup.

ETA: (Spoiler box to be safe)

Any actual plot points need to go in a spoiler thread. Spoiler boxes in non-spoiler threads are only for setlock observations and the like, which are generally about equal parts conjecture and possible spoiler. What you had in the box is very close to true spoiler territory, but since your wording was so guarded (as well as being inside a spoiler box), I won't bother moving anything to another thread.

I know it's a judgment call. Just be careful, and if you think something might be a spoiler, then take it to a spoiler thread.

You can even export a quote (whatever you're commenting on) to another thread very easily, even from a cell phone (though I have no idea whether this would work on Tapatalk). Just click the MultiQuote button on the post you want to quote, then (on the same tab) go to the spoiler thread and click the "Reply to n quoted post(s)" button that's popped up near the bottom of the screen. The quote will appear in the reply box at the bottom of the page.

Whaaaaaat did I just listen to?

My volume was low so at first I thought I was hearing a mosquito, lol.

My volume was low too, but I *think* it was a group of tone-deaf people "singing" the Game Is On theme.

I'd call that an apt description.

Reminds me of a Viggo Mortensen song recorded by several fans - each one for her/himself and mixed together in some very adventurous way. Sounded a bit similar. :D

Hey Guys, I'm a third year uni student and I'm doing a project based around Benedict Cumberbatch. I made a quick multiple choice survey with 10 questions and it will mean a lot if I can get a few of you just to take a couple minutes to reply. Please help a fellow student out trying to get a degree  :D . Thanks for reading!

Here's the link if you could spare a couple minutes. Also I am open to anyone who wants to talk further about the Sherlock Fandom, Thanks Again!!

Hello Mini! Answered as best I could, good luck with your project!

Just tried to read that, but felt like I was about to develop epilepsy, due to all the moving, flashing, flickering displays.  What I did read didn't seem to hold together particularly well.  But "The Lost Special" is for real.  Weird how that title seems like a custom fit for TJLC buffs.
