Don’t you just love computers?

You have a glitch.

You try to fix it. For hours.

You don’t reset your comp only because your backup drive is in your office.

You give up and go to sleep.

Only to see the next morning that the glitch has gone by itself.

Hey, that's why they call it a glitch!

Just be glad that you don't have a job fixing computers. When I was a software engineer, I'd be sent out to diagnose (and possibly fix) customers' problems. But of course the minute I walked in the door, the computer would work perfectly. It just wanted its Mommy!

MUCH easier to fix a hard failure.

Shoe fairy?

But that is good, isn't it?

At least the problem is gone.

Last night, after changing light bulb, I fell from the bloody folding stair that gave way (I swear I had the secure lock engaged, after all it was okay at the beginning), luckily I used my hand to deal with the impact so my spine is fine. Had to get Xray to make sure nothing is fractured or dislocated, and this morning, that damn light had gone off again. I plan to throw something hard on that light but can't even tie my hair properly at the moment.

Ouch, that sounds painful, poor you :(. Glad that nothing is fractured, at least.

Posted

Thanks, painful because of swollen tendon on various spots but I'm okay. Skipped work because I can't lift my hand to the bike's handle but tomorrow should be fine.

I remember replying to Carol's post but somehow it's missing.

But of course the minute I walked in the door, the computer would work perfectly. It just wanted its Mommy!

This happens to me a lot but I am on the user side. I feel like an idiot when The computer suddenly works fine when the engineer comes. I swear there are problems before, but still somehow feel stupid and guilty from their questionable grins. :p

And oh, I know it's SOP, but I hate it when they ask,"Have you plugged it in?" or "have you tried to restart/switch on and off?" Worse, apparently I heard those really happens a lot. :D

Ouch! :( Here. :cookie: Better?

Hit the light with a broom! My brother, his wife and I were trying to figure out how to replace the bulb in the light over the stairs ... no way to get to it without scaffolding that we could see. I got a broom to brush the cobwebs off it, clonked it on the base by accident. Darn thing came on and has been working ever since.

Get well soon, VBS. We cannot live long without your witty presence.

I have a rant. Or a problem. Or an anecdote. Something to vent about. I present to you: The case of the hair clips.

I have long hair. Pretty long, comes down to my waist. At home, I wear it in a braid, but at work, I have to put it up because of hygiene and safety regulations. Usually, I do that by twisting it into a bun and securing it with several small plastic clips. They don't last for ever, though, and this morning I managed to break off so many little plastic teeth that nothing would hold. Being in a hurry, I was forced to just tie it back and scrunch it up any old way. It looked messy to begin with and running all the way to work did not exactly improve the result. Unfortunately, the boss of my current department decided to choose this day of all those in the year available to him to get worked up about staff appearance (specifically the appearance of staff on my level, which is fairly low on the local food chain). I think what set him off was another co-worker's absolutely miniscule nose piercing, but my hair certainly did not do anybody any favors (in spite of neither posing a hygienic nor a safety risk, but that wasn't his concern). Now, I only have to work for this guy for a few months as part of my training, so it makes very little sense for me to create a fuss (which I totally would if this clown was anyone I had to put up with for longer). The solution was clearly to just buy a new set of clips. So I left work just in time to get to the store today and of course - they were out of my brand. My only options were: 1.) An ugly brown set, the exact color of human excrement. I am not kidding. There is no other substance on this earth I could compare that color to. I am surprised those things don't smell. And 2.) A set made for little girls age 5 and under, pink, white and purple with little satin roses on them.

So here I am, ten p.m. at night, holding two packages of hair clips in my hands and seriously wondering which one to wear tomorrow and which one to return to the store. Personally, of course I would much prefer the pretty ones. I don't mind looking like a wannabe Disney princess, in fact, I think they are rather charming and I am a child at heart anyway. On the other hand, the whole issue was "looking unprofessional" and I am quite sure that hair accessories made for kindergarten kids are about as unprofessional as you can get. And I can't see the back of my own head anyway.

I am of course sorely tempted to not only wear the kiddie clips, but also get two nose piercings and a very visible tattoo that says "F*** you", but that wouldn't really get me anywhere I want to be (as for changing people's minds and broadening their horizons, I gave up on that long ago).

The sensible choice would be the brown ones. If only they weren't quite so disgusting looking. There is nothing else that will hold my hair up for longer than ten minutes, I have tried every product available.

Good god, I cannot believe I am actually wasting my time with this kind of nonsense.

Toby I feel your pain on long hair and holding it up.  Mine is slightly longer than my waist (close to 30 inches long now) and I have fun keeping it up as it is also somewhat thick and wavy.  I usually have it in a bun using a scrunchy (hair binder/tie with material around the elastic) as that holds my hair the best without getting caught in it.  I still have to redo the bun at least once during the day if I don't want the bun to completely fall out.

Now for my slight rant.  I'm sick of head colds that come in spring during allergy season especially when they wipe you out and you have cabin fever on top of it all.  Best to stay home and rest but I don't want to even though I did get a short nap in.

Put nail polish on the brown ones? Or spray paint? Glitter glue?

@T.O.B.Y: Hair net clip. No more broken plastic teeth and you even can modify the bow yourself. I use that kind of thing when working in a bank, quick and easy to place without twisting your hair into braid.

Sounds good, but what's a hair net clip?

Hey, those are kind of cute. Normally I can't stand anything in my hair, but I do usually put mine up in a ponytail on hot days. I wonder how one of those would look on me... hmm.....

They do look pretty. Haven't ever seen one in a store around here yet, but I'll see if I can order some online.

 In the end, this morning, I used the pretty clips. My work days are depressing enough at the moment, I felt I needed something cheerful on me. Got a lot of amused looks, but that was all, the big guy had a new topic of the day and didn't even seem to notice.

Do you guys also sometimes wonder what Sherlock would deduce about you if your paths happened to cross? I tend to think he would consider me too insignificant to waste brain power on, but if he were really bored...

I've also heard people call that a snood.  I think they're pretty.  Although I also am in favor of pink and purple flowered hair clips when the mood arises!

I tend to *pretend* I'm Sherlock if I'm in a really uncomfortable situation, so that I can think, "What is it like in your funny little minds?"

Rant of the day: I can't *think* today!  I guess I'm just going to have to hang it up and try again tomorrow, but I simply can't do the work that I'm supposed to be doing.

My sister emailed our dad today and wrote the email as if it were May 6 not June 1.  I asked her if she looked at a calendar and she said she looked at her computer.  No idea what she was actually looking at and she doesn't have the head cold like I do.  We both laughed.

As for Sherlock's thoughts on me assuming he gave me the time of day.  He might pick up on my cross dominance especially if I had a camera in use.  He would also say that I fill my head with all sorts of rubbish so that I can't get to the useful information.  We'd have fun and I'd likely end up in tears depending on the day.  INFP's can take things personally even if not intended that way & it's worse when pregnant.

Yes, I was just now thinking "mini-snood."  (I believe a regular snood is generally worn with the hair hanging down, rather than in a bun.)

Have I ever wondered what Sherlock would think about me? Hmmm. I don't think so. I think I would be so insignificant as to escape his attention, actually. Unless he got me mad enough to take him on; then I think he'd get a kick out of me. :p

What's really funny is I didn't even realize I made the pun until now. :d

Thanks guys, I am well and kicking. :)

And guess what, I gave the light a couple of knock and twist with a broom stick (with something attached at the end) and it went back on. Hurray...good advice. :D

As for hair clip. I always tie my hair in pony tail with basic rubber band, but saw mom and sister in laws wear this:

wwdwci.jpg,

It's simple way to make a bun.

My friend taught me to make a bun with rubber band as well, basically twirl the hair into a bun and tie it strategically.. it works! But I don't know how to show you all.

On what Sherlock would deduce of me. Maybe a lot, he should be able to deduce that I am not feminine at all and don't care with my appearance. Then he would catch me looking at him because I identify interesting and quiet people with certain gaze, which are normally the people I can connect with, at least have fun conversation with. Heck, I think he would know all my habits with one good look.

Sherlock will see in me a crazy fangirl, especially since I am stalking his brother!

@SD, OH..! Now I suspect you steal his plum(p) puddings all the time. He looks very lean.

And @Arcadia, your advice only worked for a day. Bad light, bad light, will give it a good whack this weekend.

Posted

I doubt it is because of me or the lack of plum puddings. It is the brolly I am interested on, I am itchy to know why he bring it almost everywhere.

In case it rains. :p
