What other TV shows do you watch?

Haiz, so I haven't mustered the will to continue with Altered Carbon from what you guys told me. Why do they ruin the story that way???? I don't think many people catch sci-fi wanting to see mindless nudity and relationship. I think I was at the end of ep 5 and really wish she dies! Bah

Anyone watches Westworld?

I find it not easy to follow but I almost always like Jonathan Nolan's work. His level of homework, details are always intriguing. Westworld, I don't love it, I have no attachment to the characters or storyline, but it's a quality pass time regardless.

I think Westworld is one I would watch if I had the means. I really rather enjoyed the movie.

I watched Westworld as it was released. The second season is a bit more confusing. Now I'm waiting for the third.

Apart of that - I binged ALL of LOST recently. It makes more sense if watched in one piece. :D

The first season is perfect. The second is weaker and it decreases with each further season. When it come to time travel it falls apart totally. The end feels like a coup de grace. I also realised that I remembered quite a lot from the S1 and S2, but hardly the rest of it.

The conclusion: The explanation shouldn't be more mysterious than the mystery it tries to explain.

Still the damn "monster" scared the beep out of me. Probably the best sound effects in the history of cinema.

Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Boo-kayy) Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. It's been more than 20 years since this last aired but it holds up surprisingly well.

I've never heard of that show, but are you implying that it's a bit like Absolutely Fabulous?  (I never saw that show either, but my mother loved it -- I'm guessing it was on PBS here.)  Anyhow, could you tell us a bit about Hetty's show?

Hetty Wainthropp Investigates is the show Patricia Routledge did after Keeping Up Appearances. In it Routledge plays newly oap Hetty Wainthropp. She takes a job at the post office where she stumbles upon a murder. She then sets herself up as a detective and solves the murder and a few other small mysteries as well. A very young Dominic Monaghan is recruited to be her assistant. It's a fairly charming mystery series.

It has no resemblance to Ab-Fab whatsoever.

Oops, sorry -- I've apparently confused two different shows that Mom told me about.  Thanks for the explanation!

Couldn't agree more with all of that.

I enjoyed the few episodes I managed to catch. Charming is a good description.

It's one of the better ones out there. I'd recommend it, but it could get pretty confusing sometimes.

But the score! It's almost worth it for the scores alone. Well I have been a fan of the composer since Person of Interest, before he works of mega popular project like Game of Thrones.

First three episodes of season 3 are out already, and I'm very happy with those so far. Again, the scores!

Season two is confusing, yes, because of the jumping time frame, flashback and all, my favorite episode was Kiksuya, it's very well written with a lot of heart that explains a lot of time line.

Season three, so far, to my understanding, is still on linear timeline, but I could be fooled.

I saw Independence Day: Resurgence in the theater, which I actually quite liked — until they got to the part where they figured out that all they had to do to stop the alien invasion was kill the alien queen.  Of course!  Millions of aliens will be rendered entirely helpless if only you can kill that one!  I am soooooo sick of the alien hive queen trope as a means to defeat them.  I probably ranted about it a good long while, lol.

Then a couple days ago, I rented “The Great Wall”.  They started discussing how to defeat the aliens, and I was thinking to myself, “Please not a hive queen, please not a hive queen...”  But of course... hive queen.  I am begging you, filmmakers: please, please, THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE.  And not “something natural on our planet is lethal to them” either, because that has also been done to death.

^ I've been watching Epix's "War of the Worlds" reboot show, and it looks like they're going to go in the "hive mind" direction.

So annoying...

One show where that utterly amazed (and annoyed) me was Next Generation Trek.  We've been rewatching on DVD, and I had forgotten that in one of the earliest Borg episodes, they showed baby Borg beings.  Later one, they seemed to drop that idea, and implied that the Borg members had all been assimilated from other cultures, and were being controlled by electronic signals.  Until the movie with that ridiculous Borg Queen.  Gahhh!

Boy, I'm glad I don't remember any of that. :D

I watched Red Dwarf: The Promised Land last night. If you are at all familiar with the show you will know that the crew is a rather scruffy lot that bumble their way through life. It was thoroughly enjoyable and a lot of fun that will bear many viewings. Even if you've never seen Red Dwarf before you could watch this special without needing to rely on its past.

Sherlock fans will certainly know about Coupling.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it...

I think I've heard of it, but that's about all.  Not sure it was ever on American television.  *off to check*  Yes, it was on American TV -- two different versions of it, in fact.  The original BBC version (a semi-autobiographical comedy series written by Steven Moffat), ran on BBC America (a cable station, so I couldn't have seen it).  An American remake ran on NBC, but for only four episodes before they pulled the plug.  Here's the whole sad story.

From the quick look it's absolutely not my kind of show.

Because the humor is Moffatish?  I watched that entire episode and laughed out loud several times.  Probably would not buy the DVDs, but if I came across an episode being broadcast, I'd watch it.

What puzzles me is that even though the character Steve is supposed to be based on Mr. Moffat, the character Jeff looks and sounds a lot more like him.

Gilmore Girls

The promised Neverland

I started Riverdale and hated it

Could you give us some idea of what you didn't like about it?  What did you think of the other four shows?

I mentioned the other four, because they are some of my favourites!

I didn't like Riverdale, because it came across to me as cringy, trying too hard and cliche. Plus, there was of lot of objectifying women, which I hate...

I just looked up Riverdale and see that it's a cable show (which explains why I hadn't heard about it before), and yes, it's based on the Archie comics.  Judging by that Wikipedia article plus what you said, they're trying so hard to be relevant, edgy, politically correct, etc., that they missed entirely.

The Archie comic books have been around roughly forever, and unless they've changed since the last time I took a peek, they were never intended to be the least bit deep, just cute and funny.  Some things should be left as they are.

Added:  I just looked up the Archie comic books, and see that they were updated/rebooted in 2015, right about the same time that the TV series was being planned.  I don't know whether to say how dare they or it's about time!
