Okay, so, if you interpret the scene this way, then it's really interesting how John and Sherlock react to Sholto's behavior, because it seems they've both done some thinking. John does not stand there helplessly stuttering fragments of sentences and basically just watching the whole thing unfold like a deer in the headlights, he resolutely argues against Sholto and threatens to break down the door, which lets me hope that the next time Sherlock tries to pull this kind of stunt, he'll step in as well. And Sherlock, even though he sympathizes with Sholto and basically agrees that yes, when your time comes, you should go to meet your fate bravely, "like a soldier", interferes, because he has finally understood that the time had better not come right in the presence of John, that John would be actually hurt by the loss, and that the danger he puts himself in to help is maybe the lesser evil in this case.

So, we have an explanation and an apology right there for the taking if we want it, and I do, and I'll have it and hold on to it until the show ruins it or offers me something better.

That was .... amazing. Brilliant. Perfection. Can I be your Watson? :D

Okay, y'all crack me up having all these expectations. The writers have told us that whatever happens will be unexpected, shocking & I believe the word horrifying was used at some point. This is my advise everyone, go in with an empty head. All we need to know is what's been told us.

Well, heck, where's the fun in that? :D

I don't think of it as expectation, I think of it as speculation! Right now I'm speculating that every speculation I've speculated will spectacularly miss the mark.

Hey, I'd like to be watching Series 4 right now (um, not really, that would mean I'd missed Christmas special!), but that's not an option.  So we find other ways to amuse ourselves in the meanwhile.  Lots and lots of meanwhile....

I suppose the Christmas episode would amount to Season Three and a half. We need Season Three and one quarter....or maybe two quarters?

I hope they do the Christmas Special a lot like TSO3. lots of flashback, some cuteness, and lots of story line. Maybe instead of Sherlock being the narrator. Let it be Mycroft or Mrs. Hudson or John.

Actually, I suspect it'll be treated like "Many Happy Returns," which is to say, it'll be a Series 4 prequel.  I assume we'll be naming its thread "Episode 4.0."  But I'm in full agreement with your sentiment!

Oh, I like that idea, and I vote for Mrs. Hudson.  She'd be the perfect point of view for a Christmas episode, partly because she's such a warm person (and Christmas should be cozy), and partly because she'd presumably be somewhat out of the loop regarding what Sherlock and John are actually up to, and so would interpret it in her own way, which would of course be quite believable but also quite wrong (and therefore quite funny).

I can just imagine what it would be like if Mycroft was to narrate a Christmas story. Very short....far from sweet and heavy on the snarky.

I'm such a hypocite, I've joined in on the speculation.

See!?!?!? See?!?!?! It's a contagion!!!

Now... I think my vote is for Mycroft narration.

*mycroft voice* 'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house... Christmas is disgusting. The people. Ugh."

Interesting that he says he will always be there, and the creator of this video juxtaposed that with his leaving them.  Very interesting idea.

According to the comments on that YouTube page, even deep-closet Johnlockers absolutely adore that video.  Guess that settles it then -- I must be immune (though I love their friendship).

Loved the Mary video, though.  I took the lyrics to be John's words to Mary -- really heartbreaking!

I know what you mean ... I was pretty open to the "Johnlock" possibility in the first two seasons, but with a couple of exceptions it seemed to me S3 pretty much slammed the door on that idea ... imagine my surprise when more people than ever insisted it's real! I guess I'm dense. No, wait, strike that -- I know I'm dense. I seldom see romantic or sexual attraction where other people do, I just don't have the radar, apparently.

I remember at a workplace event once I ended up standing in line with, then sitting next to, a co-worker. Naturally we chatted. The next day it was all over the building that we were romantically involved. The thought had never entered either of our heads but everyone else was so certain it must be true... (and they were sooooo disappointed when it wasn't! I almost felt bad about contradicting them.)

It's interesting to me how closely associated that song seems to have become with Sherlock. Once again I appear to be out of step; if S3 indicated anything, surely it was that these people are not giving up on each other!

(I probably shouldn't say this, but part of the problem may be ... I think that song is a major snorefest.... )

They call it 'The Johnlock Conspiracy', or TJLC for short, wherein the basic logic is Sherlock and John have always meant to be together. Always. From the original ACD to the black-and-white silent movies to color TV to the present. Always.

From what I've seen, they're all geared up and ready to party when S4 comes, because they think they'll finally get the chance to scream I TOLD YOU SO!! when Sherlock and John finally kiss.
