I wish I could say the same, but I found a spider in my tub the other day despite the sub-freezing temps outside. Thankfully it was of the kind that I was able to take care of it without freaking out.

Huh. That's one of my favorite things about winter; no bugs in the house. Wonder what the difference is. Maybe your bugs are hardier than ours?

We do, however, tend to get mice moving in. I tend not to mind them as much, because they're cute and furry. But in some ways it's worse, because if we get too many, it's a health hazard and then I have to kill them and I hate hate hate having to do that! Fortunately this year they seem to have decided to move somewhere else. Maybe that expensive new roof is doing its job. Hope it stays that way. Poor little things, hope they're not too cold out there.....

I’ve had a higher than normal number of both bugs and mice to contend with this winter. I’ve killed 3 spiders just in the last 3 days. I think they usually move in during the fall and hide out in the basement somewhere, and now and then make their way upstairs during the winter.

Took my tree down last week, all decorations here are long gone. Aren't they meant to come down by the 6th?

Why 6th? Is it because it's Sherlock's birthday (?) :p

It's not very uncommon for schools or institutions to have late Christmas party here. Earlier this week I heard Christmas songs from an event nearby my workplace, very unlikely area though.

Anyway, I actually put it up early and leave it until now because my mom loves it. She is not a Christian, well, none of us really are XD. It's rare occasion that she got to spend Christmas and New Year with us and Dad. It was a 'party' eventhough it's just barbequing from super mini grill, couple of beers and watching fireworks from upstair of the house. She likes the ambience of Christmas tree and so do I. And now, the main reason is lazyness, eventhough it's a tiny tree and basically all I need to do is putting the decorations (they are fabrics) in ziplock and tree in the box), but then I would feel the need to clear the space, rearrange, clear the storing area, rearrange, blah blah..

You might just throw a white sheet over it and pretend it's a resident ghost.

Do you need to cut two holes for its eyes?

And oh OH! If we throw a scarf could it be resident Sherlock?

Wait a minute.. he didn't wear a scarf there! Consider it done then.

January 6 is Epiphany or the Day of the Magi visiting the Christ Child in Bethlehem (aka the 12th day of Christmas).

I think Minnesotan creepy crawlers sneak in during the summer then hang out till death or spring. Rodents make their own holes especially out in the country.

That too, lol. My supposition was only based on a trend I’ve noticed where I seem to see a surge in the number of spiders crawling around the house in the fall, as it starts to get colder outside. I see more inside the house in fall than any other time of the year, actually. Mice too.

I'm lucky I don't have mice here, but 3 miles away at my parents' place, the mice try to sneak in from somewhere.

Maybe your part of MN has the fall spiders and mine has the summer spiders.

Lol! Summer or fall, I wish they’d stay out of my house!

I almost never had mice in my previous residences, but lots of them here. I suspect it may be because I’m closer to water here, but I don’t know. That’s the only difference I can see. Or maybe the only difference is that there’s a crack in the foundation somewhere that they’re squeezing through.

Where I grew up, everyone got mice in their homes, which is why there were about as many cats and terriers in the neighborhood as people.

After our cat died, we tried different non-lethal methods of keeping them away and were finally successful with one of those sonic thingies. Well, moderately successful.

British House Spiders live in houses year round, but you only actually see them at certain times of the year (what I call spider season). Apparently the ones that come out are the male spiders who are on the hunt for a sexy laydee spider. Lads about town.

I don't know if I mentioned this before - I don't really do baths, showers are quicker and easier. Last time I had a bath was about a year ago, and I submerged myself right up to the corners of my eyes, so just my face was sticking out. I saw something dark float past out of the corner of my eye, but ignored it, only to discover when I sat up that I was in fact sharing the bath with a big house spider. :o

Where I live there are indoor spiders year-round too, but I see more or less or them walking about at different times of the year.

Ewwwww!  I had a similar experience as a kid when I was swimming in a lake, only it was a pile of human poop floating towards me.

Spiders are always dropping on me or crawling on me, or I'll turn around and there's one hanging right in front of my face.  If they would just stay in their little corners, I wouldn't mind them sharing my abode.

Eurgh. Was it like this?

Just about, lol.  Once I spotted it I tried to swim away, but it just kept following me.  It was like a shark fin in the water coming towards you; you swim away from it and then it disappears, and you're spinning all around looking for it, and just when you think it's gone, there it is again, suddenly right next to you.

Interesting. The height of our spider season is summer, when it's humid. The more humid, the more spiders. Ugh. Now there's an awful combination.

Lol, right next to you, going "Cooooey!"

We have a spider season in spring and one in autumn. I'm glad we don't have the beasties they get in other countries but house spiders can get to hand sized (my hand, not a man's hand). What are the biggest spiders where you guys are?

I'm looking at hotel prices atm, trying to decide whether to go away for a few days or not, and a lot of the hotels say '1.1 miles to stadium, or 1 mile to city centre etc' and then there's one that says '4 miles to city gaol.' WTF?! The local gaol is hardly a tourist attraction!

Here too, I think.  I've walked outside in summer and seen fields just covered in webs.

The biggest spider I've ever seen here was about 3 inches (8-ish cm) in diameter, legs included.  But that was uncommonly big.  Most of our spiders are quite small, like 1 or maybe 2 cm.  Might be the cold, but I'm not sure.

I found a wasp in my house yesterday, on one of the coldest days of the year with several inches of snow outside! Have no idea where he came from but he was on the floor moving very sluggishly (is that a word). I'm terrified of wasps but I took care of him very quickly, of course he didn't put up much of a fight lol

I remember reading about abandoned park full of spider web found by Pokemon Go player. Let me see if I could dig it..

There.

I think it's hauntingly beautiful though.

I live in rat infested house during my childhood. It's basically everyone's problem. Don't remember being disgusted by it, in fact I helped two rats from drowning from toilet and our water reserve. However, now I can't stand the though of sharing living space. If I spot them, they would die. Luckily (or not) they are mice instead of rats. I hardly spot any droppings but I do know when they are around because they would move something and I know what moves! Like Artemis said, if they stay in corner and their space, MAYBE I wouldn't mind and even supply them something to eat. Maybe.

The thought of them running around all over the table and biting foods are disgusting. I think I had changed a lot of my stance since the rat story I told in other thread sometime ago. Now I even have everything kept in cupboard and container, including enclosed drying racks and spice container.

KimberBada, careful with wasp though. I have encountered many harmless ones but my friend was stung once and his leg was swollen so badly it had to be operated, they took out puss equivalent to a big chicken egg. Yikes.

Is this Bowie? He looks like the fabulous hobbit that everyone in The Shire rolls their eyes at.

Yikes. And we complain about gypsy moths! We've got it easy compared to that!
