And he sneaked away from the bed.

And the shooter shot not to kill.

ETA: and collapsed in the corridor...

and now he is kind of lost in his MP

Was it actually called a "Mind Palace" in House, though?  And did The Mentalist's explanation go beyond the basic mnemonic technique?  The idea is has been out there for a while.  HOWEVER, the concept as presented on Sherlock has already diverged from the real-world concept explained on "Hounds."  So if anyone uses the term in reference to general imagination, they're apparently borrowing it from Sherlock or some previous variation.

Now I'm trying to remember -- have any of the characters actually used the term Mind Palace since "Hounds"?  Maybe the expansion of the concept is another fannish thing (like calling the hospital "St. Bart's" even though it's always just "Bart's" on the show).  Checking Ariane DeVere's transcripts via Google -- like so:

site:arianedevere.livejournal.com "mind palace"

... there are only a few subsequent references in actual dialog:

one from "Last Vow":

MOLLY: It’s all well and clever having a Mind Palace, but you’ve only three seconds of consciousness left to use it. So, come on – what’s going to kill you?

... and three more from "Abominable Bride":

SHERLOCK: I’ve been in my Mind Palace, of course ... running an experiment: how would I have solved the crime if I’d been there in 1895?

... followed shortly by:

JOHN: No, he can do this. I’ve seen it – the Mind Palace. It’s like a whole world in his head.

SHERLOCK: Yes, and I need to get back there.

MYCROFT: The Mind Palace is a memory technique. I know what it can do; and I know what it most certainly cannot.

SHERLOCK: Maybe there are one or two things that I know that you don’t.

Note that Mycroft seems to be referring to the original concept, while Sherlock is using his expanded definition.

John yells at Sherlock to use his mind palace in TEH, too (when they think the bomb's going to explode) ... and at that point, I would say it's represented as "just" a memory technique.

Actually, I think it was just that in HLV, too, just shown in a very creative way; not meant to be taken entirely literally.

I don't know what to make of TAB, though, they seemed to take it to a whole new level there ... assuming Sherlock wasn't lying about being in his mind palace.

Right, John did say that.  Odd that Google didn't pick up on it -- though when I change the search object to "use your mind palace," it does find it.  So it may have missed some other references as well.

Good point about HLV -- Molly and Anderson could easily be just Sherlock's memories personified.  Maybe TAB is the next step in that progression (whatever that may mean) -- which is what Sherlock meant by his remark to Mycroft, above.

Of the two brothers, Sherlock does strike me as being the more imaginative and creative one, in spite of his insistence on logic and facts. So maybe he just keeps embellishing his mind palace? You know, why stop with storing memories when you could have a whole wing for inventing roleplaying games.... :d

I don't think he was lying. But it was his mind palace on drugs, remember. So of course it was going to be a bit wilder a place.

Oh, I don't think he was lying either, I was being a bit facetious.

"This is your mind palace on drugs." Let's just hope Sherlock wasn't so fascinated by the results that he keeps going back there.

CAM had a typical MP.

Maybe Mycroft too - if he needs such an aid. At least he thinks what Sherlock's MP is too.

But Sherlock's place reminds me (so far) of a mix of different techniques, mostly of the so called Silva Method.

Silva experimented with hypnosis, but while hypnosis made the mind more receptive, he felt that more individual control was necessary for improving brain function. He experimented next with mental training exercises to quiet the brain yet keep it more independently alert than in hypnosis. This, he reasoned, would lead to improved memory combined with understanding and hence to higher I.Q. scores.

The exercises from which Silva's techniques evolved called for relaxed concentration and vivid mental visualization and ways of reaching lower levels.

Other would be a shaman trance "journey", which is what TAB was (kind of) - and drugs are usually a part of it.

Aren't we in a wrong thread? theusa_shifty.gif

Hey, Jessie, if you happen to look in today, happy birthday!  Hope to see you around again.

I'm currently watching Hobbit 1 waiting to leave to pick up family at the train station when I see a commercial for The Night Manager (Hiddleston & Laurie).  It will be on in the US on AMC starting on Tuesday I think it was.  It looks interesting even though I won't be able to catch it.

However, dog attracts people too.

I don't really mind actually, understand that because I also hope to pet all dogs. But there are some who think they have the absolute right to approach dog with invading ways and try to pet you too.

P.S. I blame my dog for embarassing things I have done, especially when no one is around. :P

I think that's belongs to the same category with what people often commented with, "Social Darwinism at its best" on par with jumping into a tiger enclosure at the zoo.

A friend in Canada also found the mini furball. Lucky she knows better than trying to touch unknown animals.

Aha, I knew I'd seen it somewhere before! It's Donald Trump's hair!
