This is a photoshopped pic. The next step will be to print it out (when I find a while at work) and hang on my door and see how it looks like when the door has NO glass.

Of course a translucent film for a door with glass would be really cool, but who wants to make a hole in their door for Sherlock?

Anyway I at least got the image to the printable size in acceptable quality. :D

PS: anybody know how long Ben's hand (palm) is?

Oh, sorry -- that's not what I meant!  They make things called "window film" that adhere by static to the glass in your window (or door), usually in order to make it look frosted (for privacy).  I have no idea what it would take to have them made with Sherlock's shadow on them, but they would presumably be very popular!

I don't make hole in the door for Sherlock Holmes.

Of course that was more or less Mark's comment on the commentary: Benedict's family...who seem to have strangely adopted me!

I would adopt Mark right away. :D

...which gives me a reason to post my favorite signed photo from the Con.

Back to the door: well, it doesn't work that well in RL. Maybe I should make the picture a bit brighter. The quality of the print is also not that good, but one cannot expect wonders blowing up a picture which was originally only few inches big. :(

It comes across well in that photo, though.  The only problem I see is that Sherlock would have to be crouching a bit, so maybe the effect would be improved if the photo were slightly smaller.

As for the quality of the print, nothing looks real clear through glass like that anyhow, so maybe you could camouflage the poor resolution by intentionally adding a "frosted glass" effect, and/or a slight overall pattern, like this or this.  I assume that Photoshop-type software would generally include at least a "frosted" option.

Yep, today I also thought of a pattern.

The size of the picture is estimated after the size of the hand, that actually touches the glass, therefore it is not distorted. The silouette is a shadow thrown by a window that's over the entrance door, that's why the head is below the level we expect:

Upper line is the real head, the lower the head shadow:

Hmm, interesting point.  I'm not sure, though, whether we're seeing a shadow or a muted direct image.  The camera angle is low in that shot, so we'd see over Sherlock's head a good bit.

Maybe you should let them know we need a shot like that but from a standing-up camera angle!

The cinematographers?  Moftiss?  They're bound to jump right on it!  ;)

Or maybe you could adjust it a bit more yourself.  You've already selected a lower portion of the image, to make it look more natural to a viewer who's not down on the floor.  Come to think of it, the very best adjustment would depend on whether the viewer is sitting or standing.  Maybe what you have now is good for a sitting-down point of view.

Actually it would change nothing because what you see is not an actual image of Sherlock standing a step from the door, but a shadow of him thrown on the frosted glass. Which wouldn't change no matter where the viewer is. But I think, just positioning the whole image a bit higher in the frame could make it look a bit better.

I doubt anyone can provide better picture. Plus they won't, as it is copyrighted. Plus I am always ignored by higher powers.

That's why the higher powers gave us creativity! ;)

Yeah, I know.

Are you sure it's just a shadow, though?  There could well be a shadow, but wouldn't we (also?) be able to see Sherlock directly, just not real clearly?

Something wrong with the proportion I guess.. from that proportion he looks like he has very very short leg. Maybe you have to shrink it down by 20-30%?

And..hey..hey..! That is not Baker Street 221C door!?!!!!

You didn't rent it, it's a decoy, it's still up for grab..?!!

But yes, it is my NEW 221c door. I need to know who's coming. With those other tenants you never know who might turn up at your doorstep. big-grin.gif

Well the proportion thing is not my fault.

If the glass were at least a bit translucent, we would see silhouette of his head at the level you can see it in the open door. That's why think it is only the shadow - a bit distorted and not where we expect it to be.

Another try. Picture is a bit brighter and hanged (hung?) higher and shot from another perspective.

Well, it still doesn't work that well, but it was worth a try. :)

Maybe you need a taller door? :p

I don't know, JP, from here it looks pretty darn awesome.
