Just saw the following BC quote on Tumblr:

"The older I get the more I think success is being content with yourself and being happy with what you've got rather than wanting what you don't need."

It's attributed to some Flaunt Magazine video?  But no direct link was provided.

More on James Rhodes:

Ben Speaking about the trial

A lovely video of Ben and James talking about music.

BTW, here Ben is somehow halfway to being Sherlock - is it me or even his voice sounds more sherlock-y?

And here an older interview James made with Ben.

There are so many beautiful and interesting things and people in the world... sigh...

Quote from that Telegraph article:

Five Justices, including the President, Lord Neuberger, quashed a temporary ban on publishing parts of the book which had been secured by his ex-wife who feared that the graphic detail could cause psychological harm to their young son.

Seems to me there are a whole lot of books that I wouldn't want a young child of mine to read -- but I wouldn't expect the Supreme Court to do my job for me!

Good grief, I thought he'd figured that out ages ago. :P

Thanks for that, I'd heard about it but never followed the story ... good grief, it's hard for me to imagine why this even went to court in the first place. Glad they made the decision they did.

He does, a little. But apparently (see hair) this was around the time of filming one of the seasons, so maybe that's why.

Amen to that. Those videos were fantastic, I don't know how I missed seeing them before. I'd love more stuff like that and less of the "tell us about your new movie, Ben."

I also finally found time to listen to My Dear Bessie, omg that was wonderful. (Just in time, too, apparently it "expired" today. :( ) I wish my mom weren't so hard of hearing, I think she'd love to listen to that kind of thing. (She and my Dad met during WW2.) Has anyone had any experience with various devices meant to aid in hearing audio? I don't mean hearing aids (she can't wear them) but ... well, there was a hand-held device at one of the hospitals she was in that she didn't mind using, for example. Anybody know anything about stuff like that that actually works, that the general public can get hold of?

Anyway, thanks for sharing all that, JP, you just made my day!

Added by Carol the Dabbler:  For the ensuing discussion of audio-enhancement devices, see the "Help with hearing the television" thread, which I have split off from this one.

You're welcome

Dear Bessie was great. And a great story. There is also a book about it.

As for hearing aid - a normal earphones might be just fine. You just have to make the source louder.

Re: The music video - I have seen it a while ago. It might be the first (and not last) time that I thought: "damn, that Cumberbatch guy can lead an interesting discussion about everything."

Dear Bessie expired?  What?  Where?  I missed it?   :(

ETA:  Well yes, I apparently did.  Hopefully I'll be able to catch it at some point.  Can we listen to stuff on BBC's site here in the States?  I'm guessing we can if others of you listened to it?  I did not know that since it seems like stuff always gets blocked internationally.

According to the website I only had 4 hours left to listen to it this morning.... (sorry, can't find the dang website) ... and an article about it (which I also can't find) said it expired today. But there may be (ahem) unofficialcopiessomewhereyoudidn'thearthatfromme...)

Sorry, this is actually a rather unhelpful response, isn't it?

I found this:

https://www.nowness.com/story/letters-live-benedict-cumberbatch

But it's only one reading from BC (about 4.5 minutes) and one from Loo (about 4 min.).   Were there more, though?  Or is that the full thing?

The full thing is 45 minutes, with a narrator supplying missing connections between some of the letters.

You're not an idiot unless the term is being applied by Sherlock. Also I find the BBC Radio can be played in the states without issues. If you go to BBC's site there is a link somewhere for the radio stations.

I'm pretty sure Sherlock would think we're all idiots ... after all, almost everyone is. :p

Oh yes, he would, but on the other hand I would like him to observe me at work as opposed to home and then come away with a sigh: "I always miss something!"

BC's bit for Red Nose Day (blink and you'll miss it.) Start at around 1 minute for cute bits with Sir Ian McK, Eddie Redmayne, etc.

BC appeared to get a big laugh and applause line, but darned if I can figure out what the joke is....might have been something happening in the auditorium?

I think it has something to do with "Mr. Can't Function in 140 Characters" being at a loss for words in writing the cue card.  When is Sherlock at a loss for words, let alone Benedict?  The red nose on his finger tip tapping his neck helped some as well I'm sure.  :)

By George, I think you've got it! Or maybe it's that he is having trouble with the cue cards because he can't think in 140 characters or less? Cute, either way!
