You know your "Sherlock" obsession is bad when...

Recommended Posts

I agree with wanting longer versions of at least some of the songs.  For me one of them would be the Waltz for John and Mary. And definitely a *whimper* for the same one as you Carol.

Having stood on that spot makes it even sadder, somehow.  (Not that it needed to be any sadder.)

I agree, the Waltz is just lovely, both the music and the scene.  Alex is forbidden to talk while that track is playing, so I can go into my little Sherlock world and watch a mental rerun.

My favorite tracks are the music that plays at the pre-opening scene in TEH and the dubstep-y stuff that plays during the disastrous stag night in TSoT

When, after 11 years of ballroom dance training costing an embarrassing amount of money, your husband comes into your office while you are listening to "Waltz for John and Mary" while you work, and the two of you proceed to drop everything to do a basic waltz box step in the tiny amount of free space.  It turns out to be the best, most magical set of waltz boxes you've ever done.

That is so sweet (and totally cool).  I've done variations on that before when listening to music, occasionally dancing but usually conducting if I really like the piece.

I know I'm Sherlocked when all of my friends are tired of listening to me bring it up, and my husband too.  That's why I'm here.  You're like my support group or something.  Heh.  I've made it my personal mission to pretty much ask everyone I know if they've seen it, and if not insist they watch it.   Miss Popularity over here!  :)

This has been a motivation for many of us to google for a Sherlock forum - our friends and family rolling their eyes  when the series is mentioned instead of contributing to the fact-finding mission to, say, determine whether Mary was originally American or Russian. :sherlock:

When you open up a new MS word document with the intention of writing a nice Doctor Who fanfic, and then you accidentally write a Sherlock thing instead.

You should be going to bed (30 minutes ago) because you are getting up in 6.5 hours for a long day of homecoming festivities at the university you went to but are on here catching up, adding thoughts, & trying to figure out the hangman quote.

Even having a husband who's actually a big Sherlock fan (and a member of this forum) doesn't necessarily help, not if you're the type of person who enjoys trying to make sense of every little detail.  (I do that with oddities in real life as well, and he doesn't see the point then either.)

Oh, yeah, this is my "Sherlock addiction support group" as well... I can't even mention Sherlock around my husband without him rolling is eyes, and I do intend to keep this marriage going, so god bless this little place on the WWW...

Has anyone ever tried doing the Sherlock thing? You know, the deductions and logical reasoning? And did it work? (I can't really do it, my brain's too illogical and nutty to work like that. )

You mention that you could be either Sherlock or Mycroft to your mother & the barista asks if you have seen the BBC version to which you tell her about the new special edition with out takes and where to get it online.

For me it started with The Hobbit movies. I kind of fell in love with Freeman's acting and wanted to see something else with him in it so that's how I found out about Sherlock. Though I think I saw Love Actualy long before The Hobbit but I didn't remember Freeman in it.

Funny thing is that the first time I heard about Benedict was when I was reading a czech forum about The Hobbit movies and someone was very excited about an actor who would be doing the voice of Smaug. Don't know why but when I saw his name I thought he would be about the same age as Ian McKellen :D

my situation precisely.

first I came across this guy playing the hobbit one of my friends kept blabbing about, cause he was in this series callled sherlock she and everyone else apparently, watched and loved so much and I hadn't seen yet..  ;)

same here and size of purse wouldn't matter.  I've seen moms with small purses and single women, no kids with large ones.  Then there's me, I own 2 purses and only use them on the rare occasion I'm wearing a dress/skirt with no pockets for my men's tri-fold wallet (yes I'm a tomboy to a degree).

I don't mean to brag, but there were two instances where I tried the Sherlock thing and I was right...ish. Mind you, that's 2 out of 1987256398576395876 attempts, so don't come running to me to see if someone likes you or not! :P

Yeah, mine too! The problems with deductions in real life is actually that usually a clue - like the creases in John's shirt, or the flour on Mrs Hudson's dress, or the waterproof cover on that man's smartphone - can point to many, many different things; the possibilities are a lot more endless than Sherlock makes them seem. For him, there is always exactly one explanation for a phenomenon, and it's always the right one. The Sherlock world works in slightly different ways from ours... which is why, after all, it is a pretty fantastical (and fantastic) one.

I do notice things about people, when I am awake and alert not daydreaming (so rarely, actually), but I usually stop at the noticing. For example, I like to look at what the person in front of me at the supermarket is buying and try to conjecture, based on that, whether he / she lives alone, has kids, has a pet, etc. But then I see someone buying dog food, and think, wait - maybe he's just being kind and doing an errand for the old lady next door who has a furry companion! Or maybe he helps out at an animal shelter! Or... On the other hand, if someone asked me to buy them cigarettes, I'd be terribly afraid of people assuming I myself smoke.

You had something to post to this thread like 10 hrs ago but never got it posted because you were distracted by other Sherlock related stuff & you can't remember what the idea was. *mentally goes around screaming like Kevin in Home Alone at herself*

When you don't go to bed at a reasonable hour like a sane person, even though you have to get up early for work in the AM, because "I'm just gonna check the forum one more time.  Just real quick."

Or when you pop open your laptop first thing when you wake up for the same reason.
