After thinking about it for a few hours, I like Donovan and Anderson both.  I would like to see how both of their story arcs play out and their further interactions with Sherlock.  Since TRF we haven't seen Donovan interact with Sherlock.  Is he still a freak to her or something else?  I would also like to see what Anderson ends up doing now that Sherlock is back & HLV is passed.

We don't see her interact with SH after TRF, but we see her in the beginning of TSOT, and we see her react to Lestrade when his phone keeps ringing, because she knows it's SH.  And she's still a little annoyed that it's him and that Lestrade jumps to Sherlock's call.

True but direct interaction would be fun as well.

Minor point -- Sally doesn't just call him "a freak" or even "the freak" -- she calls him "Freak," as though that's his name.  Dunno whether that's better or worse!

Gah, I think it's worse.  Like, she doesn't even have enough respect for him as a human being, even one she doesn't like, to make even the marginal linguistic attempt to distance her insult from him in front of his face.  He's just Freak.

At least Sally is honest. She doesn't pretend to like or admire Sherlock and then bitch about him behind his back. And the way she treats him is actually no worse than the way he treats other people whom he regards with contempt.

It would be interesting to see them interact now.

They're bound to cross paths again eventually, one would think.  Looking forward to it!

When you open up Outlook on your computer and you read Microsoft as Mycroft.   I think I prefer Mycroft to Microsoft so I would consider it an unintentional insult to Mycroft.  *apologizes to Mycroft profusely so as not to get sent away on some crazy MI6 case of certain death (even though I'm an American not a Brit)*

You know your Sherlock obsession is bad when you remember a photoshopped image to fit every occassion.

OK, only you guys will appreciate this:

You know your Sherlock obsession is bad when you take a much-needed and well-deserved "met deadline" nap, and you dream you are reading Sherlock fanfiction.  About John at Christmas.  Dancing the Nutcracker.

The first line of the fanfic is, "John was the dance."

You wake yourself up laughing before you can find out if he was dancing the part of Clara or not.

I think it's worse when you have a weird dream about your dad being hunted down by the Italian mafia, and when you wake up the first thing you think is "How can I turn this into a Sherlock fanfic?"

... when you wonder about things like "what is John's room being used for now?", and "how can Sherlock suddenly afford the flat on his own?" and "how could Mrs Hudson afford not renting it out at all for two years?"

Mycroft may have secretly paid her off somehow.

That's what Mycroft did in the Conan Doyle stories -- he paid the rent.

I had forgotten that when I wrote my comment. If they followed canon (assuming they ever tell us what they did with Baker Street during that time) then that would be most likely.

There's also the possibility that renting out flats is merely Mrs. Hudson's cover for her actual business -- whatever that may be!

That almost implies she could still be doing at least some of the stuff she did in Florida before he husband was executed for murder.

Some future episode covers more of her back story with a tag that reads the equivalent of Mrs. Hudson not who she seems. That could be interesting :)

True. But how would that work with "our" Mrs Hudson without making her suspicious? I mean, what would Mycroft have told her as to why he wanted to keep renting the flat? Also, she tells John she "couldn't face letting it out", which sounds as if she could have.

There could always be some secret way. Mycroft has means after all he's able to commandeer planes & the likes.

I definitely wonder about this, but I do think Sherlock can afford it.  After all, his consulting business picked up considerably once John started his blog.  I tend to think he was being paid very irregularly before John; in SiP, we hear Donovan say that Sherlock doesn't get paid for the cases he does with the Met, but he does them because he likes them.  I figure he's doing a lot of "pro bono" and some paying work he gets through word of mouth, and then he meets John.

Whichever episode it is (TGG, I think), John points to the blog and says "that's your living, Sherlock, not 240 kinds of tobacco ash," or whatever the quote is.  So I think at that point, Sherlock has enough interesting, paying cases that he could well afford a flat in central London on his own.  We know that Seb paid him 20,000 pounds plus a deposit up front for taking the case in TBB, so apparently this detective stuff can be pretty lucrative.  With the blog getting about 2,000 hits a day or more and Sherlock rising in celebrity, he suddenly can command that kind of cash for the most interesting cases -- and basically every crime in London is going to be his for the taking if he wants it.  So I think fairly quickly he can afford most anything he wants.

You know your obsession's bad when you neglect your own consulting work to explain how Sherlock can live as a consulting detective....

Well, lying to John seems to be a national pastime. Mycroft told John that Moriarty had a universal computer key code, and right after that, Sherlock told John that everything Kitty Riley said about him was true. So why do we believe what Mrs. Hudson tells John? OK, she's a sweet. motherly old lady -- who used to be a stripper and may still be running a drug cartel.

I strongly suspect that Sherlock also has a possibly-small but steady income from a family trust fund or something of that sort.

"Cartel" is such a nasty word.  I prefer to think she's she's running a small herbal medication business from 221A.  And that the reason she never lets out 221C is because there's a HUGE bank of grow lights in there.....

Oh, right -- that's what I meant.  She's an herbalist!

Does anyone remember which thread had the question about "what does the phrase 'being English' convey to you", or something like that? I had a whole list of qualities, like "being polite, being proper, etc." I want to find it so I can go back and add that "being English means 'habitually lies to John Watson.'"

(Do you know how long it took me to decide how to punctuate that sentence? And I'm still not sure I got it right.... Bendy's right, English is weird.)
