It would've been even worse for me; after TRF I figured Sherlock would be in hiding but otherwise okay; but after HLV I would've imagined him in somewhere in hell. (Figuratively.) And John not knowing he was .....

Here, I'll loan you my hanky. :)

What keeps me hooked is that this series always gives me something to think about. It's very unlikely that I'll ever completely understand either the plots or the characters, and I don't think there is a definite answer to a lot of the unanswered questions in the episodes, because most of the time, probably nobody thought of one. So I can go on and on wondering and speculating and theorizing as much as I like. It's a bit like a true never-ending story, because you're never really done with it (at least I'm not).

The story lines keep me hooked and some I start laughing because I know what's going to happen next even if it is not at a funny moment yet.  & it doesn't hurt that the lead is just a little older than me by less than 2 years.

Lucky you! Mr. Cumberbatch's pretty much three times my age!

Last year I decided to check out films by Alan Rickman after watching Snow Cake for the first time (finding it completely by chance & loving it).  Then I found out that he is basically old enough to be my dad as he is about 4 years younger than my mom (I have older parents as my dad is a year older than Benedict's dad & my mom is a couple years younger than that).

Well Ben is basically young enough to sort of be like a son for me... because I'm just old enough for that which is sort of frightening because I still think of myself as being eternally about 25 at heart, but then my parents are older than his (and still living).

 So? That's the great thing about voices, they often keep better than looks. Although I think Mr Rickman is still pretty good-looking. I just watched an old film with him the other night, and at one point, his character recited poetry. I nearly had a... something possibly not quite decent, whatever it was.

If I believed in reincarnation, I'd want to be reborn as a man with a lovely voice. And this ties back nicely to what keeps me addicted to Sherlock - among many things, Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock voice and the lines they wrote for him. He talks like a poet, yet it comes across as totally natural.

Off topic, but age wise, I'm finding it kinda fun that so many of the actors and actresses in shows I love right now are my generation, roughly my age.  :)

And Alan Rickman, I will always love him and his voice.

Ditto.  Basically everyone on Sherlock is an age-peer of mine, if you accept about a 10-year age span as being peers.  That's cool.  (What's that quote?  "Terror is waking up and realizing your high school graduating class is running the country?")

Alan Rickman is much closer to my parents' age, but I've had a crush on him for years.  I'd buy tickets to listen to that man read the phone book.

So normally I think BC has a lovely voice, but it's not the same as Alan Rickman.  But the opening scene in TGG, before they show BC, when he's talking to that guy who's going to be hanged... he sounds so much like Alan Rickman to me in that moment.

There are moments as Sherlock (and as Khan) where Benedict seems to slip into his Alan Rickman impersonation without going Snape with the voice.  (I half expect at some point down the road ancestry.com will find that they have some distant mutual relative.)

Are they still doing Who Do You Think You Are?  in the UK?

All this voice-worshipping reminded me of this:

I think it would really help civic literacy in this country (the U.S.) if we could somehow coax BC, Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman, and Patrick Steward to take turns reading the Congressional Record on CSPAN.  I wouldn't just watch that, I'd be willing to ante up for pay-per-view.
