One more reason:

you just made me forget for a while that after my last bilious colic I cannot ignore the fact any longer: I will need a surgery soon.

I'm not really sure what all of this means, but I'm sorry that you need surgery.  :(

Oh no! I'm sorry! Augh, I hate surgery, it's so ... er, invasive. All best wishes for a quick procedure and a speedy recovery.

Short version: a gall stone. We were ignoring ourselves for almost two years since the first diagnose. But it is like carrying a time bomb inside you. Imagine a really bad colic would happen at the Con. girl_impossible.gif

Dear J. P., I am sure that it will be minimally invasive and keyhole, after all they have the latest technology in all major hospitals! Can't they shatter it through ultrasound treatment?

I'm going to be rude to the rest of our dear support group by saying Alles Gute und Schnelle Besserung!

Well, let's continue to do our best to distract you, JP, shall we? (In any language! )

Hm, what keeps me hooked ...

The acting, of course. The way it all looks. The cleverness, the ambiguity, and the unanswered questions. The humor. Benedict.

But mostly I think it's just all so ... decent. I'm not even sure how to explain what I mean by that. Ummm ... this is a show that treats the audience as intelligent beings by refusing to offer easy answers; that respects the talents of its cast and crew by letting them shine; and I guess at its big beating heart, it's about the value of intellect, love, loyalty and friendship. Or something like that. It just makes me feel good to watch it, instead of wanting to divorce myself from the human race. I'm not sure if that's a response to the storylines, or a response to the obvious pride, care and affection that goes into the making of every frame. A bit of both, perhaps.

The creative "fallout": stunning or utterly funny stuff that I find online...

The makers that makes us "dance" to their riddles with smile on our faces...

Thanks for the wishes, guys. I have no appointment yet, but just decided to make one after the visit to my GP today.

Best of luck with that pesky gall stone, J.P.! If it's any consolation, I know several people who underwent that operation (isn't aging great?) and every single one of them was happy with the result and said if they had known how much better they felt they'd have done this so much sooner.

Ich drück dir ganz fest die Daumen, dass alles klappt .

I'll second that, J.P., and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you as well.

One more!

Wish you good recovery.

I like your priority of concern :).

My brother went through similar operation, now he is maintaining his condition of doing apple juice detox once in a while, he can actually pass the smaller gall stones without surgery. Because apparently it can come back.

Now to topic..

A lot of good things had been said.

I just add that I can relate to many things from this series. Some scenes and stories hit so close to home.

Maybe not the best example, eyeball tea.

I didn't drink eyeball tea. God no. It's not the same request. But I can relate it very well to ridiculous things I did when I was caught off guard with something.

Mine has something to do with dogfood.

It was surprisingly okay too.

Yeah, in spite of their oddness, the characters are really relatable, aren't they? Well, maybe not CAM ....

Dear Arcadia, you are such a source of giggles and pure delight I wish I could hug you instead of your virtual Teddybear!

Any University President and their Board of Directors are as relatable as the much-maligned news potentate! Not even petty tyrants would begin to describe the situation! Indeed, poor CAM pisses in their fireplace, steals Sherlock's olive and flicks John in the face. A University Senate meeting can reduce one to tears of impotent rage, make one feel about one centimetre tall and turn one into quivering jelly with a single withering comment or look of reproach!

In real life, of course, they do not get to lick one's face, as he did to Lady Smallwood, but they can grope and "accidentally" rub against one without fear of harassment accusations. And don't let me get started on male professors and female students!

You must live such a sheltered, almost cloistered life, I envy you! He 's more relatable than the pure insanity of our playful villain, indeed!

I think what keeps me hooked with Sherlock is the fantastic writing, the brilliant acting and the sheer cleverness of it all.

What keeps me hooked is, first and foremost, watching the episodes again and again, every x months. I need to do that to survive the awful hiatus.

Also, all the fan sites, fan art, forums, meta analysis, predictions... There are many puzzles left to solve, several possible solutions and a few individuals working hard on new fan-made content on a regular basis. The BBC Sherlock fandom is great.

Fan art can be absolutely fantastic, although I do hope that one day it can just be looked on as art and have the stigma of "fan" removed from it.

Then first they're going to have to stop "borrowing" images from photographers. It's not lack of skill that earns "fan artists" a special category, it's their disregard of copyright law (not to mention privacy rights). If they work that out, I don't think the good ones would have any trouble dropping the "fan" part of their title. But then, they'd probably have to give up drawing their favorite people too. They may not think it's worth the trade off.

Dictionary.com's word of the day does a good job at keeping the Sherlock addiction alive.  So many of their words in some way, shape, or form can or does apply to Sherlock.  Today's word is jiggery-pok3ry.

And, in some cases, using the term "fan art" will (slightly) protect the artist.  What Shepard Fairey did with the Obama head shot was illegal for a professional, but it would have been legal (as I understand it) had it been done in an academic context as "student art," because there's a much broader interpretation of copyright for the purposes of education.  Because so many artists post on student-heavy sites like DeviantArt, I think calling the work "fan art" implies a bit of understanding that many of these works are created as an artistic exercise and not as a potential profit center.

Yes, thank you, I meant to add something like that but forgot. Although I see sfmpco's point; the term is often used in a derogatory way. I think any other term they adopt would be used the same way, though; human nature. We humans really aren't very nice to each other sometimes.

Well, seeing as Benedict would never sit still for the untold multitudes out there wanting to do his portrait, their only choice is to use a photograph by someone else.  If he only chose the best to keep, he could still probably easily fill several storage units, because much of it is fantastic and really shows the wealth of talent out there.

I don't really have issues with using a photograph.  Good grief, I hope to start my own collage painting soon, and what choice to I have but to work from material that already exists???  There isn't a single freeze frame of his face anywhere that someone will not immediately identify.

Copyrights?  Well technically, even in fan fiction, to put something into words  even based on someone else's characters will make your work copyrighted.    That doesn't mean you have the right to make money off of it, but that it is your own original creation is copyrightable.  The same would true of artwork.
