I saw the best Shakespeare at the Cinema, it was The Globes, Twelfth Night, which they took to Broadway over last years Christmas/New Year period, it garnered a Tony for Mark Rylance, and several of the cast were also nominated, including Stephen Fry.   :wub: .  It was so good loved it, the two hours just flew by.

it did cost a fortune, but I could get a couple of ticks too, matinee and evening show, in august, which I'm very happy about and looking extremely forward to. 

 

never been too much into shakespeare (shame I know, but I'm being honest..). last shakespearian stage show I went to though, was amazing and so it raised my interest.

 

I have never seen benedict in person before and I'm of course pretty excited about that.

 

I agree with those who stated it's likely hamlet will turn out a "nightmare" as far as the whole stage door crazyness is concerned. it certaintly has the potential. 

 

NTL was never an option for me: didn't even broadcast coriolanus in town. would have had to travel to a bigger place anyway.  :(

 

 

Benedict has already stated that he will not be doing any stage doors at Hamlet, which is a shame, but understandable.

For Benedict to do a stage door, he would have to wait an hour or so before sneaking out so that there would be less fans and that is only after some performances, completely unannounced.

He's quoting Shakespeare (in this case, As You Like It) like it actually means something.  (I hate it when actors recite Shakespeare -- as though it were so much nonsense.  That's probably why I shy away from Shakespeare performances.)

 

 

Good heavens, but that was awesome.  Yes, I love it when actors actually act Shakespeare like it really has some meaning, rather than reciting it like it's a school assignment.

actually I think it's even worse: if he starts doing stage doors, he'll be chased home, or to the pub, or to wherever he wants to go and has a right to go after his performance, like they did with hiddleston. simply awful  :angry:

Remember that National Theatre Live will be showing it in select theaters across the USA on October 15.  I am lucky that one of those theaters is 2 miles from me.

That's 3 days after I see it live.

How soon ahead will they sent out the tickets?

I don't have mine yet...I wondered if those going in August had got theirs yet?

If you go to ntlive's website (don't have it off the top of my head but should be somewhere in here), you can then check for theaters in your area and when they are showing it.

I was hoping NTL would pick up Constellations, but I don't think it's gonna happen.  Constellations was apparently on Broadway with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson.  *sigh*

 

ETA:  Arcadia, NTL does often have a showing that is broadcast live, but they record it too and it's shown at theaters after the fact.  That's how I saw both Frankenstein and Streetcar.  Neither were live performances when I saw them in the theater.

I know the US is getting a tape delay of that day's performance from what I read at the site a few months back.
