This site has Blu-Ray screencaps for Series 2 and 3 (regular DVD, apparently, for Series 1).  So if you can find a scene later on with a good view of Molly's badge, you might be able to make out something more.

If it's a fake, it's a good one, no denying that.  But someone could have started with what's visible on a screencap and then filled in their own details.

I'm really surprised this hasn't come up at a comic con with a definitive answer.

Interestingly enough, I took a little stroll through the S3 screencaps ... and she is not wearing any badge at all that I could find ... except in Anderson's fantasy in TEH. That appears to be the same badge we see elsewhere.... take a look

My guess is it's just another of those things we have to wonder about .....

Even if we're to believe that Anderson fantasizes her with the correct badge, that's pretty much out of focus.  *sigh*  Could be the same, or could be just about any words roughly the same length.

Maybe they're just keeping their options open, in case Molly ever needs to be one thing or another in order to support a plot point.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised. What IS their problem with commitment? :D

Then there's her ID badge -- though I don't know wellingtongoose has ever stated where that came from (i.e., whether it's the one actually worn by Louise Brealey while playing Molly, rather than a fan construct).

I just checked the date on that Tumblr post, and it's 15 December 2013 -- pre-Series-3 and also pre-SHERLOCKED-Convention.  So that narrows down the possible sources somewhat.

Problem, what problem?   :evilmoff:  are committed to playing with our minds, psyche, emotions, etc.  :)

They're committed to having us committed, you mean? :D

There's a clear enough shot of the badge in the The Great Game from the HD pics that Arcadia linked to where you can clearly read Molly Hooper, but I still can't make out the title below.

So she has it on in Season 1 (ASIP and TGG).  I only skimmed, but I don't see it at all in ASIB, but it's back for TRF and while blurry and from far away, it looks the same as above from what little I can tell.

ETA:  It's only in Anderson's scenario in TEH, although it does look the same.  So Anderson has a very detailed memory?  lol.  But other than that, I saw what Arcadia saw for Season 3... no badge.

OK, I've posted the question on wellingtongoose's main Molly meta on LiveJournal.  Will let y'all know if I get a reply.

I got a reply, but it doesn't really get us anywhere:

the picture is supposed to be of the actually badge Louise wears when playing Molly Hooper. I unfortunately cannot authenticate it.

It occurs to me that there's another character whose official role is also poorly defined -- Anderson.

In the pilot, he's credited as "Dr. Anderson," apparently meaning that he's a forensic pathologist or medical examiner or whatever the British term might be.

In Series 1 and 2, however, he's listed as merely "Anderson," with his precise function left unspecified.  We see him hanging out with Sergeant Donovan a lot, even when they're not at crime scenes, so he could be a policeman, presumably working for Scotland Yard's crime lab.  Or perhaps he's still a forensic pathologist who just hangs out at Scotland Yard a lot (the way Dr. McCoy was always hanging out on the bridge of the Enterprise).

Of course, last we heard, he had lost whatever job he'd once had, due to excessive enthusiasm.

I thought he lost it due to excessive theorizing. :p

Yeah, exactly -- excessive enthusiastic theorizing!

Molly Hooper, often attracted to cruel and dysfunctional men. Sone speculates that it is because she have a low self-esteem and fatal attraction to those who might be able to add some excitement to her life. Some said that it is probably her nurturing instinct. What do you think the probable reason of her interest to such people?

The only cruel and dysfunctional man she's attracted to that I know of is Sherlock, and I don't think he's actually either -- he's just rude. When Moriarty was dating her it seemed to me he was acting like a normal bloke, she wouldn't have seen the cruel side of him, I don't think.

So my answer is: she's not drawn to such people. She's drawn to Sherlock, and I think at first it was his dark and mysterious looks, and mostly now I think it's his brilliance. And his unattainability. I guess that makes her a bit of a romantic?

And I think a good bit of that could also be said about John and his supposed attraction to dangerous people.

Yeah, I still think Moffat just thinks "attracted to danger" sounds more sexy than "attracted to intelligence." I confess, he has a point..... :p

So it is a different case between Sherlock and Richard Brook, who the latter is already showing signs of being fake both in the lab and Kitty Riley's flat.

To his brilliance, as we saw in TSoT.

To his social awkwardness, as we saw in TSoT.

Because she tries to 'fix' him, because she sees him. She probably has a very good guess about what Sherlock really are, not the same with his exterior. But he hides it, and that intrigues her. It would intrigue me too.

An exoskeleton protection with something delicate underneath.

Eh... I beg to differ..

They are.. equally sexy.. XD

Yeah, they are, aren't they? I stand corrected.

Love that!

But technically exoskeleton has its kryptonite. Once you know it, it's very destructable and self harming.

Which I think applicable to Sherlock too and more.

(Try spraying a pesty ant with soapy water and see how fast it dies.

Disclaimer: not recommend killing if you don't have to :))

That must be why we fall head over heels for him?!?

Sigh...

There goes the Mollycroft-ship (sweet but only possible if they can get past the gigantic hurdle of the initial attraction phase) ^^
