I like Mum & Dad Holmes. If they kill either one, please have due to the fact that said parent could physically/mentally no longer do the role in real life (they're going to be 80 & 76 respectively this year).

And lay off of Bluebell!  :P

P.S.:  I think John punched the Chief Superintendent (and head-butted Sherlock).

If they continue the series (as everyone seems to want) for a few more decades, Una Stubbs will presumably opt out eventually -- but I sure hope they don't literally kill Mrs. Hudson, as in unnatural causes.  She could go to live with her sister, and sell #221 to Mrs. Turner.

People don't change their attitude unless given reason for it. The allure of comfort zone is often too much for most.

Speaking from experience :P -- having an older sibling (or three  ) trying to run your life for you can be very motivating! :D

Never noticed it having that effect on my little brothers!

I wouldn't know! :D (It's lovely being the baby of the family .... once you get your older siblings to back off!) (Most people think I'm a sweet little cuddly thing that never bites or scratches. My siblings know better!)

"Sweet little cuddly thing"... that's what a lot of people think of me 'till they learn about my involvement in fandoms

In fact, that's what I first thought of Molly, and I thought of her that way for a while until the little scrap between her and Sherlock in Scandal.

Or she could sell 221B to Sherlock.  Surely he's making enough income by now to afford it.

I don't offhand recall that scene.  Give me a hint?

Nope, that wouldn't be canon.  ;)  Whereas there was one story where Holmes's landlady was Mrs. Turner.

The scene I do believe is the Christmas deduction fiasco.

Yep, our girl Molly has some fight in her. :applause:

It's the bit where Sherlock pokes fun at Molly during the little Christmas party, and then finds out that her best present is to him, and then backpedals and apologises.

Oh, OK -- I misinterpreted your reference as a physical "scrap," though of course you didn't say that.  I agree with you then, I think that's the first real hint we got of Molly's steel framework.

Oh I don't know.  She snapped at Sherlock in TGG over "gay Jim."  She spoke her mind to him then.

True.

You think Sherlock really believed he was trying to be kind at that point?

Oh he wasn't trying to be nice.  He was trying to be superior and was nothing but a git.

Kind, maybe not, but I think he actually believe he was doing Molly a favour by pointing out the obvious and save her some time.

I think he was being kind when he refrained himself not to repeat 'gay' in front of Jim.
He blurted out the first one because he is Sherlock. He does that.

Anyway, Molly was very pissed also about the two and a half pound. How could Sherlock possibly know that? And should be no biggy rite..?
I gain two pounds everytime I eat, and shed two pound everytime I sh.. hm.. go to toilet.

No. I think he didn't care whether he was kind or no, he was just being his usual self, and glad to burst Molly's little bubble into the bargain. Sherlock might have no intention of ever dating Molly himself, but my impression is he doesn't like other men going out with her either...

Oh, he was just showing off, an usual reflex... but again, there could be just a little unconscious element of jealousy: Sherlock was about to lose his Nr 1 fan. ;)

I do think that in some weird way, Sherlock looks upon Molly as "his" girl. He's not really in love with her (I think), and he doesn't fantasize about her running around in his mind palace with no clothes on, he won't try to be in a relationship with her any time soon, either, but I get the impression that he's very used to her being focused on him emotionally, and there for him, and that he likes that more than he's willing to admit. He acts as if he thought her adoration was annoying, especially during the first two series, but he would not be happy at all if it were to be withdrawn.

Sherlock took "Jim from IT" apart in seconds and indirectly told Molly that having a boyfriend was making her fat. In The Reichenbach Fall, he advised her to stay away from relationships in the future. When he found out that she was engaged to Tom, his reaction was lovely and mature - for one scene. Then at the wedding, he made sure to give Tom the opportunity to show the entire room what a fool he is (and how cool Sherlock is by comparison). It's really no wonder that Tom and Molly are split up by the time His Last Vow comes round...

I doubt Sherlock actively wishes the people dearest to him to remain single and focus on him while he will never be able or willing to be anyone's romantic partner. But there is that element to him. He's a rather selfish character. Always has  been - in one Doyle story, I remember Dr Watson expressing his "annoyance" at his friend's "egocentricity".

Of course so far, Molly hasn't made the best choices in men and one could say Sherlock was actually justified in nudging the relationships towards failure. It would be interesting to see what happened if Molly ever found a really good man (if she got together with Lestrade, for example...).

What's interesting about Sherlock taking Jim apart instantly is that Moriarty, I believe, was intentionally going overboard to deceive Sherlock.  This is not about whether Moriarty may or may not actually be gay but that he was leaving visually misleading clues to throw Sherlock off his scent.  The underwear, the card under the dish, the grooming... it was smoke and mirrors and Sherlock didn't see through it perhaps because he was distracted by the thought that Molly was involved with someone he instantly deemed gay - which Moriarty undoubtedly heard clearly and was pleased that his deception was working.  Moriarty simply couldn't resist getting up close to Sherlock without being truly noticed, and he used Molly as his means to get there.

I believe the technical term for that is "hound in the manger."

Yup, I think you're right. (Note that he also told John that being married was making him fat.) He likes for people to be available when he needs them.

Rewatched ASiB today. Molly is more beautiful clad in the whites of St. Bart's (morgue scene when Irene Adler's body double identified by Sherlock) than in the Christmas little black dress.
