That rings a bell, I wonder if I can find it. Stay tuned!

Posted

It might already be in the vid forum I'm pretty sure it was posted here somewhere. I just want the fic version :D It was based on a fic supposedly that was nowhere near as good as the trailer.

EDIT: Or not since I can't find it!

I haven't read much fanfic, but there is one post-Reichenbach story ("Given in Evidence") where John becomes something of a vigilante, heedless of his own safety. It's an integral part of the plot, not just a BAMF* paste-on. The story also has some very funny bits, some incredibly intricate canon references, and a very sweet, well thought out first-kiss (and so forth) Johnlock subplot. This isn't the first time I've recommended it.

* Just noticed that could just as well stand for Bad-Ass Martin Freeman. (And that's even Safe For Work.)

Ah yes, I've remember reading that and enjoying it :D

Ah, the thing I'm thinking of is a fanfic, but I can't find it, it was too long ago. John's whole time with Sherlock was just a psychotic break, it was kind of interesting. Drat. I'm pretty sure it was over a year ago that I read it. Sorry.

It would make me sad if Sherlock wasn't 'real' anyway  :P

Yes, it did do that. Why do we torment ourselves so? :d

Try Ao3, I remember seeing one or two stories like that there months ago.

I know this is Setlock, but this is the sort of thing I mean by the fake teeth...

Because his teeth are so perfect, you mean? I don't know, here's a much younger Martin with the same teeth

I think he's just one of those annoying people who has perfect teeth. The rest of him ain't bad, neither. :naughty:

He doesn't normally appeal to me much, but I have to admit he look's pretty tasty in this gif

I had today the idea to check finally Urban dictionary what BAMF actually means, because  have read it already very often and could not figure it out....yes, there should be a picture of Martin Freeman beside it  ...

I have said it before, but it bears repeating: MF is the stealth sex symbol.  You don't think you find him attractive, but then you watch him move and hear him speak and (be still my heart) watch the things he opts to wear when he's just being 'him," and you realize that he's pretty hot.

Aw, I first fell for Martin because he just seemed so squeezably sweet! :D Not so much now, and I understand perfectly why a 40-something year old man would want to shed that image. But he's the reason I decided to watch Sherlock in the first place; not because he was sexy, but because I found him adorable and a darn good actor. Then Ben swooped in with that damned scarf and stole me away. Sorry, Martin. I do think you're a bit sexy, though. :D

A 'stealth sex symbol' lol :D

Yea, I see what you mean, I watched Whisky Tango Foxtrot recently and he's pretty attractive in that.

As himself I don't find him cuddly, I think he's too dry and sarcastic for that, which since that's pretty much the way I am I still find quite appealing!

By the way when you google BAMF in Germany, it says 'BundesAmt für Migration und Flüchtlinge' ( Federal Office for Migration and Refugees )...

I wanted to see 'Whisky Tango Foxtrot' after I saw the trailer in the cinema, but it was in the theatres only one week and very late, so I didn't catch it...maybe on DVD later then...

Okay, I will say something to bring down the wrath of many, many revered forum members on me, but: I don't really enjoy Martin Freeman's current public persona and I have not really liked what I saw of him in interviews and such like of late. BUT (before anyone hits me... I do mean it though): I think he is an absolutely brilliant actor. I only watched Sherlock initially because I was told he was playing John Watson. He has way of making his characters seem incredibly real, even though I can never forget it's him playing them. And of course I will always have a crush on Tim from The Office...

I agree with you T.o.b.y, it's like I said earlier, he is very spiky and edgy and it's not always altogether comfortable watching interviews with him. The interview I mentioned earlier on Graham Norton with Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd he said a few things that might have been an extremely dry sense of humour, or might have just been him being an arsehole, and where as someone would usually smile or add an extra humorous comment to differentiate between the two he didn't. Seth Rogan seemed really taken aback, like he had no idea at all how to respond. It made for uncomfortable watching. I also remember an interview with Jonathan Ross years ago where he was very much the same and there was this constant uneasy edge like he was about to kick off any second.

I do like him, and I think he's brilliant as John, but I wish he would tone down the attitude. I know someone earlier (can't remember who, sorry!) said they didn't like Ben's public persona now he's more famous but I disagree, he always seems sweet, nice, and self-deprecating, pretty much the opposite of Martin.

I'll have a hunt, see if I can find the interview clip I'm talking about.

EDIT:

Can't find it annoyingly. Basically as it gets to his turn to start talking both Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd reach for their drinks and he has a crack them for not bothering to pay attention now that it's his turn to speak. There is no pleasant jokey smile to relieve the tension, and later when they start talking again he makes a point of getting his drink and not paying attention to them. It probably was meant as a really dry joke, but you can see them both trying to figure him out and thinking WTF?! All he had to do was a little cheeky chappy smile and it would have been fine, but he seems to be getting increasingly deadpan as he gets older, more famous, and able to get away with it.

Oh dear. I don't mean to pile on, but I know exactly what you both mean. I try not to read too much into it, but still ... well, I'll leave it at that. I'm still interested in any performance he does, and that's what matters. But I can't squee over him the way I do Ben (or Rupert  ) That's fine, no reason why I should need to.

And I'm the third one.
My first encounter with him was The Hobbit and I had the impression he was born for this part. And I will be forever thankful for Sherlock being mentioned in the DVD extras. At the beginning it was a bit hard not to look for pointy ears on John, but soon I was completely enchanted by his acting.
I don't find him cuddly. Sometimes funny, but the best description I can give was "angry little man", which is actually someone's words. It is a kind of underlying aggression I sense around him that lights a little alarm lamp in my head.

Still, I would love to meet him eye to eye to build my own opinion.

Hmm, odd.  I've always taken it as just his sense of humor.  (Maybe that explains why some people take offense at my sense of humor?)

I can't be certain that I've seen the specific clips that y'all are talking about, though -- could someone post a link to any of the videos mentioned?

The Graham Norton interview doesn't seem to be online anywhere, I had a good search but nothing turned up :(

It's the Graham Norton Show season 19 episode 6 if you can find it anywhere.

He was perfect for Bilbo. Perfect.
