This is Jicama, some kind of editable tuber, also known as Mexican turnip. Good for salad, fruit subtitute and maybe soup. I actually quite like it as it tastes fresh and cooling.

It looks to me like there's something inside it and you open the thing at the bottom so you can squeeze it out. But that's not a very efficient design for squeezing, unless maybe you squeeze it from top to bottom? Some sort of weird mustard bottle? I'm way off track, aren't I?
