A Sherlock double (probably a stunt double) is on set today.  Not the same guy the used for TRF.

Dunno -- he looks not unlike the guy we saw in "Empty Hearse."  Though of course they all have to look a good bit alike!

I'm thinking that may actually be from TEH. BC's got blood on his face, and that hair doesn't look like S4 hair (on either of them.)

Definitely another person. The old one had a roundish face. Are they at the Fall explanations again or is Sherlock in another trouble? It's definitely blood on his face.

Maybe they are not really shooting Sherlock, but advertisements for a shaver sales company??? (then give me one of those - Martin's head is first! I so can't stand the new hair! It's even worse than the moustache... :giggle:)

I think it's a Moftiss joke on the fans. Here we were, all worried about Sherlock's curls, and it's John who goes and gets the awful hairdo!

I actually like Martin's hairdo, it's a nice look for him. But it's not John!

From filming at Cardiff University earlier this week:

Sherlock with a beard? Um... no. Doesn't look right. And as for John's new hairstyle - I h... um, really dislike it. As in really dislike.

What on earth was wrong with how they looked before?

There is a wild speculation going on about them adapting The dying detective, where Sherlock fakes an illness to catch a villain (Culverton Smith. Is Toby playing Culverton Smith?). Most possibility that's why he looks so horrible.

Not sure about John's hair though.

Oh, I love The Dying Detective!  I can see that happening, since I think they also said the student union at that college was being redressed as a children's hospital.  Maybe it's the children's wing of the hospital, and someone is after Baby Watson and Sherlock gets himself checked in so that he can sneak into the children's wing and keep an eye on the Baby?

You know, I like John's hair, or, as Arcadia pointed out, I like Martin's hair.  That hairstyle is just a bit too "mod" for how I picture John.  Although, I could get into the idea that instead of marriage and family life making him staid and boring, John takes the opportunity of knowing he is married to an ex-CIA operative to up his game and become even cooler than he already was!

Yeah, but "cool" makes him sound just a wee bit shallow, and Watson is more like those still waters that run deep.

I suppose I could tolerate that hair style as long as he repents of it before the end of Episode 1.

Oops ... they're already filming Episode 2, aren't they? OK then, if he looks like John again by the midpoint of the second episode.

Is the pompadour "in" again? It makes me think of Bobby Rydell. Next thing ya know, John will be sporting Buddy Holly eyeglasses (I've already seen Martin Freeman in them ... which is, again, fine for him ... just not so sure if they'd work on John.)

I am of the opinion that they already did "The Dying Detective" with The Reichenbach Fall. But of course they could use elements of it again.

And I must admit I don't like that hairstyle on anybody. Certainly not John.

can you tell me in which part? As far as I remember they did The final problem in TRF, including Sherlock manipulating John to leave the lab with a false phone call. It is also part of TFP too

I find the phone-call bears more resemblance to the sickroom conversation in The Dying Detective: Watson is told to stand at a specific distance, to not move, etc. And an illusion is being created that Holmes is seriously ill, in The Reichenbach Fall, he's pretending to be suicidal, in The Dying Detective he claims he has a fever. In both cases, Holmes plays on his best friend's concern to manipulate him into doing whatever he considers best for the case, and he's not terribly remorseful about his prank, either.

(I think I wrote a longer bit a while ago on this... If I can find it, I'll dig it up and link it. But no promises. I've spewed out an awful lot of words around here...)

thanks Toby. But The final problem had same scene too. Watson received a letter just before Holmes planed to meet Morierty at the fall that a dying lady waa needed medical attention and was asking for Watson's help, and Watson left Homles alone by the fall. He finds the call was fake, and returned to find Holmes gone and a note left from him. I guess the fake phone call about Mrs Hudson in TRF is equivalent to this fake letter scenerio.

That's exactly what I started to say, Janine ... but then I realized that T.o.b.y was probably talking about Sherlock's rooftop phone call to John down on the street. (It helps that I've heard her "Dying Detective" analogy before.)

Beryl Vertue apparently said today at her CBE ceremony that she saw no reason why Sherlock shouldn't go on for S5 and more.

Here's a write-up with a bit more detail, some nice photos, and her description of the new baddie.

Interesting slate for S4.... notice that it says 50 fps - 50 frames per second.  Normally it's 24 fps, so they are filming something that when played back at normal speed will look slow motion.

I seem to recall seeing a clapperboard for slo-mo on Sherlock before -- maybe for the special?  Did we ever find out which scene that was for?

Posted

I remember that too. I think it must have been the special, because I wasn't around for setlock before that.

Well, there was a lot of slo-mo in HLV, there was some in ASIP, some in TEH, some in TSOT, some in TRF.... you get the picture.
