I really like Mary too.  I don't like that she shot Sherlock, but then again, he very stupidly painted her into a corner -- and he seems to realize (afterward) that he had left her very little choice.

I still hate Mary for shooting Sherlock and still think it's an extreme act of selfishness that is not acceptable. However, after many discussions we all have around here, I sort of able to see various point of views that eventhough I still disagree, I understand them.

But fundamentally I like her type of character and maybe because I'm much closer to hers compared to other female characters.

But I'm not sure I understand what you said about the characters you can't stand.  Are you saying Sarah was like that?  My impression of her was pretty much the opposite -- at least, until the Evil Villains pointed a big honkin' arrow at her.

She is very high on my list for fictional characters that I can't stand, yes. And definitely from the way she behaves when the arrow was pointed at her, obviously (eventhough I would get a whack in my head for not getting the distress behavior under death threat but nah... shut up and do something useful already to save yourself), but also her in overall.

How to justify it nicely..eh.. I think she gives the 'desperate' vibes way too many times, and maybe the one I can't stand is when she was prying on Sherlock's works and personal space eventhough Sherlock was clearly annoyed with her presence. I think I am being too negative with her, maybe it's just the button that she can't unpress. She is nice to take over John's duty and providing him a place to stay though, I give her that.

Anyway, I've been restraining myself to comment about Pokemon Go, but geez, there are many stupid, idiot players out there.

I don't play that kind of game, but actually see that it has interesting and innovative concept. But I also figured there would be many potential problems and well yes. Geez. I don't know whether I should find these amusing or not.

To cap it short, (I think) Pokemon Go is a game where players have to catch Pokemon in real-time and real place. So they are required to walk or go distance or find places to look for pokemons. In a way, it encourage players to go out and explore their surrounding which is smart, but what is not smart they do the exploration with/from their phones.

So week by week, I observe and get amused by how potentially destructive it could be, and so far people have fallen from cliff, walk into highway, lost, broken relationship/marriage, fired, trespassing, almost drown, hit tree/hit cop's car/accidents, being mugged, stabbed and killed.

Is it modern natural selection?

OMG, I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's perfect. Modern technology has protected us from our own stupidity so much, we've had to invent a technological way to weed out some of the chaff ....

I have to admit the game does sound like fun. That's what's so diabolically clever about it; you think it's a treasure hunt game, but it's really natural selection! :lol4:

Okay, okay, I'll calm down now, I know it's not really funny that people are getting hurt ... except when it is...... :evilinside:

Thanks you guys! :) I still have no idea which was the 'offending word' in my post yesterday, but I know at least now what to look out for in the future....

Okay, now that's out of my system ... I really really like Mary's character. I don't like her supposed career, and I don't think it's in keeping with someone who exhibits as much warmth as Mary does. So either she's faking the warmth, or .... something else is going on. I hope the latter, because I really like the way she's portrayed, especially her sass. She's a good foil for the boys when they indulge in their own idiocy. I liked Sarah, too, but she was a little too perfect. And I didn't see the chemistry between her and John that I do between John and Mary.

I do think that we are supposed to believe Sherlock's "surgery" explanation, and that's supposed to redeem Mary by showing she's too good of a person to kill her friend; that she is willing to place herself at risk from him in order to save him. Sounds preposterous to me too, folks! But I think we're meant to accept it in order to get on with the story that's really being told, which is about Sherlock's heart, not Mary's. So I do accept it, in that "willing suspension of disbelief" sort of way. But I concede that Moffat is asking us to put an awful lot of faith in him on that score. Hope he proves worthy of it!

And here's my "shoot the wall" part ... if anyone's tempted to use that last remark as a springboard to bash Moffat; please don't. Critique his work all you like, but let's stay away from the name calling, okay? I'm not in a patient mood today and I'm tired of those kind of useless remarks. Just sayin'.

People who keep repeating themselves annoy me, they sounds like a broken record which in my eyes only fit to be thrown away into the garbage bin. They might need constant reminder about what other people had said but not me. Once is enough, the moment you start to repeat yourself you begin to earn my ire for wasting precious time. Pay attention, people, not everyone needs something hammered down into their thick skull like you are. If I already responding and it was correlating with what you've said, the idea already received and processed. Your further attempt to force rote memory only will make sure that I rebel at your control freak tendency.

I do know what you mean, but since I'm one of those people ... I do it out of nervousness, primarily if I'm communicating with someone who doesn't signal back that they have received and understood what I'm trying to tell them. If they appear to not be listening (body language), or immediately launch into a non-sequitur, I'll take that to mean they didn't understand what I said. And if I'm nervous anyway, for whatever reason, that kind of response just makes it worse. So if you're dealing with someone who repeats themselves, maybe you could try looking them in the eye, nodding at the right places, and saying something afterwards to indicate that the message was received and understood. It might help.

Already done it and she keeps doing the same thing next time. Honestly, just because I didn't talk, talk and talk it doesn't mean I am slow. I bring results without polluting the air with opinion about practically everything under the sun regardless I know about the subject or not. On the other hand, she needs to be told many times then have something enforced before she actually do it without straying, because her idea about how things should be done usually is a waste of resources with only mediocre result at best. She doesn't listen, likes to cut you in the middle (which only make me keep going with increasingly loud voice and believe me, my voice actually boomed in that mode) and what you've said might be already perceived wrong in the sense that her mind twisted it into something that she feels you actually said. Terrible listener because she is too busy to construct what she will say next instead of actually paying attention.

Yeah, and then there's people who just talk to hear themselves. Haven't found a way to deal with them yet......

Probably ducktapes but it is only a temporary solution, darn...

Or bagpipes?

I read a while ago that there are health risk for bagpipes and other similar instruments because of mold building up etc, so it's probably on sale now.

Plus point if you like bagpipe sound.

Minus point because this person may get stuck around and annoys you more. :p

Sure, I'll ask Mycroft to send her, bagpipes and all, to where her voice won't cause natural disasters.

It's a beautiful day... I have the weekend off... My husband is home... And I am sick in bed. Aaaaaaargh! This is so unfair. I hate being sick. Did try to get up and pretend I wasn't, but I felt very dizzy and nearly collapsed on the bathroom floor, so here I am, wasting a lovely day between old sheets, surrounded by kleenex, cough drops and nose spray. Grumble.

Argh! That's the worst! At least, right up there with being sick in bed on Christmas morning. Recover quickly! xZo8l7W.gif :tulip:

I'm gonna guess that you've been pushing yourself too hard, so that when you finally ease up a little, your body says "Aha -- an opportunity to shut her down and get some rest!" At least, I think that's why I tended to get the flu for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas when I was in college.

You have my sympathy! Get well soon, OK?

I am trying... Thanks you guys. And Carol, yeah, you're right, I shouldn't have gone to work on Friday. But I hate not being there before the weekend; I want to get everything in order.

I am so glad to be living with my husband now, though. He did the shopping, refills my teapot and... Well, he would have made me soup if I hadn't wanted a specific kind of soup and his face hadn't been so helpless at the mention of it that I scrambled out of bed, took myself and my blanket into the kitchen and showed him how. :-D

There is actually a term for sickness during holiday, if that is a regular pattern for you. It's called Leisure Sickness.

My nephew always gets sick during holiday, so I googled it up back then.

I never get one myself, but sometimes stupid things strike at wrong time, like having low blood pressure during strenuous activity, or cutting my hand open with knife during preparation of activity gear. Luckily, it's very seldom.

I never knew there was a name for it, but I've read that it happens because your body has been all keyed up, with all systems (including immune system) running in high gear. Then you suddenly relax, and all your bodily systems (including immune system) decide they can take a little break. The recommendation was that any time you go from heavy activity to hardly any, you should do it gradually. (Easy to say, not so easy to follow through with!)

Yes, from what I read, it's precisely what you describe.

There is another funny 'condition' called Paradise Syndrom, not exactly the same thing though.

 "Leisure Sickness" - that's like Sunday Migraine (get those as well). I guess this is nature's way of telling me that I was born to work. I am a little worker ant. :P It's a bit unfair, actually. I like a holiday as well as anyone. But I do sympathize to a degree with Sherlock: "without that, my brain rots." Yeah, Sherlock, mine too, except the loss wouldn't be half as severe as in your case.  :P

Sunday Migraine!

He he..nice.

I try to think of other combinations of day and sickness that doesn't sound gross too but all I have is Saturday Constipation. :p

Yes, I heard it on the news last night. I would have signed it but they want my email. :(

I use a throw-away email for such things. I have plenty of them :P

PS; It's not my intention to animate you to sign. It's just a piece of text that explains the situation very briefly. I'm really worried about what's going on over there. My favorite pop-cultural blogger reported she witnessed how two men were attacked in a bus because they were speaking English. Apparently it's not a single accident. It's like the Brexit fallout in UK.

It's like a virus had infected the human race, causing a human version of mad cow disease.
