Hmm, that's probably true sometimes. I don't post much, but then she might have assumed that my page looked sparse because only my "friends" were allowed to see the good stuff.

You meant to say "loveable," didn't you? But I think this was before apps -- I was still using my first desktop.

Absolutely!!! I stand corrected!! :d

I thought sending friend request in facebook to random strangers is just a way for people to inflate their 'friend' count for whatever reasons I fail to understand.

I had less than 80 of actual people that I know in 'friend' list, but there are close to 200 friend requests last time I checked couple of years ago. Few are people I'm supposed to know, like from the same uni or workplace, few are friends of friends I don't know or relatives that I don't care about, but more than three quarter of them are complete strangers.

All my settings are private, even if they could see the profile picture, it doesn't show anything as it's just a silhouette. I even changed the user name to something gilberish and hard to pronounce. Nothing interesting.

Maybe..gasp, there are a hack/way to trigger random request for friend? What for, I don't know.

If I don't know someone, that person is not likely to be accepted as a friend. There are a few friend of a friend types that I am friends with but not many.

I get the feeling that some people simply collect "friends," like others collect postcards or pretty rocks. Or in the case of Facebook, maybe "amass" would be a more accurate term.

That I understand.

Postcards and pretty rocks could be pretty.

'Collecting' strangers that you may or may not know a thing or two is 'hoarding'.

While we are on Fb topic, the level of the usage scares me actually. From TMI to seriously, I don't give a crap about what you are doing every five minutes to preferences to use it instead of dealing stuff face to face.

Two friends of mine, who ended up married engaged in 'threatening to divorce' war over their facebook's wall, called each other names and disclosed each other shortcomings in details, while they were on the same house. :blanket: :blanket:

It got really uncomfortable that someone decided to step in, and they started to 'talk' with this person about their spouse, making him/her middle man to insult each other.

I don't know what happens to them, never logged in shortly after that and I don't miss the stream of useless information that I don't care about.

Talk about airing dirty laundries in front of hundreds of strangers that they don't even know half of them.

I simply block those "friends," or "unfriend" them. That way they still have the pleasure of driveling on, and I have the pleasure of not seeing it.

This sodding article http://www.withanaccent.com/2016/07/27/sherlock-a-case-of-sexual-identity/

You know what? Sod this, sod everything.

I'm tired, you know. I'm tired of people calling me crazy,

I'm tired of people telling me it's never going to happen,

I'm tired of people telling me I just want to see them F***,

And I'm tired of people telling me I just want Mary to go because "I want my ship back".

First of all, I don't want them to F***, I don't NEED them to F***.

I just want them to talk to each other because the amount of miscommunication is KILLING me! (and maybe share a super passionate kiss.)

Secondly, I don't want Mary to go because "she's interfering with my ship" I want her to go because she shot Sherlock and NO ONE touches my baby!

If there's nothing there, then what the hell was even season 3, or hlv? I thought they wouldn't be that kind of show that would queerbait me, I hoped that after more than 130 years someone finally had the balls to go where no men had gone before.

But yay, another queerbaiting show. Great. First Merlin, then Supernatural and now I'm supposed to believe Sherlock is going to be like them?! Sod this, I did not spend 1,5 years hoping for canon Johnlock only for Gatiss to crush it.

We've been discussing the article above in another thread... And before you go there, let me warn you that most people who posted in it had quite a different reaction. So, you know. Decide for yourself what you want to expose yourself to.

Of course you're not crazy. I can imagine you are maybe very disappointed. I would be too if I had really, really hoped for a pairing to come true and then the people in charge of the story not only told me nope but also got annoyed with me for getting my hopes up. What I am afraid has happened is that someone or several someones (maybe professional medial someones) became a little pushy about this topic around the writers and put words into their mouth and of course that's bound to make people bristle in defense.

You're not the only person who is not okay with Mary shooting Sherlock. There are quite a few people around here who would like to see her go for the same reason who do not "ship" John and Sherlock at all.

The past three series make precious little sense if there is nothing there, I agree. I just don't think it's anything sexual. And to be fair, the sex part, the "regular gay couple" part is all that has been denied. Nobody to my knowledge has said that the boys don't love each other or that their story isn't the slightest bit romantic. It's just that they're never going to sleep with each other or get married, nor do they have any wish for this kind of relationship.

My only fear is that they'll completely shy aways from any meaningful interaction between the characters because "people might talk". That would be sad. Everything else I can live with.

So. You're not crazy. Okay? And I believe you that you don't "just want to see them F***."

Thanks Toby. I saw that thread, but this post made me mad

I think it's crazy that some people are taking it as some kind of personal attack, and furious that Gatiss would dare not have Johnlock be part of the show, as if he somehow promised and is now going back on his word. It's how vitriolic some people are being that shocks me. I love Sherlock, I like coming on here and discussing our various nutty ideas, but at the end of the day it's a TV show. It has no bearing on my real day to day life, and frankly there are too many real things to be worrying over to allow something so trivial as whether two characters will get it on or not to affect me to such a degree.

The people who are really up in arms are all talking about how Sherlock should be representing the gay community as if the writers have some sort of responsibility to make Johnlock a reality. It's utter craziness. And the anger seems to be directed at Gatiss more than Moffat, as if he is some sort of traitor for daring to be gay and not write his main characters as gay. Really, the level of anger around this mystifies me. They haven't even said that Sherlock isn't gay, they have left his sexuality ambiguous, and people are still fuming. I understand being invested in characters, and I like reading Johnlock stories as much as the next person, but people really need to get some distance on this.

Is has nothing to do with that! It's just that people are tired of being queerbaited. We all hoped Sherlock wouldn't be that show, and we were glad someone finally had the balls to make two men fall in love with each other. Now that article has made the Tjlc'ers mad and sad. *sigh* why am I even trying? I'm clearly the only tjlc'er on this forum :(

That doesn't have to be a bad thing... Diversity is what makes this place interesting.

That's true, but I became a member of this forum because I wanted to talk with other Tjlc'ers about the moment when we believed and stuff

I don't know whether there are any other conspiracy buffs here, but there are definitely other Johnlockers. Why don't you start a Johnlock thread, where y'all can compare notes?

Dear Aurelie, do you realize that your anger comes from disappointed hopes that were based on wishful thinking and wrong assumptions? Secondly, did you ever realized that this forum is probably the last place in the web to support TJLC?

And how the authors not giving in to demand of a part of fandom and keeping their story theirs can be called queer-baiting is beyond my comprehension.

Sorry.

That's what I thought too, J.P., but since I didn't know exactly what the term meant, I looked it up. Check out the Wikipedia page (sorry, on my cell phone or would link to it), and you'll see that Sherlock is actually a textbook case (and is, in fact, listed as an example).

But of course the whole thing hinges on the intent -- and I have no idea how that can be proven, one way or the other. So perhaps it's not a particularly useful concept in practice.

Sorry.

So what if it turns out wishful thinking? Do you have any idea what it's like to live in a world like this? There were four terrorist attacks in Germany alone. And I have been suffering from depression for the past six months, tjlc is what makes me go through the day. It gives me hope that one day everything will be better, allow me that glimmer of hope.

Secondly, I never demanded it to become canon. It's the fault of the writers to give others false hope.

Thirdly, I did not know this place would not support tjlc, if I knew then I would have never registered in the first place! This place is so depressing, it makes what little progress I made the past months crumble into dust. At least tell me that's it's my opinion, and your mileage may vary. I only hoped to talk to Tjlc'ers and tell each other about the moment we believed in it, that's all! Now if you excuse me, I have some knifes to hide before I change my mind

IMO. It would be a case if there was unmistakable sexual tension between the boys.

I haven't seen it. Until I stumbled upon sTumbler.

What I see is clear case of fans projecting their wishes/expectations/fantasies onto the show and getting angry because they were wrong. And because of a typical reaction to a Cognitive Dissonance, they won't blame themselves - so they blame the authors instead.

Here is a great quote from Anthony De Mello's Awareness I read ages ago and which sums up:

Do you think you help people because you are in love with them? Well, I've got news for you. You are never in love with anyone. You're only in love with your prejudiced and hopeful idea of that person. Take a minute to think about that: You are never in love with anyone, you're in love with your prejudiced idea of that person. Isn't that how you fall out of love? Your idea changes, doesn't it? "How could you let me down when I trusted you so much?" you say to someone. Did you really trust them? You never trusted anyone. Come off it! That's part of society's brainwashing. You never trust anyone. You only trust your judgment about that person. So what are you complaining about? The fact is that you don't like to say, "My judgment was lousy." That's not very flattering to you, is it? So you prefer to say, "How could you have let me down?"

Aurelie, this forum supports any civil exchange of ideas. We do not have an official stance on anything other than that. If you'd like to start a Johnlock-friendly thread, I'm sure you'd have company there.

J.P., I'm sure you meant to say that in your opinion, Aurelie was wrong. You've chosen to believe Moftiss, and that may be a logical choice. But since this whole issue rests on the matter of their intent, and since none of us are mind readers, nobody can say with absolute certainty.

So go ahead and discuss, ladies. Just please remember that opinions are not facts, and have respect for each other's views.

I live in the same Germany and fight with depression for 16 years already. So what? I found Sherlock life changing and inspiring to an extend I never thought was possible. I would be disappointed if it turned out different that I imagine it is. But I hope I will never blame someone else because I was wrong. Especially if it's a fictional story.

I'm surprised to read that. You are a member of this forum for long enough to notice that TJLC does have not a big following here. Again, sorry you are disappointed.

Okay, gently, everyone.

I don't know, Aurelie, whether you are the only "TJLC'er" on this forum or not. We have many, many members who rarely or never post, and for all we know they are silently in your court, cheering you on. It's a popular theory, I find it hard to believe that you are the ONLY one who follows it. So take heart, the odds, imo, are very good that you are not alone.

I understand JP's frustration too, though ... as someone who has tried but failed to be convinced by TJLC, I've often wondered why the theory works for some, but not for others ... when the "real" answer seems so "obvious" to me. I think we've all been there ... wondering why everyone else can't see what we see.

I don't have any answers for anyone, except that I recognize that some people are in real distress over this issue ... not just you, Aurelie, or you, JP ... and the only thing I know to do is offer you both a hug, :hugz: a cookie :cookie: and a willingness to hear you out if you think it will help.

Of course it's my opinion. And IMO I have heard, read and saw enough times they denied the Subtext.

Still, if Johnlock should become canon in the end I surely won't trow knifes at anyone. I will laugh my ass off about the joke Moftiss pulled at me. It's a show. It's not real. It's made for entertaining. It - and it's makers - owe us nothing.

It's up to the viewers what they do with their perception, and their own risk.

It has NOTHING to do with that! It's about the writers giving tjlc'ers all those johnlock moments which lead to those wishes. Do you think it's funny to us? Being queerbaited? Can we just have one show where the boy falls in love with a Boy? That's all we're asking for! We want people to stop queerbaiting, that's all we want.

Posted

Fully with you there - well, halfway ... I'm not a Johnlocker, but I do find the whole "toying with it, then denying anything had happened" cycle somewhat tiring. But much as I hate to say that, I don't see the baiting stopping any time soon, since a] Moftiss seem to be really fond of it and b] well aware that the Johnlock tension is what draws in a substantial amount of their fanbase (note: yes, Johnlockers are in the minority on this particular forum, but go look on tumblr, or most any other Sherlock place, really).

None of us can read minds (as far as I'm aware of, anyway ) so none can predict where this show will lead. But while I'd personally be okay with Johnlock becoming reality (no horse in that race, really, and anyway it can't be worse than John/Mary imo) I dare predict that if you keep watching Sherlock and hoping for it to happen, you'll be in for a disappointment season after season (so at least, only once a decade or so :P). Maybe, dunno, Torchwood would be a better show if you're looking for a straight-identifying man discovering that one particular man makes his heart flutter?

Sure you can, just search anime tagged with 'shounen ai' or 'yaoi' if you wants to see more than just love in the romantic sense.

I am a Mystrade fan and probably the only one who actively write on this forum at this period. I can create a thousand variations of romantic relationship between them but the fact still remains that despite the indication that Greg Lestrade is working with / for Mycroft Holmes and already do so for sometime before the Hound of Baskerville, they never clearly have relationship of the kind that my wishful mind would like to see on the screen. *shrugs* It is either I adjust my own expectations or keep getting headaches because of the inconvenience called emotional rollercoaster. I choose the first option because there are many more more important things that needs my attention besides a mere TV show, things like how to keep roof upon my head and to keep my dogs well-fed and healthy. You see, the area where I currently live on is one of the hot spots of racial tensions, religious extremism and economic gap. I am standing on top of a mountain of powder keg but so what? I believe that I have power to shape my own future. I am not a victim, problems are exist for me to overcome and the day I stop trying to win is the day my soul leave this mortal shell.
