Freezing cold showers in winter? Nasty

I was without hot water for a few days in November once, so I can certainly sympathize!  As I recall, I heated water on the stove and used that to wash myself up a bit.

Freezing cold showers in winter? Nasty

It is, I'm lucky because I can shower at my work. My mom isn't. But luckily, an acquaintance of my mom fixed it.

Okay, it's been almost ten years and frigging National Geographic is still sending me brochure and subscription forms. I had only subscribed once, ONCE! For a year about a decade ago, and they keep sending those thick envelopes with lots, lots of paper, twice or more yearly.

For the content and reputation that they have, shouldn't they be more environmental friendly or those thingy?

I have unsubscribed officially, I had even emailed to them to stop their junk mail, I had even written in the Facebook page couple of years ago when I was stil active, I haven't even stayed in that address for four years!

Geez.

I have the same sort of relationship with The Nature Conservancy. You'd think they'd take the hint. :P Eventually.

Ha! The Nature Conservancy. So much for that eh..

Ten years and counting. I guess the only way for me to make it stop is find the one who is in charge of those subscription spam, get into his/her inner circle, be invited to their party, and show up wearing only Nat Geo fleece jacket (that I got with my subscription back then) together with a cart load full of paper they wasted and dump them in the middle of the party hall, threaten to take off and return my fleece jacket on the spot, right then and there, or.... stop sending me spam. :P

Question to all of you who use desktop/laptop, or anything other than phone.

So once in a blue moon, like now, I visit the forum with the luxury of laptop/desktop, but I notice that every single time it does it. So while I'm typing, the sentence doesn't fit into the window of the post, but it would continue until the sentence ends. It's very annoying especially when I need to edit the post for typo, I need to press the arrow or drag the bar to the right until I find the word. I can copy paste a post in Word, that could be the solution, but why this is more inconvenient than using my phone?

So this is how my post look like before I post/during edit. It basically consists of only three sentences, and I need to scroll to the right to see the rest of what I am actually saying. Is it happen to all of you too? (But as you can see, today its's actually kind enough to give me all the editing tools, unlike other days.

Geez, not sure why the screencap is so yellowish, my monitor's color balance is perfectly fine.

Uh, when you say about taking off the fleece jacket, will you be wearing anything under it? Is that part of the threat?

Nope, mind doesn't do that and I'm on a laptop. I think I've had it happen once or twice but when I refresh the page it's fine.

If you reread my post, I did say wearing 'only' XD

Yes, it's part of the thread, although I never actually considered..eh.. that it might not work well...

Okay, another prove that the machines are out to get me. :P

My laptop does that (fails to wrap the lines) if I'm in the basic editor mode, but not if I'm in full-feature mode. (I'm currently on my phone, so can't see your screenshot well enough to tell which you're using.)

Try to click the "power button" in upper left corner of the editing bar (or whatever you call it). It switches between wysiwyg and code editor modus. If your text in the frame is a typewriter font, you are in editor modus, otherwise you see your text with italics and bolds and whatever features you apply to it.

VBS, what browser is on your laptop? That only happened to me when I was using Firefox, which is another reason I don't like using it.

Explorer 10 and 11 will word wrap just fine, but you can't use most of the formatting functions with them (such as quote or spoiler), you have to type the code in yourself. :(

Currently I'm using Edge, and now that I'm used to it, it works fine. I haven't tried Chrome; I had a bad experience with Google years ago, and have tried to stay clear of anything to do with them ever since. But I suspect it would work fine too.

If you happen to be using Firefox, I understand you can modify it so it will word wrap in plain text mode ... but that took a whole level of expertise that I don't care to have, so I simply switched browsers.

... while I just switch back and forth between WYSIWYG mode and simple edit mode, depending on what features I need.  Several of the standard features don't work for me in fancy-editor mode.  For example, if I want to quote somebody and then add my reply below the quote, I sometimes need to go into basic mode.  Deleting certain things within a quote box is easier that way also.  But I use Firefox, so if I want the wrap feature, I have to switch back into full-editor mode for the fine-tuning.

P.S.:  I call it the light switch.  In any case, that square button at the left end of the upper row in the edit/reply toolbar will switch you between the fancy full editor and the simple basic editor.

I'm using Chrome and everything works fine.

I get the impression Chrome more or less sets the standard these days.

I swear by Firefox and so far, it has worked fine with the forum (knock on wood).

I too use Firefox, and my only gripe is that while I'm in the no-frills editor mode, the lines do not currently wrap -- i.e., it makes one long line out of each paragraph until I switch into the full-feature editor mode. I've been told that this is due to Firefox adopting a new industry standard that the forum software does not yet compensate for, so presumably the next major software rev will fix the problem.

Alright, sneaking in to test with my office's desktop again. I'm using Chrome most of the time, both laptop and desktop. Use regular built-in browser on my phone.
Nah, it still give me the same problem.

@J.P, I always use the editor function, because most of the time the shortcuts for editing tools don't appear (on three devices) so I get used to memorizing the code instead of relying on shortcut.
I'm not sure if the wrap works well in the 'fancy/non editor' function, the one when you have all the shortcuts above the post, because apparently, most of the time they don't appear in my devices.
Maybe I just have to accept that I always have these kind of problems; enough to annoy me, but not enough to deter me from coming here. :P

Okay then, let's rant again.

I don't really care about what I eat, so I don't go for fancy but more for practicality. And when I'm not on the way somewhere, I buy takeaways.
So, for a handful of place I patronize, there are similarities; quiet, have minimum businesses, they just happen to be on my way home and they cook fast (my main criteria for takeaway). But apparently, they always make the same mistakes. (I am talking about couple of different places).

Like yesterday, the place is totally empty. Three staffs (three!) attended to me, and still, when I got home, again, they got my order wrong/missing. (I ordered side and somehow they almost always forget) Sometimes I remember to check, but most of the time when I forget, they forget as well. Oh yes, of course they received the payment.
This happens to the point that it irritates me a lot. They have one frigging order, and mess up more than half the time.
Same thing can be said with McDonalds, there were probably  almost half the time they get my order 'slightly wrong', like when I order Sausage McMuffin with Egg, it comes without Egg, and they actually have another meal Sausage McMuffin (without egg). Hmmmphhh

OK, you say that you do NOT get the "shortcut" buttons above the edit/reply box on any of your three internet devices. That's what I get on my cellphone (regardless of whether I'm using Full Mode or Mobile Mode). I just wonder if it somehow thinks you're always on your phone.

What theme are you using?

Places that can't get my order right quickly stop being my favorite places.

Two of my favorite restaurants changed chefs, and now they're not any good any more. Arrrgghh! That's one advantage to fast food places ... the food stays the same no matter who the staff is. That's also the disadvantage.

I don't subscribe to the 'I'm a girl and therefore weak and feeble' philosophy, but when a courier delivers three boxes that are so heavy I literally can not pick them up it would be nice if he offered to carry them into the office rather than leaving them just an inch inside of the main door.

:-D Not saying your courier is like that (he is probably just thoughtless), but it seems to me that for some men, this kind of behavior is a passive-aggressive protest against feminism. As if our demand for equal rights was somehow invalidated by our on average lower muscle mass. My favorite solution in such situations is to find other women to help me out. Two girls can usually lift the same weight as one guy. But if there's nobody around, I am certainly not above playing damsel in distress for the next old-fashioned gentleman who comes my way. Go with what works... :-D

/+I remember reading an article one time about a couple of guys who saw a couple of women out in their yard building something, and truly didn't know whether it was okay to offer their help or not. Would it be considered a friendly act, or would it be regarded as sexism? If it had been two other guys, they said they would have offered to help without thinking about it.

Finally, one of the guys decided to go ahead and offer to help ... and the women rather curtly turned him down. So the reporter went and talked to them too, and they said yes, they thought it was rather sexist of the guy to offer. But after they talked to the reporter they felt a little bad; they thought maybe they'd over-reacted. But also they really, really wanted to do the project themselves, just to prove they could "without a man's help."

It can be difficult to communicate with each other these days, can't it?
