What other TV shows do you watch?

I dunno. Some of the balls looked like Saturn, sun and Jupiter.

But thinking that he was studying solar system is obviously a ridiculous deduction.

I mean, it's not a rocket science and you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to know about that...................uh....wait....

Well, after VBS mentioning Patrick Melrose I decided to watch my way through it today, and I actually really enjoyed it. The accent in the beginning took some getting used to, though I'm guessing from our previous conversations on British accents the difference may not have been noticeable to people outside of Britain, but I did eventually get used to it and it did soften more towards his normal accent in the later episodes. Episode one there were a fair few funny bits, episode two was harrowing. I think he'd be pretty good in a comedy, there were quite a few occasions when just his expressions were enough to make me laugh.

His euphorically high moments were horribly tempting. But then there were plenty of lows to counteract it.

I liked it enough that I'm actually motivated to give the books a try … but I can't find them in either the library or the used book store. Which means braving the terrors of eBay or -gulp- paying full price somewhere. Haven't gotten quite that motivated yet.

Yes I certainly cackled at some scene, and this otter unknown bloke is indeed a very talented actor. He did all those crazy stuff, expression and blow up almost all by himself in episode one. My criticism of episode one is only because it doesn't really throw me more baits beside some unanswered questions that at this points seem very obvious, too obvious to hide that dragging it annoys me a bit (I could be wrong, I hope so). Good pilot recipe that works for me is throwing a lot of mysteries, answer some (obvious or the most mysterious one) and add more baits. Don't make it easy to walk away from episode one when viewers are not attached yet to the character. I'll be weary to proceed thinking that it'd be emotional drama, not sure if I'm willing to suffer together with the character yet before knowing deeper about them.

But two of you seem happy with it so I'll give it a go. It doesn't hurt looking at him as well, or hearing that voice. It has been too long!!! :P

I think it is an emotional drama, but is a lot more engaging than I usually find such things. He's barely in episode two, it's all about him when he was little which is why it's so wrenching. I don't think the point is to hide what happened to him, as you said you can guess from the start, but it's not about the mystery so much as how it messes him up.

At risk of lowering the tone, in the scene when his son jumps on him when he's in bed am I the only one who thought he had, er, rather impressive morning wood? I thought it was supposed to be a joke, but then it was never mentioned, and when he does finally roll over onto his back it's revealed as a crease in his pajamas. Seriously it looks VERY morning wood like.

The kid who plays him would have been a better young Sherlock imho. He has a vulnerability that I felt the boy who played Sherlock was missing.

Aren’t they on Amazon?

Probably, but that's what I mean by paying full price, which I'd rather not do.

And did anyone else find his son really annoying?

Not really. I rather identified with him, poor kid.

I think I haven't got to the scene you mentioned.

I'm at episode 3 but don't know what happens at the end because it kept buffering and load only a couple of seconds at a time that I fell asleep.

It has been happening with ep 2 and 3. It would give me good smooth watching for half an episode, then it would start to lag but still loads and with about twenty percent left at the end it would lag so much that I barely got couple of seconds every few minutes. I'm worry that I would take a way out while I still can, but I'm curious. If only my internet cooperates with me.

Anyway,

I really hate his mother in episode 2. I know she is not solely to blame, but she is certainly doesn't do anything but keep giving false promises which is something I hate the most.

Also, in ep 3,  I can't imagine being forced to attend that party. With that kind of mood, that kind of party and that lousy refreshment and entitled a**holic what? princess??? Good god I would get drunk, sniff sugar and half murder someone!!

Ditto. I believe that's why the word "ghastly" was invented.

Finished Bodyguard... apparently it's the most watched BBC drama since 2008, everyone is going nuts over it. I don't know how I feel about the ending, I watched it in two 3-hour (3 episode) chunks and I think I preferred the first 3 to the last 3. Keep your eyes peeled though, it's been such a hit I imagine it'll be syndicated out to other countries pretty quickly.

Yeah, I just heard a day or three ago that it will be on Netflix. I have to admit, the description didn't really appeal to me.

In regards to Patrick Melrose:

I found the mom too weak to stand up to her husband with regards to taking care of their son.  Her promises ended up being empty unintentionally.  Both of Patrick's parents were messed up with drugs and alcohol to varying degrees of each (he more the alcoholic, she more the druggie).  Mom disinheriting her son because she felt like it was a low blow.

Did you respond to mother or party?

I can share sugar with you but we have to beat up different people. Two halves make a one, and I don't want to get us into trouble, as far as I know, our brothers will not be as useful as Mycroft to get us out of certain situations. Mine is pretty much useless in that department, which is probably a good thing. :P

I can't remember much about the description...? It's mostly about terrorism and Richard Madden being hot but messed up. There's a whiff of the John Watson about him at times, though that's probably just the scarred, PTSD soldier element. There is also an extremely diverse cast, which is good to see.

Both.

My brother wouldn't be any use in that situation either. Which is definitely a good thing.

I can't remember much about it either, but you're description doesn't work for me either. :D I think it's the "terrorism" part … too relevant. I like my adventure shows fun rather than serious, I guess.

Me too.  If I wanted to see terrorism (which I'd generally rather not), I'd watch the news.

In fact, I don't much see the point of watching any show unless it's fun and/or mentally challenging (like a whodunnit) and/or heartwarming.  Come to think of it, that probably explains why I like The Librarians.  It's not a great show (e.g., not as good as Leverage, from the same production team), but it's pretty good on all three counts.
