Okay, now I know why S leaved the party. He seemed terrified by the singing.  :P

 I think I would have left too!

I "Liked" that because your description sounds cool, but now I can't get it to work. Is it just me?

It's still working for me, the link to the tumblr page and the video.  Is it just the video on the page that isn't working or is it the link?

Well, it's working fine for me now.  But the other time, the link worked and the page seemed to load find, but when I clicked the video, nothing happened.  I believe I even tried reloading this page and doing the whole thing from scratch.  But no problem now.  Thanks!

I'd just like to know how they got the music out when it was already fused to the film...

I would love to be able to do that when I'm watching TV & movies.  Nowadays the music is often louder than the dialog, so I have trouble understanding what people are saying.  I can still understand older shows and movies just fine.

Every once in awhile I run into the music too loud for the dialogue.  There are times where it is meant to be louder on purpose such as stag night when Sherlock is pointing John in the direction of the loo.  I used to work at a book store in college and I had a customer once complain that the instruments were louder than the vocals making it near impossible for him to understand what the people were singing.  He was also older. (FYI you are not considered old in my book until sometime after age 90.)  If he had been my age or still had really good hearing, then it might not have been an issue for most songs.

Interesting that when Sherlock makes the extra "erectile dysfunction" comment prereception and says that it was one more deduction than he was planning to make.  The only reason this was thrown in was to get away with the second time he makes the extra deduction - about Mary's pregnancy.

Which is funny because I would've bought the second one without the first one! After that and the expectant father in TEH, I was beginning to think Sherlock was turning into a clairvoyant. (CAM proved otherwise..... )

Definitely that TEH about the contractions starting was more clairvoyant than based on visual/observable perception.  They just like to throw in fun oddball bits like that for a quick laugh.

The erectile dysfunction bit is definitely one of those "how can he possibly know that" bits, but then, perhaps Sherlock researched the guy beforehand. He seems to have done some thorough vetting on the wedding guests, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

I suspect some sort of "male in-joke" connected with the cowboy boots. I'd google it but I'm afraid of what I might find. :D

... or a sly reference to the macho men in the ED-drug commercials?

The thought did occur. :/

Was just playing around with gifs.

What about you?

Grown up Sherlock at the wedding.

Are those gifs moving too fast? (there are some differences between browsers and systems)

BTW, something that bothers me the most in SoT is the lightning during the speech. The set seems to be overexposed, which makes Sherlock look strange, to say the least.

He is strange! :p

Those gifs are moving at just about the right speed for me, but I have seen others that go so fast I can't follow them.

I meant strange even for Sherlock.

Added one more.

I think it is the fist time he reacts so natural to physical contact. With except of Mary he always froze when being hugged and looked quite helpless.

And that scene is why I absolutely can't watch TSoT.  I almost never have the "aw, poor Sherlock" response, but the whole bit with Mary's pregnancy and sending John and Mary off to dance gives me a lump in my throat.  The guy has just worked so hard making this the best wedding he can for his friends, and then he's left standing there with those disco lights flashing all around him and that downhearted expression like someone who went stag to the prom.

It gets worse the more I import ACD canon.  Holmes and Watson didn't really have an entire lifetime of spending time in each other's company.  Watson got married and ultimately Holmes retired to Sussex Downs to live as a hermit.  The wonderful days of their friendship were not a permanent condition for them, and, in the moment of John and Mary's wedding, I can just feel the fear that the friendship will slip away.

To me there is such sadness in the moment he sends John and Mary off to dance.  He's not sad for them nor pining for John, but John and Mary have moved to a different stage of their lives and that's not something that they can entirely share with him.

Even more so, Sherlock has risen to the challenge for the day and is still in the lingering effects of not being entirely unsociable... and he looks around to see if Janine is available to dance...he's hoping to dance, but she's not available, and Molly's not available.  Not even Mrs. Hudson.  He is the odd man out when for a moment he didn't want to be.  And that's what's sad...that he had a brief hope for something as simple as a dance with a woman he'd made friends with and it was dashed.  Everyone seems to have someone, and he is ultimately alone.

Only Molly seems to see him leave, but leave he does.  Alone.

Yah, this scene is one reason TSo3 is one of my favorite episodes. Bittersweet, when he sends John and Mary off to dance. That's such a moment of growth for Sherlock (the boy can learn!) But when he realizes no one else has room for him either .... aggghghgh. Feels! Rats, now I feel like crying and I have to go to work..... :(

I guess it is, really, one of the reasons the scene is so effective.  Everyone, no matter who you are, has had a time when they felt like odd man out, and that makes Sherlock very easy to identify with here.

Feeling like an odd one out around people almost constantly, I can so relate to that scene.

He is so beautiful here showing his heart, and it feels like he's instantly punished for that. This is so unfair, even if it is nobody's fault.

And this is what Mycroft was warning him about.

And I love Mary for she is the only one who seems to understand and shows her concern. Gotta love that Mary, no matter her past.

Something different: I was a little bit amazed by the amount of people who came to the wedding. Because John seemed not to have any relatives beside Harry, who didn't show. So apart from the old gang, the rest of guests must have been Mary's friends, which she found in the last 5 years. It's quite a bunch. I doubt I have known so many people in my entire life (outside of the job of course).

Plus Lestrade came alone, which meant Sherlock was right at the Horror Christmas Party in SiB. :)

Exactly! In the original, I think they had no more than roughly ten years together in all. And do you want to be made even more sad? Holmes retiring and becoming a hermit coincides with Watson's second (? in any way last that we know of) marriage in 1893.

Yes, it does. Very easy. I love the scene where he leaves the party. It is perfect. Talk about glorifying and everyday experience. I'll have to practice that coat swirl.

Of course he was right. Sherlock is always right, which is what makes his remarks often so cruel. But he doesn't mean to be cruel. I think to his own mind, he's just pointing out the obvious - and how it make anything better if something isn't mentioned that is true anyway?

Yes, when I think about where ACD canon could take us, it makes me pretty sad.  So, in my own mind, I mute the ACD canon to say that Sherlock winds up living "like a hermit" by which we could mean on the outskirts of a small town with, perhaps, a partner.  I'm on board for a second John wedding and his return to full time medical practice, even though it would mean ultimately losing Mary, but I do hope he stays in better touch with Sherlock than Watson apparently did with Holmes.  I mean, hey, we have email; we have Skype.  It should be easier, right?
