Can't really disagree with his analysis. :( (And nobody ever claimed he was a diplomat.)

You can say that again.

Yeesh, I thought we were already at the highest terror threat level, but no, it's now been raised to critical meaning they think there is another attack imminent and troops are being deployed.

The same happened to Belgium when there was a terrorist attack in Brussel, and if there's one thing that I can't stand it's the presence of big guns.

Yea, me too. I went to a rugby game the day after Boxing day and there were cops wandering around with big guns, likely anti-terrorism, and it actually makes me feel less safe not more.

Reminds me of the time I went to a football match with my colleagues, there were cops on horses! Didn't make me feel safe in the slightest.

Probably the better way to make people feel safe at an event is to have plain clothes officers there blending in with a few in uniform.

Be tricky with the guns though. Which I suppose they do actually need. We don't have many armed police in this country, so seeing ones with guns around events is particularly alarming. It always makes me uneasy when I go to other countries and see most of the cops have guns. I suppose it's safer in the long run but still feels a bit iffy.

Like going to the airport and seeing soldiers with assault rifles patrolling the halls. Assault rifles!!!!! What were they going to do if someone bolted, spray the crowd with bullets? That would do the terrorists job for them quite nicely.

Plainclothes cops with guns would make me even more anxious, since I wouldn't be able to tell them from the regular good ol' boys with guns. We have a few around here. I've often wondered what they would say if I described to them how d**ned silly they look. Don't, though, afraid they'll turn out to be a home grown terrorist and shoot me.

Sorry. Incidents like this make me bitter. But all our cops have guns, so I should be used to it, but no, it does not make me feel safer when I see them at events with large crowds. Far from it.

Slightly off topic, but I have this tub of Sudocream, which is an antiseptic cream you can put on wounds etc. I have been putting it on my various cuts and scrapes, but yesterday I checked the 'use by' date, and it was TWENTY ONE years ago! 1996!  :o

Ahhh, so this explains why Pseud is the way she is. We should have known. :p

I do seem to have become progressively more hideous and more insane the more I've used it.

It seems to have seeped into your brain and taken over. It's even re-named you after itself.

Eek - we've been communicating with a sentient tub of antiseptic cream!

Oh dear, a lot of reports over how furious Manchester police and the Home Secretary are with US media. Does it mention anything about it in America?

It was mentioned, but not, as I recall, in detail. There was a great deal of reporting on the attack itself, but I haven't heard yet if any of that reporting involved the sensitive material in question.

I only just got that. God I'm slow.

Yes, I believe that is a known consequence of turning into a tub of antiseptic cream. :p
