As you know, if you have an account with IMDB (I have had an account since 1998 and have made many corrections/additions there), ANYONE with an account can make additions/changes.  This is both good and bad... bad when people post stuff that's not true.

So if you look at Sherlock S4.1, you will see names that aren't confirmed or released by Hartswood/BBC.  Nor do I think they will be.  I don't think it will be accurate until after it airs.  Any minor or guest actors will be kept totally hush hush.  That stuff is posted by over-eager fandom.  Please disregard.

Also, I do know that Amanda Abbington was at the table read for 4.1 and she's not officially listed.  Louise Brealey missed the table read as she was in Australia.  Una Stubbs and Rupert Graves are not mentioned and should be as they are regulars.  But as I said... any NEW characters or returning characters are complete speculation...with perhaps the exception being Andrew Scott as they will tie that up quickly.  They can use older footage of him, however, and he'll still get credited in the show.  But as I think the whole "Moriarty is back" thing is a ruse to keep Sherlock in the country, I doubt we'll see much of him if any at all.

The point is... some of the fandom is starting to get a bit wacko with speculation and false information on IMDB.  Lara Pulver isn't speaking about it, Andrew Scott isn't speaking about it, and Tom Hiddleston - the biggeest rumor of all - is not speaking about it.  Nor will they comment one way or the other.

Quite true. Those who've been here since the "Empty Hearse" read-through may recall Tomi May's quickly-deleted tweet regarding his own participation.  Even though the post said nothing about his role (which turned out to be the Serbian torture guy), he was apparently asked to remove it. They keep everything as hush-hush as possible.

Of course there's nothing wrong with honest speculation, as long as we don't confuse it with information.

I think it's mostly Tumblr and Twitter fandom that stir up the rumors into frenzy.

However, anyone who is involved with Sherlock is sworn to secrecy.  I'm surprised Amanda Abbington even got away with posting a couple of pics from the table read.  I'm sure she ran them by Hartswood first, however,

100% rumor mill, I'd say, I don't think there's a single quote in there I haven't already read somewhere else. Although maybe the release date will indeed not be until 2017 in the land of the morning calm. :p

Well, I think that the article is quite wrong because the last update on Dr. Strange I heard was that it was being released in 2017 not 2016.  These release dates are sort of set in stone for the most part unless something major happens.

This is why I think we will still see S4 in 2016.  I also know that The Lost City of Z has been postponed several times, but it's going to come to a point where BC will have to bow out if that film can't get it's schedule together because BC does have other obligations, not the least of which is Hamlet, which IS set firmly in stone.  So, that being said, I am thinking that S4 shooting will happen AFTER Hamlet, and once it's in the can, the release dates of that have nothing to do with BC's schedule but with the BBC.  So... 2016.

I have to admit I don't mind if "Z" never gets made as it sounds like a real downer..... just once I'd like to see a movie with BC where he isn't dead at the end..... :P

And before anyone rushes to make a list, yes, I know he doesn't die in every movie he's made. It just seems that way!

I'll be surprised if this gets made with him.

That article is merely quoting an earlier article (which didn't impress me either).

My best guess is that the "Christmas" special will air on January 1, 2016.  The past two series of Sherlock have started on New Year's Day and have done well, so I expect them to stick with that tradition.  And if they do, then I fully expect that Series 4 will begin airing on January 1, 2017 -- assuming it's ready in time.

Be still my heart... maybe I can get a few more SH novels done before then... not really my plan but if they're going to be pokey about it...

Interesting.  That really does seem to have been posted on YouTube by the BBC itself.  And it does say 2015.  And it does have about two seconds of Sherlock.  Dare we hope that the BBC will actually air the Christmas special on Christmas Day?

And dare we even dream that PBS will do likewise?
