So we'll combine :sherlock2: 's pout when he says took his skull with his "bored" streak & subsequent flop onto the couch followed a bit later by his pushing of the magazine and turning so his back is to the room as he curls up into a ball on the sofa.

I think I would be less disappointed about season 4 if I hadn't originally believed that it would air in early 2016. Also, I'm still very torn about the whole Victorian one-off episode.

You remind me of a story a friend told me.  One evening when her son was, I think, around three years old, he asked her for a cookie.  She said, "But you and Daddy ate all the cookies."  And he replied, "But I WANT some!!"  [We're in dire need of a tantrum emotie here.]

 

I think I would be less disappointed about season 4 if I hadn't originally believed that it would air in early 2016. Also, I'm still very torn about the whole Victorian one-off episode.

 

First people were worried that a modern-day Sherlock Holmes just wouldn't be the same.  Now they're worried that a Victorian Sherlock Holmes just won't be the same.  ;)   But in either case, doesn't it all depend on what they've actually done with the story?  And we'll find out in roughly nine months (which does seem appropriate, since two of the characters and one of the actors are expecting a baby).

Thanks for the Linus tantrum thing! You have just forcibly reminded me that I do not need to vent my frustration at anyone, I shall just grab a Granada DVD ( JB being my Linus blanket) or watch an episode of the Sheldon Reynolds series, take a deep breath and thus not be in danger of biting a poor friend's or colleague's heads off when they cannot understand why I am so frustrated by what is turning from a hiatus to simple hibernation!

What looks likely (based on Ms. Abbington's comment) is the Christmas Special this coming December/January, and Series 4 a year later.
 

After Series One, 18-month wait for Series Two (3 episodes) = 6 months per episode
After Series Two, 2-year wait for Series Three (3 episodes) = 8 months per episode
After Series Three, probable 3-year wait for Special plus Series Four (4 episodes total) = 9 months per episode

 
 So it's gradually dragging out, but so far it's probably only 50% worse than the Series One-to-Two gap.

Ooorrr... they're doubling the addition to the previous hiatus every time (discounting the Christmas special)

 

6 months extra in the hiatus (18 mos. - 2 yrs.)

12 months extra in the hiatus (2 yrs. - 3 yrs.)

so we should assume an extra 24 months will be added to the 3 years, so the hiatus between 4 and 5 should be expected to be 5 yrs.

ETA:  so series 5 should air around 2022.  lol

That means we'll get S5 when my son is a freshman in university if it airs at the beginning of the year or a sophomore if it ends up being summer/fall of that year.

If they film it April-June 2016 then there is a distinct possibility they will go for a summer slot, thus going full circle to S1, which is the optimistic version! But if they keep drawing out the time in between, everybody should get used to Benedict's slicker hair, like in the Special, definitely no more curls by 2022!
