Wow, that's quite a different American accent than the one he used as Doctor Strange!

Edison was born in Ohio but grew up in Michigan, and yeah, that does sound kinda like some Michigan accents that I've heard. Of course (unlike the real Doctor Strange) the real Thomas Edison left recordings of his voice (having also invented the phonograph), so BC presumably based his accent on those.

Ditto. I'm hoping it comes to the US on something I can watch.

Funny, isn't it, how anxious we are to have our hearts broken. ;)

I just looked up Child In Time on IMDb and if the info's correct, Masterpiece is Orr of the production so we in the US are likely to get it at some point on PBS. Squee :)

Yep, it's confirmed (sorry, forgot to make note of where) Child in Time will be on PBS sometime next year. Also I see Melrose is supposed to be on (booo) Showtime.

Here's a little blurb of BC talking about Child in Time. Urk, it's going to be heartbreaking......

Does anyone know if BC will be at the Emmys tomorrow?

Well, I went back found the article, recopied the link but I get a feeling it's exactly the same as before, so I don't know where it's going wrong.

The only interesting bit really was where they seemed like they were trying to prod him into creating a female Sherlock.

At the time we speak, it's just been announced that Jodie Whittaker is taking on the lead role in Doctor Who - the first woman to do so.

Cumberbatch is thrilled about this and says he can't wait to see her performance. "It's an alien - why can't it be a woman?" he says.

"Why can't it be any gender? I think she's an extraordinary actress and we're lucky culturally to have got her to agree to do it. Just go for it - let's see what happens."

Would he be just as up for seeing a female Sherlock? "Why not? I don't care," he says, adding tongue-in-cheek: "Sherlockina - it's coming to you soon."

SunnyMarch, he points out, has a lot of plans for improving diversity and "giving a bolder place for women both behind and in front of the camera." Watch this space.

It's not going to happen anytime soon, but I'd like to see a female Sherlock, but it would have to be done exactly right not to be too cringeworthy. It seems like something that could go horribly wrong a bit too easily. I'd like to see it with a similar age starting point as this Sherlock, early thirties, and I have no idea who I could see playing Sherlock-is-a-girl's-name.

I want to watch that Korean (?) show that has a female Sherlock and see how that comes out.

Pseud, your second link works fine for me.

Regarding The Current War -- according to the Tonight Show interview, the three main characters are Edison, Westinghouse, and Tesla.  After nosing around online a bit, I have concluded that they selected those particular leads simply because they were the most outspoken and the most well known -- not because they were actually the most influential.  There were quite a number of others involved, but most of them were nerdy fellows who'd rather putter around in their labs than toot their own horns.

So -- as with The Imitation Game -- take this movie as an approximation of *what* happened, rather than a accurate depiction of *how* it happened.

Wasn't Tesla actually hugely anti-social and had no interest in playing the game? I would have liked a film just about Tesla tbh, I doubt I'll watch this but I would have watched that.

Depends on whose accounts you're reading, I guess.  According to one site I saw, he was a huge credit claimer and publicity hog.  That isn't necessarily inconsistent with antisocial, though.
