Thank you, sfmpco, that was brilliant! While some go for the curly mop (ugh) and some go for the eyes (wonder why, would they fall for the incredibly handsome villain, Count Ignatieff, whose descendant  lives in London, and has  the same condition in Flashman?) I always go for the voice.

I can see a one-shot special or two further down the road, though. You know, when they're in their 80's or something. Of course, half the fans will have passed on by then but still.... :P

I am sorry...really, where has all this speculation come from?

Every interview I've ever heard/seen has the whole Sherlock team saying they want to do this for ever.

Please, can anybody provide a link or cite where this alternate view has emerged from?

Incidentally, why would anybody want it to stop?

Because this is not Granada in the 80s, committed to do as perfect a series of real ACD episodes as humanly possible, the pay scales were much more reasonable back then, and  I keep saying that both of them are getting older to do the stuff their younger fan base would like to see them do, and because it is

I am certain Mark and Steven will not disappoint and they actually haven't done any of my favourite stories yet!

Still, I'm at least glad there isn't some new, vital interview I had somehow missed...

It's dangerous to speculate!

OK, so let's speculate a bit, besleybean; they have done A Study in Scarlet, they have subdivided The Valley of Fear into several episodes, The Speckled Band was a throwaway joke in Scandal, although I have argued elsewhere how it could have been hidden in HLV, the same goes for the Illustrious Client, they used the beginning of The Blanched Soldier in SoT with a sprinkling from The Sign of the Four, and his interrogation of Mrs Minford in the Great Game comes straight from the Sign of the Four and his handling of Mrs Smith, The Hound got its separate episode, The Final Problem and The Empty House got reworked in the Fall and TEH, not to mention SiP, which is how John saves Sherlock's life. In  TEH incidentally,  they upgraded the killer to a lord. There is the whole race-track world left from The Silver Blaze and Shoscombe Old Place. How can they work on The engineer's Thumb, since it was also thrown away in Scandal, The Naval Treaty, as they threw it away for the deerstalker moment in Scandal, they included The Bruce Partington Plans in the Great Game, and The Greek Interpreter in Scandal, The creeping Man became a throwaway line from Sherlock to Molly in TEH, and A case of Identity was worked in both in TEH and SoT, The Man with the Twisted Lip is the beginning of HLV,  The Priory School was the abduction sequence in the Fall, and Charles Augustus Milverton has become Magnusson!  And we should consider the whole Mary Morstan/John Watson marriage as The Noble Bachelor in reverse. Abbey  Grange and The Second Stain are out of the running as firmly rooted  in their period atmosphere.

Which are your favourite stories, anyway?

Please, share, when you can.

They haven't used all of these stories in their entirety yet and I trust the writers, that's what I'm saying...

They did also say they would then go on to their own.

Plus they will make an explicit, public announcement when they are going to stop.

I am certainly expecting to enjoy plenty more good quality TV for a while, yet.

Until i have any evidence to prove the opposite, I am not going to run around with my head in my hands, saying: the end of the world is nigh.

Oh, OK, but as I have explained on the HLV thread, I refuse to take this version seriously any more, so if it is still watchable, I will enjoy it, if not, so be it, I still have all my other favourite detectives on DVD, and the Granada series to fall back on, if they get up to highjinx or substandard quality work, which they came  pretty close to in S3.

Aren't they using non-ACD material, though?  They're pulling from everything Sherlock and considering it all canon, yes?  I don't know the original stories well enough to judge how much material they've used up so far, but if anything that has ever been written/filmed about Sherlock is fair game, that's gotta help as far as material goes.

Yes they are using non-ACD Sherlock stuff because (if I remember correctly) the Moriarty/Sherlock thing with the stairs & violin used in TRF came from a non-ACD Sherlock movie

Whereas I go for the whole package ... :D

If I understand correctly, sometimes they've even used only the title! Leaving an entire story still to be told....

Good heavens, you took it seriously to begin with? :D  How could anything so much fun be serious? It's exciting, dramatic, witty, mind-popping, often hilarious, sometimes gut-wrenching, but I don't think I've ever taken it seriously. I mean, really, the main character is named Sherlock!

Even Mofftiss don't take it all that seriously at times as they have played it for a comedic effect no matter how much they love and refer to the CD canon. I am so looking forward to seeing what they come up with in the future. The game is way to fun to give up any time soon.

Fun, yeah, that's the best word for it. I wouldn't watch it if it weren't.

Yep, that was the Basil Rathbone film The Woman in Green. Don't let's start what they have lifted from where, I have said that all detective stories of that period are grist to their mill.

P. S. Arcadia dear, The Fall and HLV fall into your definition of hilarious?

Nope, those are the parts I find gut-wrenching!

Ben is getting married on Valentines day... it's all over the British press.  He's getting married on the Isle of Wight.

I can say that I have finally seen Starter for Ten tonight. Cinemax had it on demand.  I liked the quirkiness of Benedict's character.

That's lovely. congratulations-happy.gif

Sorry, but I cannot stop thinking who's doing The Best Man for him.  :P

From The People Magazine:

There's also a Cumberbaby on the way: the Sherlock and The Imitation Game actor and theater director are expecting their first child together later this year.

Is it true, him being a director?

The theater director is Sophie not Benedict.

How very predictable and boring! One would have expected something more original from one's favourite contemporary British actor! At any rate, may they Live long and prosper, together with their children and grandchildren.
