Preparations have begun at "221B Baker Street"

Did you notice the comment though? Something about having a Victorian-style "Baker Street" sign in the truck. :wtf:

Yup, see these photos -- a Victorian street sign AND a Victorian post box!  Hey, if it does turn out that the Victorian parts take place inside Sherlock's mind palace, he'd need a base of operations, right?

Yeah, my concern is has series 4 filming been pushed back?

Even though they've been saying "later in the year," what they seemed to mean was "not before November" (due to Cumberbatch having a commitment just before that).  So maybe November, maybe January -- it's only two months' difference.  And that would be two months' difference in the start of filming -- which might make no difference whatsoever in when the series would air -- especially considering that the BBC seems to like showing Sherlock around the holidays.

It is really weird how things come full circle. In the commentary of The Great Game, BC actually says about smoking: "Definitely not a pipe...I can't imagine, it would look really weird" , but there is a pipe in that carriage scene, after all. Perhaps it applies to him as well, what he says in TEH as Sherlock: "Be careful what you wish for", or not, in this case.

I assume he thought it would look weird in a modern setting -- and in this case, that clearly does not apply.

More Victorian setlock:  Speedwell's Restaurant and Tea Room  :D  and Mr Speedwell himself (love that he's actually getting to be in an episode!)

Incidentally, do we know who is directing the Special?

The last I heard, Douglas Mackinnon.

Wait... I don't see those things I listed as being in the special but more of what would happen in S4 if it went wonky.

Onto other actual Special news... little Archie has been seen on set coming out of 221B in proper Victorian attire... Oh yes.  We get little Archie again!  And he hasn't changed that much.

So very happy to see that little fellow again.  I think the fandom responded very favorably to the little guy and rightfully so.  He was a wonderful counterpart to Sherlock.

I know dear sfmpco, that would be a different special, we could never sustain Ms Watson in a series, no matter how good a scriptwriter you may be, the rest of us simply speculate. As for Archie,  he is probably the page, Billy, a part originally played on stage by Charles Chaplin!

Oh, I hope they let him keep his original character name.

Oh my god. It's him! Mr Holmes - he's alive! There's one where I think Benedict Cumberbatch isn't actually in character, but he looks just exactly like I think the original Victorian character should.

I can't wait for that special. Even if it is utterly crazy and adds nothing to the overall plot, I will love it just for the imagery.

Archie! Love that kid. I approve of this development.

I must admit I really don't understand why he's wearing the Inverness cape and deerstalker.  Sherlock didn't wear those in town, only in the country.  I was so looking forward to seeing him in a long coat and top hat like the first picture we saw.  The way they dressed Jeremy Brett!

Really, really happy to see Archie!

Yes, looks like he's going to be a house boy or something.

They seem to have used the name "Billy" already (for Wiggins), so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him playing "Archie the page boy" -- which is coincidentally (?) how he was credited in So3!

More setlock:

I love the Victorian look that this gal gave to a setlock photo of John and Sherlock -- or should I say Watson and Holmes?

We've been seeing greenscreens in the background of some setlock photos -- but here's how the greenscreen actually looks.

This actor plays a character named Giles (who was apparently in some earlier filming, not "Baker Street").

They had the fans corralled down at the corner of Euston Street (alias "York Street") again.  That's definitely Mark Gatiss signing autographs (he was wearing the same outfit in a full-face shot) -- and that kinda looks like Steven Moffat (or at least his hair) next to him, in a rare setlock appearance (though I haven't noticed any explicit mentions of him being there).

On a more somber note, Charlie Phillips, editor for ASiP, TGG, ASiB, THoB, and TEH, passed on a couple of days ago.

Sad that Charlie passed but the setlock pics look interesting.  And that the edit of a setlock photo was cool.

Victorian does not necessarily mean to that pair of scriptwriters what it means to the rest of us. It may all be an elaborate ploy, and since the page boy is carrying suitcases, they may be setting off from Baker Str. for another location, since they have filmed both in Gloucester crypts, cathedral and in Bath, so Mr Holmes may just be setting off on another adventure, which would not necessarily be The Blue carbuncle, as that is entirely set in London. But it is the height of irony, with a touch of hypocrisy, to call older versions "museum pieces" treating the characters with too much reverence, and then proceeding to copy them to minute detail, even to the peculiarly knotted cravat.

Initially and most importantly...very upset to hear about the passing of Charlie.

He was integral to the team and features heavily in The Chronicles.

They will all be devastated at his loss.

On the costume.

I take it that the cape and deerstalker are travelling garb.

I think the boys are off on an adventure...

Hence Archie carrying the luggage.

Oh and there are pictures of Steven and Louis Moffats being on set.

Oh, wow. Yes, I imagine he will be missed sorely. Editors are so overlooked but so crucial to the final outcome. I'm sorry to hear this.
