Of course, in the alternative universe Sherlock gets married to Molly and they have a baby about the same time as the Watsons. That would explain some of the setlock pics, anyway.

Like the one where

(supposedly) Molly is pushing a baby carriage? Well, theoretically, in the Victorian setting she could be a nursemaid or a governess, but I agree it's more likely to be hers - and so Sherlock's (!? :wtf:), unless there's also a Victorian Tom and it went past the engagement stage...

My initial reaction was OMG don't tease me like that!   But then the thought of them married, with a baby, even in this whatever it is setting... eh.  Too ordinary.

Right :D  I forgot about the Sherlolly fans. My sincerest apologies ;)

All kidding aside, I'm still hoping for a more or less traditional Sherlock detective story that's just set in the 19th century. I would have preferred something that picked up from His Last Vow, but that doesn't seem likely to me anymore. That will maybe have to wait until episode 4.1.

Ha. I don't know why this pleases me so much, but some sharp-eyed fan (not me!!) has pointed out that there is a red buttonhole on Sherlock's cape. Check out the last 2-3 photos, here.

What's weird is, I really dislike the term Sherlolly.  Maybe over enough time I'll be willing to embrace it?!

  Literally crying from laughter! Red buttonholes... See, Mofftiss, that's what a two-year hiatus does to your fandom!!!

Totally understand. I think all those sound a bit ridiculous (Sherlolly, Johnlock, Adlock) - and maybe that's your issue; that it doesn't sound serious, but kind of silly instead? Just a thought.

I think he could mean that the Sherlockian geeks won't be disappointed. :)

I believe you're right about that -- especially considering DeCoursey's reply to one comment, "... it was sooooo good. I couldn't help grinning like an idiot when I saw them all on the screen."  (He's the assistant location manager, by the way.)

Wow -- they managed to say even less than Hartswood's been doing!

I'd much rather have a regular 10th episode of the series I fell in love with ... seeing the characters the way they are "supposed" to be.

On the other hand, some people are probably overjoyed about now, because the characters are "finally" the way they are supposed to be!

... I'm not entirely kidding about the idea of an alternative universe. Could be.

I'm just about ready to believe that as well. The mind-palace theory is still a possibility, but some of what we've seen puts it on shaky ground. Hopefully this will all make perfect sense in less than a year!

Just saw a photo from the Bath filming, with the front of a building blocked off by a large white screen.  Wonder what kind of secret scene was being filmed behind that?

The TARDIS.

Given how early in the year filming has wrapped, I'm hopeful that this will be out for Christmas, at least for the UK.   How long is the delay normally between the airing in the UK and the US?

Posted

They usually hope to get a Xmas Special out for Xmas.

Sorry, I am SO sorry...somebody had to say it!

Though I appreciate with Sherlock it could in fact air at New year!

I get that, but if it airs in the UK before Christmas, that's not a guarantee it will air here in the states by then.  It's usually delayed for the states, from what I understand?

I think wasn't BC saying that for S4 he was pushing for joint airing?

Dunno for the Special, though.

There have been delays in the past, yes.  It was about three months with Series 1 and four months with Series 2 -- but only two or three weeks with Series 3.  I think they may be learning!

Apparently the delays were due to the physical mechanisms that PBS was using, so for Series 3 they must have either gotten new equipment or else put a super rush on the project -- or both!  I would dearly love for them to air future episodes more-or-less simultaneously (depending on time zones) in both markets, and with the lead time they're likely to have with the Special, I would hope they'd be able to work that out.

THAT WOULD BE AWESOME (if it aired at the same time)!!!   I was already strategizing how to avoid accidental spoilers on here while the UK folks here reveled in their new ep.   :)

ETA:  the fact that it used be "months" is awful

And that's just between the UK and the US! (Thank goodness for our "special relationship!" :D ) I gather the rest of the world has to wait even longer??

This is also not OK.

I know and of course you are all right and I do support simultaneous broadcasting wherever possible.

But it is a UK show. I wouldn't expect to see a foreign show at the same time as the home country and yeah...avoid named episode threads if you don't want spoilers.

Having said that, my reviews are usually fairly spoiler free...and I was actually late on S3!

If this were some random British program, I would agree -- but Sherlock is now a joint project between the BBC and PBS.  I assume that means it's my tax dollars at work, so I'd like to see a rapid return on that investment!  :D

Sorry, Carol.

You are quite right.

I hadn't considered that.

This is presumably why there is the special relationship!

Wait, it's a joint project now?!  When did that happen?  What is PBS's involvement?  Just financial?

Posted

I think it's just financial, yeh. Although I'm not sure it's much more than paying for airtime rights...?

I imagine PBS will do everything in it's power to get it on the air asap, they know how popular it is. I think Downton Abbey on PBS is running concurrently with the UK airing now, isn't it? (Don't they help fund Downton Abbey, too?)

Maybe we shouldn't be so open about this, some paranoid Senator might find out .... :p

I believe they bought in sometime prior to Series 3 -- our Region 2 (British) DVD package says "coproduced with Masterpiece" (which is the label PBS uses for British programming).

Well, I don't really care when any given Sherlock season airs in my country, because all we get is the dubbed version anyway. What I really want to know is when the DVDs can be imported from the UK. I wonder whether there will be a DVD for the special at all, or whether they'll add it to the series 4 set. I sure hope I can see it sooner than that!

Oh, good heavens -- something else to worry about!  You're right, they might not bother putting just the Special on a DVD.  I wouldn't be surprised to see it available on Amazon as a download -- though maybe not, since the BBC website makes programs available for download, free of charge, for anyone within the UK.  Neither Amazon (US) nor PBS seem to be selling any downloads for Series 1, 2, or 3 -- but wait a minute, the PBS website does offer about a month's worth of Downton Abbey episodes for what may be free download (or just streaming?), and likewise certain other current shows.  (I have no idea whether that's restricted to IP addresses within the US.)  So the Special may be available that way right after it airs.  Or not.
