According to this web site, NC-17 stands for "No Children under 17" -- though according to the MPAA site, that really should read "17 or under."  It's apparently just a new name for the old "X" rating.

it were normal, decent human names. Rupert says it in some of the newer interviews/Q&As, but I don't remember which one.
