Of course Benedict would like to do more Victorian/Edwardian Sherlock: no curls involved!

And from J.P. has said, no Belstaff in warm weather, although he must have been mighty glad of it during S1, when they were filming in near-zero temperatures.

I think that from now it makes no sense to expect any real news about the Special.

“We are aiming for zero cognitive content in our answers today,” Moffat joked while journalists figuratively tore at their hair.

:D So Moffat-ish.

Of his star Benedict Cumberbatch, Moffat said, “I think the population of the earth is going to have to increase before Benedict gets more famous.”

Really nice line, but I'm not so sure. Half a year ago I hardly knew who he was and remembered the name only because it was unusual. I would really like to know how many people on the street know him as a huge star. Movies of huge stars are not shown in off-mainstream small cinemas. Imitation Game was hardly noticed, while Beautiful Mind run as a blockbuster.

Fandoms are like Tardis(es) they seem huge from inside when you are connected with sources and co-fans, but from outside they mostly look like ordinary police booths, hardly noticeable.

Doing my best, Besley!

The Imitation Game was a big deal in the D.C. area, it ran in our theaters long after it disappeared from other parts of the country. Whether it was because of Benedict, though, or something else, I couldn't say ... just thought I'd mention it! :D

I don't get the impression he's a "huge star" either. Not in the Clooney/Hanks/Streep category, at any rate.

Not yet - I hope. Or I hope not, depending on what he wants. Too much fame is a bit not good and I'm perfectly happy with me and you knowing him. :D

Apparently, after Frankenstein he needed 4 hours at the backstage door.

Yeah, but I suspect that's because he was still enjoying the interaction with fans at that point. I don't get the impression he cares to use his time that way anymore. Can't blame him, it must be terribly repetitive, and sometimes intrusive.

And besides, he's got better (and more personal) things to do with his time now.

They ARE trying to drive us to distraction!

I actually believe them in this particular situation.  They really don't know when the Special will air, because the BBC is still trying to decide.  PBS is also holding its collective breath, waiting for the word from the BBC.

I've heard that the BBC likes to fine-tune its holiday schedule right up till nearly the last minute, so they may not announce an air date till sometime in December, maybe even mid-December.

I'm going to watch this on ALL THE THINGS.... in the theater, on BBC America, and PBS.  Just b/c I can.

Movie theater and PBS, yes.  But I don't believe Sherlock is shown on BBC America (because PBS already had the American rights to it).

I have this mad hope that maybe they'll show it in cinemas, and not just in the UK. Since I didn't manage to snag a ticket to the Hamlet broadcast actually near me before they were all sold out (that's something for the rant thread once I've gotten over it enough to dwell on it without blowing a fuse), I would be all the more excited if fate made it up to me somehow by letting me see a Sherlock episode in a movie theater, even if it were this mad Victorian special... thing.

Oh, see... I've only had BBC since yesterday so I had no idea.  I am excited to get caught up on Doctor Who, though!

Yes, they really are planning to show it in movie theaters, and no, not just in the UK.  Moffat says "around the world," whatever that may mean!

Actually, BBC America may show it as well, at least eventually.  I had forgotten about this.

I know they showed Season 3, I just can't remember if it was simultaneously with PBS or a bit later. If it was later, it wasn't much later. And they apparently showed S1 a few months back but stopped there? Don't know, as I don't get BBCA any more. (As I have access to no less than 4 different PBS stations, who needs it? :D )

Yes, but do your precious PBS stations show Star Trek: The Next Generation?  Or Top Gear?  :P

No, but who needs them, either?

By the way, if you REALLY want to see me gloat... we have WETA UK here, which is 100% UK programs, 24/7. Booyah.  :cowdance:

Well, of course it's your area that has WETA UK, because WETA is your local PBS station.  So -- you can get Top Gear 'round the clock, then?  ;)

Only if I "upgrade" my cable service to include BBCA!

Maybe except this sentence:

"Obviously everybody wants it more often and more of them but we are actually on the air for such a short amount of time, it makes it special, I think."

:D
