Yes, I kind of thought he may be in The Special...but what do we feel about S4?

Maybe just flashbacks etc, like in S3?

We'll just have to wait I guess.

Does anybody has an idea about the hint ghost?

Oh, my beeping gosh! smilie_happy_251.gif

Thanks goodness I'm still at home and not in my office because I roared with laughter so loud I might have sprained my vocal chords.

And the laughter was not only because the dialogue was so funny, but also a sign of surprise and OMG-it's-Genius and my-jaw-just-hit-the-keyboard sort of appreciation. My brain is just thjumpsing.gifththdog.gif

This is fantastic! It is some kind of meta meta reality, breaking the fourth wall in both directions, characters writing themselves...

Mofftiss - I swear I will never doubt you again. I'm ashamed that I did.

I'm on fire!

Drat, the day after the clip showed, and I have to be out of the office all day and not with my fellow Sherlockians!

Short comment:  I liked the clip.  I think it is going to be very meta and self-referential to canon, at least from the part we saw.  I'm looking forward to having an episode in which knowing a bit more about the ACD universe increases the enjoyment.  ("I'm hardly in the one with the dog!") And I agree with Toby that it will be fun to see what BC and MF can do with Holmes and Watson now that we know them so well  as Sherlock and John.

And, it's a typical Moffatt Christmas special: snow falling on Victorian London!

Carol, I think you could send your transcript to Ariane - just to avoid double work.

As for the Andrew bit: well, that needs a transcript too :D

And Ben muttering his Hamlet... I fear we can expect a baby boom coming

next spring, because -> http://www.alveni.de/more/My_voice.mp3

The part with Andrew is probably recorded recently as he mentions the heat.

Baby boom next Spring, what do you mean?

Oh I see, or rather hear...a bit of silliness!

I was assuming it was the opening of the Special...but maybe after the titles have rolled.

I have been avoiding this forum (and anything Sherlock) for months, mostly for fear of spoilers and speculation. And I found it helped me not obsess. But now this.  This was so amazingly awesome I am firmly back to the fandom and just dying for more.  Once again it appears they knocked it out of the park.

My favourite part is Sherlock being kind of snarky and hurt that he was hardly in the Hound of the Baskervilles, when of course normally he was all about pretending to hardly read the books and when he did he would usually complain that Watson romanticized and aggrandized him too much lol.  But then he obviously has been holding a grudge about not being so much in THAT ONE story even though he is the star of all the others.  His ego is bruised.  So cute.  I really enjoyed Watson in this clip, so likeable.  Mrs. Hudson was funny as always.

Yes for sure Carol, I caught the similarity to the Jeremy Brett opening, that was the first thing that made me squee.  Also loved the end of the clip with the "Coming Soon...ish".  It just crackles with personality and life from beginning to end.

Well, back to normal life until they throw us another bone.

It seems that while others are reading up on the original cases, I will finally have to force myself to watch some other adaptations. Not only the Jeremy Brett one, but also it seems that The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes is heavily referenced just in that little clip, so I suppose I'll have to give that a peak as well. It's almost like homework! :D

Maybe I just won't do it, though. A lot of nice people all around the internet are sure to spot and point out every little film reference. I shall take on the book part.

I've never been very fond of having people play Sherlock Holmes. This Sherlock is the one exception for me. Because I'm mad. That part is now official. I am F***ing mad.

Here, have a post-1784-0-97927900-1425829203.gif. I will wrap it around you and knot it behind your back, it will do as a strait-jacket-blanket. :D

Oh man, and people said TEH was too self-referential! I love this!

It was... a bit. But my impression is that the special is meant to be a little funny interlude before the rather grim main storyline continues, so as far as I am concerned, it is fully licensed to be silly. If the whole thing is like that clip, I won't complain.

So what do we know about the special now that wasn't certain before? Okay, Holmes, Watson and Mrs Hudson are pretty much themselves. That doesn't have to be the case for all the characters from the modern version, though - little Archie seemed to be some kind of a page boy, meaning he could be Billy, the page from the late stories who looks after Holmes a bit once Dr Watson has gotten married again and moved out once more.

We also know that it is not a retelling of the beginning. Dr Watson is already an established author and has published The Hound of the Baskervilles and many mores stories, so we're somewhere in the middle or towards the end of Holmes career.

What we don't know is who is living at Baker Street. My guess is only Holmes, because Mrs Hudson addresses just him when she talks about coming home. (Plus we've seen pictures of Mary, so it seems that Watson is already married in this version).

I wonder what is in the box Archie asks about. :)

Probably the squire's head!

That's exactly what I was thinking! :D

I loved Mrs Hudson's reaction to the published stories, and Holmes' s ready quip about himself not being seen much in the dog one!

Here is the panel from yesterday's SDCC with Moffat, Vertue and Graves.

Have seen ca. a half of it. Steven is hilarious. He definitely needs a role in the show! And then the writers should consider publishing their own fanfiction spin-offs, like the story Steven wrote about Karachi. :D

PS: The Special might be just one piece, because it ate the budget normally used for a whole season. Or even more. That's why the delay of S4. Maybe we should start crowdfunding Sherlock, just in case? ;)

What's Karachi?

Dear Aurelie, Karachi is where, supposedly, Sherlock saved Irene Adler's life at the end of SiB.

Right. Thanks, Inge. Did Steven really say that on the Bart's roof Sherlock was lying all the way from beginning to the jump?

Dang, I should go outside. It's not so hot and lovely, but no, I'm sitting at home, trying to process a creative kick I've got from the special...
