Send those clouds to my place, I prefer cooler temperatures and 'dark and dreary days' than clear sky and full sunlight.

Misery cloud coming your way :D

Thank you. In exchange, take my portion of summer sunlight and all the entailing conditions. ^^

Yesterday we had a thunderstorm here with buckets full of rain and hail (which afterwards looked on the eath like thousand little shiny diamonds!). I really enjoyed that, and an old song came to mind: 'Only happy when it rains' by Garbage :D

After finally finishing renovating my kitchen, I started a Buffy-Marathon. I so missed that, should do that more often.

Oh, I know that feeling! It rained almost every day in May here. I thought the month would never end. I wonder if it's the same humongous cloud, just drifting it's way around the globe causing misery? :d

The same humongous cloud with a lot of puppies, because I swear it caught me on three different places thousand of miles away within days.

I love dark and deary days when cuddling at home, but it's quite a misery outside, especially when you are not dressed in playing-in-the-rain attire.

Just about weekly for the last 3-4 weeks we have had 1 day with hail, tornadoes/strong winds, and heavy downpours. This past Monday was the most recent and included a decent amount of flooding in various parts of my state. This coming week, we have warm temperatures again 90+F & I expect the next rain chance to be severe (again). Thankfully I haven't been stuck with large crowds when these storms have struck.

Well, you know they say that introverts give energy to people, while extroverts draw energy from people. So it's not surprising that people wear us out.

Do they really say that? I'd believe it!

I'm actually a somewhat extroverted introvert. I can be quite the clown when the mood strikes me. I can also be very effective at public presentations, and even enjoy it at the time. But as soon as its over, I have to go home and play hermit till my energy regenerates.

I think its because in order to handle situations of that sort, I have to focus every bit of my attention and energy.

At last, home again after all day playing tour guide and porter for visiting aunts. I am ready to curl up in a quiet place but there is a niggling sense that I ought to do something before sleep. Maybe I'll read a few novel-length fanfics or go hunting a certain dvd that I searched where I put it at this morning.

Old joke but still relevant especially for today's happening:

How many people necessary to change a lightbulb? Introvert, one. Extrovert, a committee - they HAVE to make it a joint effort.

I dreamt about buying noise-canceller headphones. It must be my subconsciousness' way of stating that I need a break from extroverts who cannot function without music / TV / other people's voice droning on in the background. :|

Gaaahh! I *hate* that! What I really can't understand is when the droners are doing detailed work (e.g., writing software). How can they think?! Heaven knows I can't!

Or when I'm invited to visit someone, and the TV is on when I arrive -- and they don't even *offer* to turn it off.

'Course, that did work in my favor one time -- when the program was something I'd never heard of, called "A Study in Pink."

I completely get the headphones dream! I wrote my entire dissertation with ear plugs in, because even when my flatmates weren't playing music or being loud just the sound of them going up and down the stairs was enough to break my concentration. I live on my own now but I still do it sometimes if I have to go away for work and spend an extended amount of time with people because I have to just shut everything off for a while to decompress. If I can't physically get away for a while at least I can shut off the sound and get some peace that way for a while.

Eh, something I can really relate to. I could hardly hear my music without noise cancelling earphone and very tempted to buy one (not headphone), but good one always seem to be pretty ex. Also, I'm only comfortable using the classic cone shaped ear bud instead of new one that looks like protruding button, and it's more difficult to find now. Something not anatomically correct with my ear maybe, I can't keep the button ones in, they always 'pop'.

So now I'm still stuck with earphones that come together with handphone, or lower-tier quality ones.

My coach also recommended me some earplugs while using the train or something, when everything becomes too much and stuff. I have cheap in-ear phones and they are ok, and if I don't want music or audiobook, I can use those silicon earplugs which swimmers use. They are really good, because they take the shape of the ears when warmed, so they won't fall out. Usually I have too small ears for regular earplugs which are rather for people on construction sites or so....

I learned to use the earplugs in public, like while visiting a fair (or even the Con), but I wouldn't use them while walking on the street. I quite much relate on my hearing, so not hearing what's around me made me nervous for a long time. Now I even use the plugs when I drive for a longer time, my car is quite loud inside.

I don't think I could wear earplugs in public, I would be too paranoid that something might be happening behind me/around me and I wouldn't know. I do listen to music in public sometimes but if I'm walking somewhere that feels a bit iffy I'd keep the headphones on but pause the music.

I find I can only wear the things about 30-40 minutes, then I feel like my ears are going numb. Does anyone else have that problem? Plus I just worry how good is it for your long-term hearing to wear them a lot. Fortunately for me, there's not too many time when that is a concern.

Thanks!  I'll have to look for those.  When I go into some areas of the building where my husband works, I have to wear earplugs (for my own protection from the noise level), and the ones they supply just won't stay in my ears.

Can you still hear if someone's honking at you, or if a siren is approaching?

One place where I worked, I sometimes needed to communicate with someone in another room via a microphone and a headset.  The headset that everyone else used would give me a headache within about 15 minutes, due (I think) to pressing on the thin bones just in front of my ears.  When I told a co-worker that, he rummaged around in a drawer and found a lightweight headset with foam earpads, and they were no problem at all for me.  I guess everyone's ears are different.

I find most earbuds are a little to big for my ears.  The earbuds that came with my iPhone actually aren't.  I had 1 pair a few years back where you could change the part that went in your ear to have a slightly more customized fit.  They had 3 sizes to choose from.  My big issue is that my ears sometimes get sore or itch if the earbuds have been in too long.

Today I had a pretty good introvert day.  I had a meeting scheduled at noon that I found out after the fact was rescheduled for 2 weeks from now.  I give a boat load of grace & mercy to the guy who forgot to tell me.  It only took him the better part of 18 months to get any contact at all to be on the committee for the conference he helps plan.  I got to meet a couple of other people that help out so it was a nice way to transition in to being part of the committee.  Then I went to a coffee shop and worked on business & curriculum stuff for nearly 5 hours before heading off to a meeting at church.

Heh, love how this has turned into a discussion about ear plugs ;)

They don't make my ears numb, though they did take some getting used to. The silicon ones kind of freak me out - I can't get them to seal properly, my hair gets stuck in them, and the gummy, squishiness makes me feel like I'm putting chewing gum in my ears.

I'm having a grim day, it's pouring with rain (again), grey and depressing, and have just had people let me down on plans that I was looking forward to. Also pretty sure there's an argument imminent with my brother, who I work for, so that'll be fun. :(

Ah well, such is life, maybe things will perk up later, it's only 11am.

Hey, at least you can say there is no subject too dull for this forum!

I'm having one of those rare days where I'd actually like to have some people around to talk to. Maybe a walk will help.

Too dull!?

Earplugs are E S S E N T I A L !!

And yes, I can hear everything in my car while driving: the radio, the navigation, the sounds - just a bit tuned down. Using special plugs with filter.

I have PLENTY of earplugs, for every occasion.

From my experience those are the most powerful, but it's important to place them properly. The silicon ones are more comfortable, but less reducing.
