I ignore links. I didn't click even when there is a gorgeous BC on the cover. Hardly clicked even when the topic is interesting. Hardly clicked anything.

But I clicked banana man. I push that damn button.  I am not even curious. It's like I am possessed.

Need to contemplate my life choices.

This is awkward.

My platonic friend texted something not appropriate, something  along the line that he  was doing or thinking something while texting me.

We joke and talk about everything, but somehow this feels weird. I didn't know how to respond, he didn't elaborate. So we pretend nothing happen, at least we didn't text anything after that.

Maybe you could text him something about the weather, to sort of reset the situation.

Urgh, that's so awkward. I've had that happen to me a lot of times, for a while I seemed to be the person all my guy friends drunk-texted inappropriate things to. I've developed such a paranoia that I barely ever answer evening texts just in case.

Evening meetings aren't much fun when you feel like death. Luckily it's online so I'm in layers of fleece and have a trusty cup of tea-fixes-all next to me.

Big pile up on the motorway this morning, took twice as long as usual to get to work. I'm glad I left the house early this morning because the motorway was already a 'mare, the tailbacks are going to get worse and worse as the traffic gets heavier. Didn't seem like any cars wrecked, loads of police everywhere though, one lane shut.

Yesterday I had a cop or 2 ask a car to back up out of our drive-thru at work. That was the oddest thing. Thankfully I still had a few hours left as I don’t think I would have been able to move my car because of where they ended up.

You were harboring criminals in your drive-thru?

Not a clue. Will have to check the local paper when it arrives over the weekend (assuming we get it).

I'm exhausted. I left the house at 6.30am, and aside from a flying visit to get changed I'm just now getting home at 11pm. So tired. :(

Yet another reason I'm glad my phone doesn't do text.

He texted me on odd time hours after, quoting something from the news. At least he tried. But I kind of ignoring it and gave short yup seen that too reply.

But this is someone that I consider as my very good guy friend, one who knows me well, not a drunk and although we joke around, it was never as weird or inappropriate and this never happened before.

Wait..... your phone doesn't do text? But... what does it do? Only calling? Or do you mean fixed line?

I know you haven't found the need for smartphone yet (and I imagine it's nice and peaceful), but since the first mobile phone I remember I could text using that, eventhough it was more useful and handy to beat up a thief because of the size and weight.

Social interaction, eh? Can imagine.

Not as social as you might imagine, after work I went to see a talk on the history of Britain. It was good but longer than I was expecting so last night I pretty much fell into bed and now I'm back in work again. Yesterday just seemed to vanish, even though I spent most of the work day bored to death as per usual.

So what did you do after, did you text him back?

Oooo that sounds like something I'd want to go to.  Was it for your schooling, or just a random thing?

Just a random thing. An archeologist who's also a well known TV presenter was doing a talk on his top 100 places in Britain.

Actually, this is what I imagined. Which explains why you were so tired.

Not?

I only replied "Yup seen that too" and we are back to awkward silence, fortunately we communicate long distance and by text only. It's very unlikely that we will be on the same place this year.

That reminds me of the fence scene from Hot Fuzz.

Let me guess, I'm the red one?

Hey, what gave it away??

I want to say the hedge but you seem more lively than that. Quite so.

Nope, I'm definitely Simon Pegg in this scenario.

Nope, I had the text function disabled years ago on my old phone because I hated receiving texts, and the new flip phone doesn't even have a text function for some reason.

It's not that I don't need a smart phone … I have a lot of things that I don't "need", like an iPod. But I can't afford the monthly data plans … or at least, I have other things I'd rather spend my money on (like new songs for my iPod. :P ) I have no interest in surfing the 'net from a phone, but I would like to be able to accept online payments with one at my art shows. As it is, I have to lug my laptop to shows and hope for an open wifi signal, or risk not making the sale if they don't have cash or check. But the small number of shows I can do right now doesn't justify the cost of the data plan, soooo...….

Just had an incredibly boring tutorial, but the highlight was a guy started freaking out on his headset in the beginning not realising we could all hear him. 🤣

I had them disable the texting on my  beloved old flip phone, because I didn't want to pay for receiving spam texts -- not that I'd ever gotten any -- plus I just didn't see the point.  By the time I had to get a new phone (because my old one's technology was no longer being supported), I was needing to be away from home a lot, and thought texting might be useful (and it has been).

Not sure why I went whole-hog and got a smart phone, but it has also been very useful -- as you say, I don't need to mess with my laptop every time I want to go online.  I use only the minimal "minutes" because I make a point of going online only where WiFi is available.

I'm not sure what I'll want to do once I'm back home more or less full time.  Probably won't change much, actually.

What was he freaking out about?

His headset wasn't working properly, so he couldn't hear the tutor and didn't realise we could all hear him. So when she sent him a written message to say that yes she was talking and he needed to check his headset his response, again not realising we could hear him, was to yell, "this is F***ing bollocks!" What made it the funniest was the tutors startled noise and that when he was then talking in the chat box he was being all polite and friendly... but we'd heard... we knew the truth...
