I am pretty sure John can swim. Plus the boat doesn't even seem to have left the dock.

Boat scene plus previous posts of dog with Sherlock point to The Sign of the Four, but: they used the title for that mishmash of emotional rollercoasters and JohnLock ideas known as SoT, together with the name of the eponymous villain, Johnathan Small, in this case the photographer, not to mention Major Sholto.

They've already used a good bit of TSot4, true, but not the boat chase.  Cool!

 

Wonder what the hose thing is, floating in a circle around the boat -- something to do with a special effect?  Maybe when we see the boat in the episode, it won't be sitting at the dock like that.

Nope, the boat in TSot4 was the Aurora, "black with two red streaks."

That boat is part of a tuna fishing charter company based in Bristol. Somehow, I could never connect Sherlock Holmes's nervous energy with that most patient of activities.

Well, men do in reality change quite a lot when they have been single for a while and then enter a serious relationship. Plus becoming a father has it's effect as well. I guess the changes are believable enough, I just don't like them.
