Well, Sherlock isn't produced in Scotland or Northern Ireland, and I don't believe there have been any rumors of Wales leaving the UK. So the Moftisses should be safe enough with the BBC.

it does look like he purposefully flares out his coat, doesn't it?

If this series is really the last one, I expect a real ending, not some awful cliffhanger. if Moffat really knows they can't schedule any more seasons then they should really head for a real ending at the end of third episode, instead leaving the fans hanging. All good show must have an ending, or it will be ruined. I certainly don't want this type of thing like a great show like this.

Too late, the script's already been filmed!

With the exception of the first season, I would say they've given us enough of an ending each time. TRF, sure, we didn't know how he did it, but we knew he survived; and HLV had a rather satisfactory ending, I thought. Well, until Moriarty showed his face, but if it had ended forever there I would have just assumed they meant "and the game continues." Then gone into the corner and cried because I wouldn't get to see the game continue.

If there wasn't so many open questions, I would say HLV would be an acceptable open ending.

I liked both the endings of Dr. House and RDJ's second Sherlock (even more). I would accept something similar for Sherlock.

I'm a bit nervous about the crew reposting that Telegraph article. We know the media have no idea what they are talking about, but the crew? Do they really know everything? Okay, I think the question will emerge at all the official talks, and if not, I will surely try to interrogate/deduce all persons involved that I'll be able to meet.

You mean this article?

I don't understand what you mean by "the crew reposting it." Looks to me like it's a new article, cobbled together out of various new and not-so-new pieces, probably prompted by the recent Emmy nominations (which they mention at the end). The Moffat quote may or may not be new. They give no information about when/where he said it, so it may well be recycled. It's certainly the sort of thing he's been saying for years.

I agree, I didn't see anything new in the article Carol refers to.

I'm not overly worried this will be "the end." What gives me hope is that they've said they've already plotted out season 5, so the will to make it is there ... it's just a matter of everything coming together. BBC could help by greenlighting it NOW instead of a year or two from now, but that's not how they do it, apparently.

It wouldn't surprise me if S5 were the end of a "regular" run, though. And with a slightly ambiguous ending. (And maybe a couple of specials every 10 years or so after that? :( Frankly, I'd rather they just pick an ending and be done with it, but I guess Sherlock Holmes never dies, he just fades away.....)

To be honest, after 15 or so years of this, I think I'll be ready for it to quit. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.......8GlwNgG.gif

But it was Rachel Talalay and at least one other person from the crew (but not MofSueTiss) were posting link to this article on Twitter. And I think they wouldn't retweet things they know are wrong. :wtf:

Well, it's not "wrong" ... they've always said they don't know how long it will go on, that each season could be its last. The flip side of that is ... maybe it won't be the last. They just claim to not know. (But if S4 is successful, I'd lay my money on there being at least one more season. Moral of story: coerce everyone you can think of into watching it. :d )

In fact, on re-reading that, I note that Moffat is specifically quoted as saying he would be "moderately surprised" if this was the last season. He many not know, but I'm willing to bet he has an inkling.

And the BBC never actually commissions a new series till the current one has aired. So Series 5 won't get either the green light or the axe till at least late January. (And I'm betting on the green light.)

It was reported that TAB made the BBC 225 million last year.  There is NO way they are not going  to do anything and everything Moftiss wants! (allowing for the schedule of the stars of course)

I've been assuming we'll get 5, as they've already written it, yes?  Or at least have a plan for it?  I'd be surprised if we get much more than that, though.

They have an outline. (Steven Moffat never writes until the deadline is looming. ;) )

Rather than get more nervous about the whole dithering debate, I went into the Sherlock Holmes channel, fell into the rabbit hole, in a manner of speaking, watched a marvelous rendition of The Speckled Band and then Basil Rathbone in The Lady in Green, comprising the famous violin scene where Moriarty steps on the creaking step! Had a whale of a time!

I watched the Lady in Green 2 wks ago as part of the watch-a-thon in the Giant Rat of Sumatra - fun!  the toilet flush visual of the doohicky on the coffee table was particularly... er... memorable!  The hair do on the Lady looked like it inspired Irene Adler in our version!  Loads of things that seem as if Moftiss "borrowed" as well.

Killing one of their most successful cashcow doesn't make sense and I sincerely hope that the people in charge would never do it.

Hope springs eternal! The Granada people also wanted to do all 56 stories, but then real life happened!
