I'm a bit hobbled though by the fact I don't know the Dying Detective story - does he pretend to be ill/dying? If he was in the bed could it be for that reason to fool Culverton?

Oh, of course! :facepalm: In TDD, Holmes pretends to be dying in order to trick CS into confessing to a crime. And of course he needs Watson to be his accomplice in this charade. Meaning of course that he lets Watson think he is actually dying.

I don't recall exactly how we interpreted that photo (two old teddy bears) when Gatiss first posted it. But it does seem possible that they're hinting Sherlock had a twin, or at least a sibling very near in age -- the other one.

Oh, I have no doubt that Moftiss and Hartswood are fully invested in S5. But it ain't a done deal till the BBC funds it.

It's unofficially on the books, you mean? To be fair, Moffat's said he'd be surprised if this were the last season. I think it was Ben that really scared people at Comicon; I don't have time to look for the clip, but he's the one who said this "might be the last season". You could hear the crowd faint. :d

And it's the twin who came back from Reichenbach, not the real Sherlock. That's why (some) people thought he seemed different after he came back... :d

 

Uggh, I hope that's not the real plot.... in fact, I have a hard time imagining any "Sherlock has a twin" plot that doesn't make me want to just shake my head in dismay. But it is suspicious, innit?

They've all said it might be the last season. And logically speaking, who could argue with that -- there ain't no guarantees in this lifetime.

 

But while they may have an understanding with the BBC, I'd bet that the money could still be yanked out from under them if S4 turns out to be a flop. Not that I expect that to happen!
