and there's heated debate as to what the term "golden wrap" means with Loo having used it herself at the end of S3.  And of course she is indeed back / still with the show.  So it didn't mean a final bit of filming for her.....

After a quick bit of googling, it would seem that the term "golden wrap" can refer to the final wrap of, for example, one season of a television show.  It does not necessarily imply that the show is finished forever.  So in this case, it would seem that AA is done with her filming for S4, and that may be all that she meant.

Amanda would never reveal any permanent departure of her character as that would be a huge spoiler.  She did say the ring had something to do with Mary's past and was not a wedding ring.  Even so, I am sure she cleared whatever she wanted to tweet with the show's producers so that nothing would be spoilery.  Although I could have sworn she posted last week that her last day of filming was then.  Perhaps they called her back for some pick ups.  Hard to say.

Radio Times referred to that ring as "an engagement ring," and on first glance, it does look like a diamond solitaire -- but upon closer examination of that photo, I'm not so sure.  What appears to be the face of a diamond could also be etched metal, and the double layer of metal could be some sort of secret compartment -- i.e., it could be a spy ring (which I didn't notice was a pun till after I'd written it -- sorry!).

 

But yeah, most likely a diamond solitaire.  In which case, was What's-'er-Name already engaged when she met John?  Does S4 see Sherlock clear up whatever it was (perhaps a frame or a misunderstanding) that could have sent her to prison for life?  And if so, does she return to her former existence, to live in peace and quiet with her old fiance(e) and her new baby?

 

I suppose we'll know in less than six months.  :P

Could be.  I mean, they've already had several oblique references to that, so why not be more direct for a change?

 

In which case it should really be a pearl, though, not a diamond.  Unless Mary went scuba diving in the Thames and found some of the other jewels....

Absolutely no opinion on what Ms Abbington may have been directed to tweet by Messrs Moffat and Gatiss, but the original Mary Morstan received pear-shaped, perfect natural pearls, by the guilt- ridden Thadeus Sholto, which pearls must have formed her entire dowry at her wedding, the rest having been thrown in the Thames during the Aurora chase.

Thanks, now I finally understand the "broadcast" that was alluded to in some post or other. I agree, it's shocking, I thought this season was going straight to be released only on DVD. :p
