The trailer! *flails*

Is there a separate thread for the trailer? I normally avoid this thread because I'm too wary of out and out spoilers so hoping there might be another one somewhere?

I haven't seen anything I would classify as a spoiler on this thread. The closest thing to a spoiler I've seen IS the trailer. Does that help? I'm wary of putting it anywhere else because this is the thread to avoid if you don't want to see it, if you see what I mean.

ETA: Maybe this will do? Here's a link to Toby's original post, so at least you don't have to hunt for it! http://www.sherlockforum.com/forum/topic/3343-spoilers-series-4-setlock/?p=101766

Fair enough :)

I'm never wary of trailers because it's stuff they want us to see and dissect, I just get concerned with Setlock pics which I love seeing but get scared someone will accidentally snap something which ruins things.

I'm guessing someone has already pointed this out, but there's no baby in that trailer...

Hmmmm. True......

For people like me that are having trouble making out some of the lines, some kind soul over on YouTube transcribed it for us....

Moriarty: Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Did you miss me? Miss me?

Sherlock: Somethings coming. Maybe it's Moriarty, maybe it's not. Somethings coming.

Lady Smallwood: We brought you back to deal with this, what are you going to do?

Sherlock: Whatever's coming whatever he's lined up, I'll know where it begins.

John: Enlighten me.

Culverton Smith: We're going to have endless fun Mr. Holmes, aren't we?

Sherlock: Mm no. No not endless.

Molly: For Christ sake Sherlock it's not a game!

Smith: evil laughter

Lady Smallwood: You say you know what he's going to do next.

Mrs. Hudson: Get out of my house you... reptile.

Mycroft: The roads we walk have demons beneath, and yours have been waiting for a very long time.

Sherlock: Keep me informed.

Mycroft: Of what?

Sherlock: Absolutely no idea.

I think the reptile line is due to Mycroft saying something hideously insensitive to John about Mary or the baby after something terrible has happened to one or both of them.

I thought it was I'll know 'when' it begins not 'where'

"When" would make more sense.

I'm not entirely convinced that's John looking at the bed in the hospital room, could it possibly be Smith?

I'm scared, I'm not much of a crier but I think this season might make me cry .... darn you, Moftisssssss!

Is it just me or any of you think that this series will going to be a bit more action-y? Bond-like?

Ok it seems they have moved far from the original essence of the ACD stories. It doesn't look like our Sherlock at all.

If this really happens I will be disappointed.

It does look quite actiony, but that doesn't bother me. Really the show has always been pretty action packed, there's always been a lot more running and physicality than I remember from the books. I think it works because it's set in the modern era they don't have to be concerned about being 'proper gentlemen.'

Also, we do have a special thread for serious spoilers:  "SPOILERS! True Spoilery Spoilers (Series 4)."  Of course there's no guarantee that someone posting a Grade A spoiler would actually use that thread -- or even this one.  But it's a start.

I'll go bump that one, just to help people remember that it's there.

Added:  REMINDER:  If you want to post a big fat spoiler and you don't recall where you're supposed to put it, just remember this -- at the very least, DO NOT start a new thread with the spoiler right in the title!  :o   Thank you.

I'm feeling less than confident about season 4 after the trailer.  Mycroft being called a reptile by Mrs. Hudson?!  Myc, what did you do?!  Also, Molly sounds so upset, and then is that Sherlock in a morgue looking very distraught?   I'd trade all the Hiddleston Sherrinfords in the world to see Molly safe and sound and Mycroft not some heinous, evil person.

Lady Smallwood, yes, we like her!  She got a bit of the short end of the stick in HLV.

yes, Magnussen did make her husband commit suicide.  Gatiss said in an interview about S3 that he loved working with Lesley Duncan and why hadn't they gotten her on the show before so I suspected they'd continue her.....  I love her too!

Well, I think the last three lines of the trailer reflect the show's snark to the fans of keeping us "informed" of something about which we have no idea.  And truly, the trailer gives us no idea.  Just bits and pieces sewn together to form a trailer narrative but nothing else.  Also, they are still in the editing process, and as often happens in trailers, what we see there doesn't always end up in the final cut.  This is definitely true of theatrical trailers.

They also still have 2 more weeks of shooting left, and then they go into even more editing to get it all down to 90 minutes per episode, maybe 89 minutes.  In the USA they try to keep it just under 90 minutes, even at 89 because something 90-120 minutes is a higher residual pay scale, so docking the film by one minute to keep it just under saves a lot of money later, but I don't know if that same time/residual schedule is effective in Britain.

Yeah, and right now, I'm going to guess that TH is just there to mess with the fans.  Now, Mary as "blud" - as "the other one" - now, that would be interesting!

As long as they stay away from The Three Garridebs in whatever interpretation! Sherlock looking upset like that, it can only be two people at the other end: John or Mycroft.

It would certainly explain a lot -- while raising even more questions!  Not much family resemblance, though.  ('Course, if one of the senior Holmeses actually was messing around, she could be just a half-sister, which would be fairly believable.)

And wasn't it in the commentary for one of the early seasons that the back story they had considered was that Dad had had an affair and one of the boys exposed it accidentally?

Also, I'm not sure what AA's real hair color is, but she's a pretty convincing brunette on Mr. Selfridge, and it wouldn't be tough to imagine that she might go from brunette to blonde as a disguise, so there might be at least a touch more resemblance.  And it might well be that the bio-mom immigrated to America or was actually American, and that would explain how Mary wound up in the CIA.

And seriously, Mary as "the other one" would accomplish two things for me:

  • It would explain the "don't be ridiculous" look that Sherlock gives John when John says "Look at you two; you should have gotten married."
  • It would round out the explanation they started in HLV that the Sherlock personality is simply "what John likes."

Can you imagine the Christmas dinners?   :D

Oh God, I hope she's not Sherlock's sister, that would be so cheesy :(

Or possibly baby Watson. Though Sherlock doesn't seem like a kid person I can imagine him being very attached to baby Watson simply because she's part John.

I absolutely agree. Ugh. This team can pull a lot off, but I doubt they could make that palatable to me. I actually think it's bad enough if Moriarty turns out to be the third Holmes sibling.

Still really hoping "the other one" is dead.
