Oh, right, of course. Thanks, I was wondering about that abbreviation myself.

And I agree, the underwater filming could have been scheduled whenever the specialists were available -- especially if none of the actual cast were involved.

I saw 3G and thought it had something to do with my phone, at first (since I'm having to replace my phone because it's no longer the correct G.) Then I thought maybe it was Johnlock code. I always want everything to be clever, apparently... :p

Yeah, me too! We've got too many codes on the brain already.

But you are clever, Arcadia. We were relying on that.   ; )

Don't! I'm usually the last one to get things! :d

It occurs to me that we may have gotten our "3G moment" already, in a way.

In TEH, John is threatened by being put into a bonfire (though his only injury is feeling "a bit smoked"). In HLV, John is threatened again by the same man. This time, Sherlock doesn't just threaten to kill the villain (as in ACD's T3G), he actually does kill him.

I always thought they used the Three Garridebs scene already in The Great Game, at the pool. John even makes a joke about "tearing my clothes off", which I took to be an allusion to Holmes cutting open his friend's trousers with a pocket knife to uncover the bullet wound.

They do seem to use everything in bits and pieces, don't they?

And that is why I insist on smoke and mirrors, while making me an odious Granada fan who hates the constant lying just to preserve their precious copyright!

I've just watched the official trailer of season 4. I admit I'm quite confused. Ehm....I'm REALLY confused. The only thing that was clear for me, it's that something really bad is going to happen. And that I don't like Sherlock with beard. There was a lot of fire and shooting, aand....also Mycroft seems a bit confused.

If Mycroft is confused we are lost.

I'm so confused confused confused confused. Oh my.

Well, I just watched the first episode of Startup last night, and, for me, the difference in John's appearance in the Sherlock promo photo is explained:  MF clearly buffed up for the Startup role, and he's one of those men who gets sinewy when he gets muscular.  Good heavens.  I think every fan fiction writer who ever wrote about John having some slight middle age paunch that was hard to work off needs to go back and edit their stories, because there is not an ounce of fat on that man.  (fans self)

Good luck with that! I only like Mr Freeman as a Hobbit. And his performance on Sherlock up to now has been workmanlike, but nothing exceptional. He was much more believable in The Hitchhiker's Guide.

And I am getting seriously worried about the trailer for S4 and TAB both repeating the "Something big is coming" line from SIB. Coincidence would be ruled out by Mycroft. Is Mr Moffat letting the universe become so lazy?

I'm confused, I thought that started tonight! Hopefully it's still accessible...?

I thought so too, but I was setting up the Crackle app last night because it takes for-flippin'-ever to put in a user name and password using a remote control, and once I got it all set up, the episodes were there.  It looks like they released several and will probably have them available for a while, kind of like Netflix does OITNB.

(Come to think of it, that's a good analogy to the level of grittiness, for those who were unsure how rough this would be.  Totally different subject matter, but about as rough as OITNB.)

Not that I've seen that either. :D

Okay, I've found it. Oh my, have to turn the volume down on that part. Good thing my mom's almost deaf... :d

It's just wrong seeing MF do those things with another woman... JAWN, what are you doing??? Ack.  I can't erase it from my eyes

I've only watched the first few minutes so far, but my first thought was ... "Bilbo! Language!" :D

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is, I suspect, 90 percent of why MF decided to do this show.  You can't watch this and think about John Watson or Bilbo or Tim or any of them.

I agree, Boton.  I think MF made a conscious decision to springboard offa Sherlock into leading man territory.. and it's taken him this long to get to StartUp.  Hence the muscles, the hair, etc lately.  I can't help but think of Una Stubbs' comment on TEH commentary:  she says that MF kept saying to them (when choosing a mustache style) "but I'm a sex symbol !"

I agree. Most actors dislike being typecast, and for good reason ... it limits their options in an already competitive field. Yeah, they love doing it, but they also do it to feed their families.

Having said that ... (and please note, I've only watched up to the first commercial break so far) ... I'm really un-fond (?) of gratuitous sex, language and violence, which I obviously think this show has, or I wouldn't have just thought of 90 different ways to get the same point across without forcing that very, very young actress to expose herself that way in practically the first scene. I keep thinking, what if that were my niece cast in that role? A bit not good, Hollywood.

But I know I have to put up with it if I want to see the rest of the show, so we'll see how it goes. But I do find myself wishing actors would refuse to do certain scenes .... not just for the sake of their co-workers, but for their impressionable followers. Now we're going to have people who think it's okay for a guy to embarrass a girl like that just because he's a badass and she's a whore. Again ... a bit not good. *sigh* Mums, if you let your boys watch this, please explain to them why the behavior of Martin's character was totally sick in that first scene.

If this turns out to be one of those shows that just gets worse from there, I'll have to stop watching it ... too stressful for delicate little me. But I've noticed a lot of shows lately put the most, um, outrageous stuff right up front, then become relatively tame after that. So I'll give it a chance.
