Blade Runner, is it the one with Wesley Snipe, for older version? For some reason he repelled me with imo, punchable face. :p I think I only watched bits of it where it was yucky when there was blood sucking or something. Until now, I don't know what the franchise is about and not curious.

Therefore I'm happier to choose Wakefield to watch last weekend.

I'm sure there are mix review about the whole movie especially the ending. I like it, and curious to know other's opinion. Any? No time to write more now though.

I rated Wakefield 4/10, it was very disappointing to me. I loved the starting concept of it, but it resulted in a rather unexciting film. Of course Cranston was great though.

Also I didn’t like the open ending, I didn’t like that he just walked in and we didn’t see anything else, and maybe the concept was good but I just disliked it.

The Snowman. The people I went with enjoyed it, I was bored beyond belief. Nearly fell asleep a few times.

Yes, Cranston carries the whole movie almost by himself.

I was surprised by how it ends, and a fellow audience disliked it as well, someone actually said,"you gotta be kidding me!" when the credit rolls.

But somehow I like it. I think giving it a definite conclusion would not be as good for various reasons.

In my mind, eventhough we see everything in his POV and invited to sympathize with him, and I do, I think he is quite a monster. Well of course, escaping, enough and hell with it is the what if side most people likes to entertain. I think it's still mind provoking when he prefers to watch his loved one suffers for him, and it gets interesting when he tells the stories, fully in his mindset about his manipulation and sociopathic way of looking at it.

Last, eventhough he seems to have gone through journey to be more appreciative, I think he doesn't. In fact, I think he is the same monster, or worse. He decides to come back when his ex-friend ans rival is back, when the family have moved on and his wife starts to find happiness. Eventhough it's open end, to me, there is one conclusion. He is still as toxic and worse, although I sympathize with dull life, as so he thought.

*end spoiler*

So, perhaps I'm bored with plethora of repetitive superheroes movies, uncreative sequels of animations that really runs out of ideas, milking from good originals (ice age sequels, suck, despicable, suck, shreks, go away. Kung fu panda, it works once. So on) Even original animations bore me. Every interesting start almost always end up with boring villain stuff (I like the beginning of Life of Pet for example, but it gets into cliche and sucks), so.. I appreciate simple realistic plot, that villain not always a big over the top baddies but it could be your own demon, bla... bla... I find it's more interesting.

Thor ragnarok 7/10

Minor nitpicking though

In Norse mythology: the goddess of death is Hel, not Hela, Hela is a meme.

Spoilers ahead

first of all, Hel is the daughter of Loki, not Odin. Secondly, Hel doesn't look like her Norse counterpart, she's looks like two-face: one half of her face is beautiful and the other is a rotting corpse. Thirdly, Fenris is also a child of Loki, and therefore Hel's sibling which is not mentioned at all!

Oh, is it finally out? I want to see that, but it's probably not suitable for my mom, is it? :( Dang, I'll have to wait until I can find someone to mom-sit....

I'm getting weary of superhero films - would you say this one different enough to be worth watching?

Do you see Fantasy Lover? I want to see it. But you said 7/10. Isn't it wonderful?

It's been released this week. Why do you think it's not suitable for your mom?

Hmm, though question. It has the all the traditional elements of a marvel movie: it's humour, the obligatory Stan Lee cameo. Apart from that, it's different because it doesn't take place in Asgard and nothing is the same anymore. So it's funny and also dark.

It is! It's just that I don't like some of the things they did that I mentioned in the spoiler, plus I'm not a fan of the soundtrack: too electrical, if that makes any sense.

Oh, because she's older, and very practical, and doesn't really "get" fantasy. And it's probably pretty loud, too, which bothers her. But I didn't really expect you to know all that! I was just sort of thinking out loud.

I’ve never posted on this thread before because I’m not a big movie buff really. There were 2 films I was going to ask opinions about. You’ve covered one. The new Bladerunner movie - no one seems a fan here but the original is one of my favourite movies. I play different versions of the soundtrack from YouTube regularly whilst I’m reading. I will get around to seeing the new movie eventually (I hate cinemas though.)

The other one is The Golem. Has anyone seen it? I have the book and read it years ago. I might have to re-read it before I watch the movie. Bill Nighy is usually good. It’s been mentioned on the Jack The Ripper Casebook forum that I use. No one has used words like ‘amazing’ or ‘brilliant.’ ‘Good’ is about as good as it got.

I also noticed a trailer posted on here about ‘The Alienist.’ I assume that it’s been released? The book by Caleb Carr is definately recommended

One more thing (I sound like Columbo) did I read somewhere about a Laurie King ‘Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes book being made into a movie? I assume that it would be The Beekeeper’s Apprentice? Did I imagine this or does anyone have any info?

Back again! When I said ‘The Golem,’ of course I meant ‘The Limehouse Golem.’

The Golem has been filmed a few times. From the silent up until Hammer Hortor time.

Me too. I think I'm ... bored.

Although I admit most at least still entertaining, but it hard to shake the predictability.

The Limehouse Golem looks interesting, but I haven't seen it yet.

If you were a fan of the original Bladerunner film you would probably like the new one as they are very similar in tone. Some of the guys I went with liked it, and I know it had good reviews by critics. I think maybe men tend to like it more than women - I went to see it with three guys and two girls, two of the men thought it was great, the rest of us were unimpressed. The over the top sexualisation of women got to me, but that's unlikely to bother menfolk as much.

The Alienist is being released as a TV series, it looks likely it's be released through Netflix in this country.

Exactly. I think that's part of the reason I liked Logan so much, it was so different. And brutal but in a realistic sort of way.

You could be right about it being a man/woman thing? I’m a huge fan of Laurel and Hardy but I read somewhere that men are far more likely than women to like them. I don’t know why that would be though?

This is the first I've heard of it, book or movie.  Could you give me a one-sentence synopsis of the setup?  Just offhand the title sounds kinda not-my-type, but I've never yet been disappointed with Bill Nighy (well, other than in Harry Potter, and I doubt that anyone could have made that role memorable -- not sure it was even supposed to be memorable).

Not a one liner Carol but this is the blurb:

‘Victorian London is gripped with fear as a serial killer is on the loose and leaving cryptic messages written in the blood of his victims. With few leads and increasing public pressure, Scotland Yard assigns the case to Inspector Kildare, a seasoned detective who has a sneaking suspicion that he's being set up to fail. Faced with a long list of suspects, Kildare must rely on help from a witness to stop the murders and bring the maniac to justice.’

The only reason that I got the book originally was because of the similarities in the story to The Whitechapel Murders.

A Golem is from Jewish folklore. A creature created from inanimate objects.

You will remember the assassin in Sherlock who was known as The Golem.

And Kildare is played by Nighy?  That sounds like it could have possibilities.

Apparently Alan Rickman was to play the role before he died.

Hmm, well his character Rufus Scrimgeour is very unpleasant in the books soo.

Anyway, Kingsman The Golden Circle 5/10

I don't like this movie, it was awkward, painful and uncomfortable. I think it meant as a criticism towards Trump and his incompetence but with some of the writing choices, it just falls flat. Spoilers ahead!

it features a cruel president and the war on drugs (remind you of anyone?) When a evil drug dealer poisons drugs, the POTUS's reaction is to change large areas like a football stadium into large prisons, and then cage the people TO LET THEM DIE because drug users are apparently no better than criminals. There were some good moments in it though: Merlin faces his death while singing "Take me home, country roads" and it has Elton John in it and he steals the show in every scene he is in. But it doesn't take away the fact that it paints drugs and drug users in such a negative way. I know that there are people who die because of it, but what about recreational use? What about that one time you experimented? What about medical use? What about babies born of a addicted mother? What about them? Should we punish them as well? I don't think so.
