The Favourite Movies Thread

Recommended Posts

Think of this as a "Reccomendations area." as it were.

A few of my all time favorites:

  • Star Wars IV, V & VI (I'm not a hater of I, II & III, but the originals had plot)
  • The Matrix
  • Pulp Fiction
  • Kill Bill 1 & 2
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • Harry Potter (All Of Them)
  • The Silence Of The Lambs
  • The Shawshank Redemption

What movies/films are your favourites?

Harry Potter (all of them).

The King's Speech....

Dune (read the books first, the movie makes sense if you know the story).

Anything with Daniel Day Lewis in.

Anything with Liam Neeson in.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Hunt for the Red October.

Okay, let's keep it short and add "anything with Sean Connery after 1980-ish in it"...

Star Trek. All of them. Classic and new. Particularly the ones with Spock.

Time to add some romance ones to add to the thread. Boys, you should watch these too, I promise they are not inane chick-flicks.

Pride and Prejudice (I actually haven't seen the BBC version yet, bad me! But I ADORE the Kiera Knightly version)

The Princess Bride

Love Actually (I kind of lost it when I retroactively discovered that Martin Freeman is the, um... exposed actor in this film.)

The Notebook

Before Sunrise (the sequel Before Sunset is OK, but I wouldn't call it a must-see) (Ok, so this one might be "inane", but I like it)

And some not-necessarily romantic ones that are also on my favourites list:

Garden State

The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy (hello, young Martin Freeman!)

And some highly-recommended anime movies from me:

Anything from Miyazaki, father or son (personal favourites are The Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns)

The Girl Who Lept Through Time

Any of the films by Makoto Shinkai (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in our Early Days, and Voices of a Distant Star)

So, hey, I'm a romantic. Can you tell? :hugz:

I like the Princess Bride, though it's probably more that I like the childhood memory than the movie itself :D Haven't watched it in a long time, so I'm not sure :)

Love Actually has Liam Neeson in it. I think I've watched mostly everything that man has been in....

And yeah, how could we forget Hitchiker's Guide! It has ALAN RICKMAN in it! :D

I've never seen Love Actually (not a rom com fan) but now I'm thinking I might dare it...

It's quite good. My fiance's entire family loves it, they're not much rom com fans either. There's a bunch of different storylines in it, so there's something in it for everyone.

My all time favourite film is Enemy at the Gate.

I have a thing for anything about warfare and I have a particular interest in communist Russia. Throw Jude Law into the mix and this film was practically made for me.

And I also LOVE Taken with Liam Neeson in it.

Pride and Prejudice (I actually haven't seen the BBC version yet, bad me! But I ADORE the Kiera Knightly version)

Oh, please do watch the BBC version! My mom and I HAVE to see it every 3 months or so :P. It is really really really good and historically very correct :)

My favs:

The Boat that Rocked (HILARIOUS)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (HILARIOUSER)

LOTR of course

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Finding Neverland

Big Fish

The King's Speech

Harry Potter (especially the first, the third and the last)

Pirates of the Caribbean XD

Narnia

and a very special one: Komt een vrouw bij de dokter.

This is a heartbreaking dutch film, but oh so beautiful. The leading actress is our dutch gem: Carice van Houten.

I don't know if it's available in other countries, but I can guarantee that it's worth importing it.

Amongst my favourite films are:

  • Blade Runner- years ahead of its time!
  • Edward Scissorhands- a modern day fairy tale
  • Casino Royale- the Daniel Craig version
  • The Deer Hunter- Vietnam
  • Pirates of the Caribbean- first one was brilliant
  • The Boys from Brasil- Gregory Peck at his best
  • Harvey- the invisible rabbit with James Stewart
  • Good Will Hunting- outstanding performances
  • The Good , the Bad and the Ugly- a classic spaghetti western
  • The Magnificent Seven- adapted from Japanese film into a Western
  • The King's Speech- such a well-crafted film in all respects

Actually hard to choose, hence the long list.

Well, some films I've seen hundreds of times:

- Tim Burton ones (Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Corpse Bride, Big Fish Edward Scissorhands are my favorites!)

- Pirates of the Caribbean

- Pride and prejudice (love story, it's so beautiful!)

- Moulin Rouge (Ewan Mcgregor, Nicole Kidman, gorgerous songs...)

- The Lord of the Rings

- Sherlock Holmes haha!

- Memoirs of a Geisha

and so so so on... I love watching films!

I made the mistake of watching "The Sixth Sense" with Sherlock once, two minutes in he shouts "He's a GHOST" and turns it off.

That sounds like Sherlock!
