Besides, he may well have meant it as a compliment.

Mercifully, I think the days are gone when at a certain age, women "graduated" to old-lady clothing.

This is what I'm hoping for!  I don't dress much differently age-wise than I did in college (15ish years ago).  I suppose I've let a few things go over time, but overall I've hardly become more mature in my attire.  I just buy what I like and what is comfortable.  I've mostly decided that outside of making sure I'm dressed appropriately for work and formal events, I'm gonna just keep buying what I like.

 I like that. I think I found my style while at university as well, and see little reason to change it.

The colleague may have meant to pay me a compliment, but it seemed more as if he were laughing at me. No matter. He's still a good guy to work with, and that's what counts - his remark just gave me a serious case of insecurity.

Anyway, I have bigger things to be mad at right now. Like the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch is playing Hamlet and a cinema near me is broadcasting a performance at a time when I actually will not have to work, and I can't go because it's sold out.

Hamlet is one of my favorite plays, goddammit. And I've always thought I'd love to see him do Shakespeare, and I love that movie theater and it could all be perfect but I can't get a f***ing ticket!

I'm so mad at all this that I'm almost hoping the production will suck. Which is pretty awful, I know, but I'm just so angry right now over my little first-world problem.

How is it sold out?!  Showings of National Theatre Live plays I've seen here in the States are usually a ghost town.  So clearly the solution, Toby, is just hop a plane to the States!  Philly is nice.  We have a giant bell with a big crack in it.  I honestly haven't even checked yet to see when it will be playing locally.  Maybe I should to that.

Short answer: I don't know.

Long answer: Most half-way educated Germans I know (of) have a huge respect for the theater and British culture and Shakespeare. So a live broadcasting from the National Theater doing Hamlet is bound to attract an audience pretty fast, especially in a large town with a big culture scene, and when you add a main actor whom most people around here have actually seen before on television, well, it's probably no surprise the tickets were gone within a few days.

Also, this same cinema recently showed The Imitation Game and people loved it, so the regular visitors there are almost all Cumberbatch fans anyway now.

I'm still hoping all this will lead to them showing the Sherlock special. If they do that and I can actually get in this time, I'll be almost resigned to missing Hamlet. But almost. I mean, I don't even have to work that day! If I couldn't go because I had to take a shift, that would be okay (well... no, but more okay). But the ticket thing - that bother me big time. Because I knew this was coming and I wanted to buy one way back in April, but they weren't selling them yet, and now I've missed the day when they started selling. AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toby, you can come here. In Stuttgart there are still free seats, even if the best are already taken .

I have a ticket (and a dilemma because the date might collide with my vacation plans.)

Ouch. I feels for you, Toby.

It's playing in several places here but tickets haven't gone on sale yet. Weird. If they sell out here, I will likely miss it too, I don't have time to constantly monitor the assorted websites.

I see it's going to be re-released too, but not until March (!) Oh well, if I have to wait until then, I will wait. That's what we do......

Apparently, here in America, we're pretty herpa derp about theater.  lol.  But then this doesn't really surprise me.  *sigh*

Yeah, first showing here is in October and it's "captured live" so I'm assuming it'll be midday.  But still too early to get tickets.  The rest are encore performances and seem to go into November.

Oh, I hadn't seen where encore viewings would be available so soon. That's good, then I don't care quite as much about catching the "live" version.

Seriously? Wow. Stuttgart is pretty far from where I live (and I have to get up early the next morning) but you've given me a great idea: Check other cities! Hmmm... what larger places do I know of near by where the population might be a little less interested in the production? Going on a google search right now!

What would I do without you guys?

J.P., you are a genius! After a little looking, I found a theater in a town I can get home from at an almost reasonable hour that will both show the production and still has seats. HURRAAAYYYYYYYYYY! Now I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs and biting my nails, waiting for the e-mail to arrive that's supposed to confirm my reservation. Please, please, please hurry up, I can't stand the suspense!

If this actually works out, I'll be over the moon. And because people were so dismissive about my disappointment when I couldn't get tickets to the place near me, I won't tell anyone I'm going after all. I'll just sneak over there one night and it'll be a little secret - between me and the internet! :P

Come on, e-mail... how long can this reasonably take?

If it helps any, the cinema showing Hamlet in Vienna, the Haydn, has an encore on October 29th due to the 15th being sold out as well - so anyone else in T.o.b.y's situation, re-check your cinema, I can't imagine ours being the only place to offer a second showing. And congrats, T.o.b.y!

Toby, you are aware that you will be coming back late at night, don't you? The next day might be hard. :)

And yes, I know I'm a genius. A coworker says it to me few times a month. But thank you anyway. thlittlekiss.gif

Of course there's a second chapter to all this... I just realized the reason I haven't received an e-mail is that I actually managed to misspell my e-mail address on the form - twice! ARRRGH. I feel like the stupidest person on the planet. Cue frantic hotline calling. Long wait (very annoying music). Nice but clueless person on the other end of the line. Finally was told to send an e-mail to someone with my correct e-mail. Now I'm wondering who actually got the reservation number and what they will do with it.

Think I'll give it all 24 hours (mainly to cool down) and then try again. Screw the money. My overtime from last month could pay for a lot more tickets. I'm just hoping I'll still get any - the place looked pretty full.

Don't we have a tearing-out-your-hair emotie?

Nope. Emoties are mostly bald. But you can have this one.

Perfect! :D

But seriously, I feel like such a dunce. How can one person mess up so much? How can I consistently misspell my very own email?

Only this day, my boss said I was "capable". Ha! If he knew... If I didn't have a team of people around me at work to point out my goof-ups, things would be pretty dangerous in my vicinity a lot of the time...

Yes, you actually do -- I've seen it! (Though "giant" may be a bit of an overstatement. "Large," definitely.)

But did he say capable of what?  ;)

If you somehow miss out on that online ticket, you might see what your local theater does about last-minute cancellations.  Apparently some stage theaters, at least, will resell the tickets to whoever wants them.

Actually I meant the heavy drapes.

Until your post.

Hey, don't blame me -- it was Van Buren that mentioned "transparent"!  :P

I blame you both.

Congratulations, JP, I see your emoties have started having children. You must be so proud!

I am.

We can always blame Moffiss!

For Pete's sake, T.o.b.y -- you're 30!!!  If that's not young enough to wear cheerful clothing, I don't know what it.  (Though thank you for avoiding the leggings-and-maternity-top combos -- that is one look I simply Do Not Get.)

And all this time I think T.o.b.y is older than me, sorry for that :P

all the more I second Carol, and adding that looking cheerful is good for all ages. And the style that you mention seem very harmless and common.

(it's not like you are sporting spiky crew-cut with half exposed backside for example).

Good luck for the ticket.

Same here, my dressing style haven't changed since uni. I don't really want to outgrow that if possible.

Hurray, hurray. I got my email and my reservation number, so I will indeed see Hamlet when it's broadcast in October. WOW! In hindsight, I don't understand why I gave up as soon as I learned that my usual go-to cinema was sold out, I suppose I just assumed it would be the same everywhere else.

Now I am super excited. I'll have to read the play again at least once - hope I can find a good annotated edition somewhere. *Sigh*... my late grandmother had the best Hamlet, it was one page text for one page of explanations, but we can't find it and since she's dead, we can't ask her where she put it.

No matter. I'll find a new one. And I will see Hamlet! Live! It will be so exciting! Thank you so much, J.P., for giving me the idea to keep looking! YAY!

That heat. I stayed in my office much longer than I should, only to stay in an air-conditioned room.

Good over 36 Celsius, in some places around here it hit 40 (a record). I hate heat. My brain needs a certain temperature range to work properly and it's definitely 10 Celsius less. mpr.gif

You poor thing... I don't work in a building with air conditioning, so I was poring sweat all day long and yesterday was even worse.

I don't do well in the heat.
