I feel for you.  The 2 times I've been in the hospital in the last 13 years, I've been lucky enough to have a private room so no snoring except by me.  But the boredom was definitely there.

You have my sympathy!

On the bright side, though, you have the internet -- the whole world at your fingertips.

Yeah, I know, you want to do what you want to do!

J.P. - how long are you there for?

Posted

Oh, dear God. It's three days and I'm already fed up with the continuous presence of others. Or maybe it's just the noise: the street it busy, my roommate snores, and there must be renovation work going on nearby, and they use something that makes constant whizzing tone all day long. I'm ready to trow things at the wall for the lack of a proper gun.

Bored.

Bored, bored, bored.

B.O.R.E.D.

Oh dear. I feel for you... I always say there's a reason we call it a Krankenhaus, not a Genesungshaus... At least this sounds as if the surgery itself is over and went well. Get better fast! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Curiouser and curiouser! When my dearly beloved aunt went to St. Joseph's in Bremen, she had a single room, no noise, a lovely garden for me to run to and smoke in frustration and pent-up fear, all on a Marinekrankenkasse allowance. What is your allowance? At least, you have the Internet to while away the hours! Get well soon!

I just want to take a minute to complain about the fact that it's 37 degrees here today (Google tells me that's 98.6 Fahrenheit, Americans). It's way too early in the season to be this hot. We can't go outside for any length of time. Such a waste of a weekend.

Posted

Does it normally get that hot there?  I wouldn't have thought that would be at all normal, even in July or August.  It's not all that common here, and we're way further south.

We usually have a few days of intense heat in August but average summer temperatures are around 30 degrees, which is still fairly hot. It's even hotter today: 38 degrees. This is very unusual for this early in summer and is making everyone paranoid about tornadoes. We had tornado-strength winds a couple weeks ago which resulted in huge trees being uprooted and crushing cars and roofs, and semis being blown over.

Always an adventure on the prairies!

Bet you make up for it in the winter!  :D

Let's see -- 30 C would be uhh, 86 F?  That's pretty typical summer weather around here as well, but with a number of days above 90 later in the season.

Dang, I hate that heat. 34C today and there should be 40! on Saturday. mpr.gif

I'm sticking and dripping and my brain stops working over 25C. I was hoping to do some stuff that was waiting for so long, now when I'm on a sick leave until the end of next week, and feeling actually quite fit. But instead of it I'm playing a couch potato, daydreaming and sleeping. Don't even like to use the laptop, because it heats.

Actually I would be better at work, because we have air conditioning there, and my under-the-roof flat has none. I will probably have to retreat to the cellar and maybe sleep outside again.

Wow!  It doesn't seem to get up to 100 (38 C) here as often as it used to when I was a kid, though maybe I just don't notice as much because (sorry!) nearly everyone has air conditioning now.  Last year it barely got above 90 (32 C) all summer, which was just wonderful.  Doubt we'll be that lucky again this year.

Maybe your heat is a blessing in disguise, because you need the rest in order to recuperate?

I am annoyed because I went to get myself measured for a bra. The service was great and you were treated with dignity.

I choose a bra I liked and asked for it in skin tone - it didn't fit even though it was the same size! The assistant said all the sizes differed.

That means that I will have to try on every new bra before I can buy it and won't be able to just pick up one which I think is my size!

You got measured for a bra? Wow. I don't think I've ever gotten measured for anything except my wedding dress, and that wasn't made by a professional...

It sucks when the one color you want in anything is not available in your size, or the one item in a store that fits you turns out to have a stain or a run. I hate that, because my body shape is very peculiar and it takes me for ever and a day to find stuff that works for it. I have only 3 pairs of jeans, and only two of those are really a good fit, and that only on certain days.

I've always thought that if I were super rich, I'd have my clothes custom made. I would wear the most outrageous things, too. Probably I'd end up running around like a female Jack Sparrow, and people would laugh at me to no end. Thank goodness I will never be rich. It would be a disaster (and probably a waste of money, since I dream of tailored clothing and collecting old houses instead of setting up a foundation and making the world a better place).

I hate that!  Seems like women's clothing has always been like that.  Back in pre-internet days, I bought a white blouse from a mail-order catalog and loved it, so I ordered the same thing in pink.  It was a lovely color, but was about my size at age ten.

When my husband goes shopping for clothes, he used to just look for his size on the tag and assume it would fit, but nowadays men's sizes seem to be variable as well.

I remember years ago I was in a jeans store, found the perfect fit, and asked for two more pairs in different colors. The sales lady recommended I try them all on first to make sure they fit the same, and of course they didn't. She claimed it's because, even though they may be the same brand, they may have been made in different factories.

Yes, that did seem to be the case with my blouses.  In fact, as I recall, they were made in different countries (with the cute little pink one having been made in a place where the local women are cute and little).

I tried on a long trekking pants, the length was pretty good but it was too lose on the waist, so I request for one size smaller.

By the time I tried the new size it seems fine so I bought two because I need them and there are discounts (normally I would shy away from this brand).

Somehow at home one was quite okay, the other was hanging high above my leg and much too short (looks ridiculous!), so much for useless 50% discount.

I didn't think the same size not fitting had to do with different factories, but instead that they cut huge stacks of fabric at a time.  So depending on where the fabric is in the stack, you can end up with slight differences in size.

Or a different factory -- or the wrong label -- or.....

Wouldn't they let you exchange it for one that really was the size it claimed to be?

For lord's sake... I feel discriminated against as a shift worker. I worked 12 hours today and have to be up early tomorrow for another 10 - 12. And what does my neighborhood do? Play super loud music until the wee hours. Because nobody ever has to work on a Sunday, right? They can make all the noise they want on a Saturday night, right?

Arrrrggghhh! I'd wear earplugs, but then I won't hear the alarm tomorrow morning. I'd close the window, but it is summer and then I wouldn't be able to sleep because of the heat (no AC in private homes in my little country).

AAARRGGHHHH! As if it wasn't bad enough that I have to work on the weekends all the time...

Oh, poor you! I can soooo understand, even if I don't have to work at weekends. consol1.gif

Loud neighbors are the ones to shoot at, instead of a wall.

If you put a cellphone with a vibration alarm under your pillow you should wake up even with earplugs.

There are also special alarm clocks for the deaf that vibrate your pillow, mattress or wrist to wake you up, and have stronger vibrations than a mobile, if you think it might not be enough to wake you.
