What other TV shows do you watch?

... "Elementary" isn't THAT bad ....

Hmm, I guess it's a matter of personal taste. I think Elementary is really good. It hasn't grabbed me the way Sherlock has, but as tv shows go ....

The plots are interesting and well crafted. The acting is good. There's a nice balance of drama and humor. As for attention to canon, well, Watson isn't a male army doctor -- but Holmes does keep bees.

I know there's bad blood between Hartswood and CBS over this show. Yes, CBS asked permission to copy Sherlock and was refused. But the Holmes stories are in the public domain, and Elementary is very clearly NOT copying Sherlock. I don't get the same vibe at all. They're both set in the current day, but (as Moftiss themselves are fond of pointing out) that's been done before. So I don't understand the animosity.

Anyway, I like the show.

I keep meaning to check out Monk. I liked Tony Shalhoub quite a lot in Wings, and thought he was also very good in Galaxy Quest. I don't know whether it's still on, but we don't have cable / satellite anyhow. There must be DVDs available -- will add season 1 to my Amazon wish list.

Yes, the 8th Monk Series was the last.

My husband has all the DVDs so I started watching the first series a while ago.

As for Elementary.. I only watched the trailer so far (it hasn't been broadcast in Germany up to now) and I just can't cope with Watson being female. And - and this is what bothers me the most - Sherlock and his 'universe' have to be british. I think, in Elementary, I would always miss all the references to London Streets, places, names etc. Because I also love London a lot. So I don't think that I will like Elementary very much. But maybe I'll have a try.. we'll see.

Oh yes, Sherlock is undoubtedly British, just look at all those references to tea! *laughs*

That reminds me of another show that is so British and has characters that love tea; Being Human UK (I have to say UK because there's a horrible US version too)

This one?  No, sorry, never heard of or saw it.

But I do seem to have a habit of liking shows that get cancelled because nobody is watching them -- starting with one I'm sure you've never heard of called Star Trek.  Then there were Tenspeed and Brown Shoe, Kaz, Love and War, Nearly Departed, The Cosby Mysteries -- at which point I pretty much gave up and stopped watching tv.

Seems to me I remember that happening a lot to me too.

Sometimes I wonder if the networks are saying, "Carol seems to like this show -- we'd better cancel it."

Hastily added:  But it only works that way for American shows!

Yes that's the one Carol, I really enjoyed that show and the whole concept, there wasn't really any supernatural type shows aimed at adults around in the UK at that time that I know of. It can't have been to popular though, my friend and I often wonder whether it would fare better if it was made now?

I think I may have heard of Star Trek, can't say I've ever really watched it, I never knew it was cancelled though, I always thought it was quite popular and had a large following??

I have a really bad habit of getting into shows several series in, and then just as I'm catching up and really getting into it, they announce that the next series is going to be the last one.

Did you ever see The Dresden Files?  Sounds like you might enjoy it.  It too had a short run, but at least that's available on DVD.

The original Star Trek tv series was actually cancelled three times.  The first two times, the fans raised such a stink that the network relented at the last minute, but they withdrew any real support for the third season, so the quality suffered and they were finally able to pull the plug.  The studio eventually noticed the amazing fan support, though, and made several movies with the original cast, plus a number of spin-off series, and of course the current new-cast movies.

I forgot to put Lost Girl on my list.

Also recently started watching Atlantis and Agents of Shield, so far I'm enjoying them both.

Person of Interest is great.  It's by Jonathan Nolan who wrote the Dark Knight films, and it's about a Sherlock/Mycroft level genius Harold Finch who creates this almost sentient program "The Machine" that looks through data like your emails, phone calls, etc. to predict crimes before they happen.  10 years ago it would have been science fiction, but now it's almost real, and the show manages to be really relevant, it started only a couple years before the Edward Snowden/NSA debacle.

A little list of shows I love and can think of right now

Sherlock (obviously)

Cracker

Breaking Bad

Twin Peaks

Orphan Black

Blackadder

Red Dwarf

Peep Show

The Office (UK version)

The Inbetweeners (UK)

Columbo

Wire in the Blood

The Shield

I watch a lot of TV so this isn't close to all the stuff I like, just a wee sample of stuff I really REALLY like :)

There was a really active member here about a year ago who was also a big Wire in the Blood fan, SherLOCKED221 (see her post earlier in this thread and note her signature!) -- you might like to message her.  Hope she gets a break from work soon, so she can come back!

Almost Human, which has Karl Urban (Bones from ST:ID) in it, is pretty amazing! It's still running it's first season, and is only on episode 9 at the moment, so there's not really too much catch-up to do. It's about a future in which crime has developed to such an extent that almost-sentient androids have been developed to help the police. Dorian (who is so adorably amazing and is played by Michael Ealy) is an android that was de-activated because it was too-human for comfort - it had outbursts of anger and breakdowns sometimes, just like a normal human would. Dorian gets paired up with android-hating PTSD-suffering Inspector Kennex, who has recently returned to the force after an attack that left him in a coma for almost two years.

It's just generally a pretty solid programme, and if you like sci-fi then you will like this!

A lot of my friends love them both. I don't watch either.

I am liking the new Tomorrow People series, though.
