What other TV shows do you watch?

This is pretty much the extent of my TV watching.

Current

Doctor Who

Sherlock

Downton Abbey

The Big Bang Theory

Game Of Thrones

DVD or Netflix

Columbo

M*A*S*H

Star Trek TNG

The King Of Queens

The rest of my TV time is spent watching baseball (April - October), the only sport I follow.  During the off-season, my reading goes way up.  I already spend a fair amount of time reading anyway.

Okay here's everything I watch religiously. Other than Sherlock, that's a given.

Currently Running:

Supernatural

Doctor Who

The Big Bang Theory

Downton Abbey

Endeavour

Inspector Lewis

Ended:

Are You Being Served?

Inspector Morse

I'm definitely a member of the SuperWhoLock clan. (For those who don't know, it's Supernatural+Doctor Who+Sherlock. If you're a Doctor Who fan and a Supernatural fan, you're expected to be a Sherlock fan. If you're a Doctor Who and Sherlock fan, you're supposed to be a Supernatural fan. They go together like that. I remember before I got into Supernatural and I was strictly Doctor Who+Sherlock, people would actually give me weird looks. Like I was stupid and didn't know what I was talking about. And by the way, this is new series Who they're mostly in to. Half of them haven't seen a classic episode in their lives.)

Is this enough of a rant?

Oh...am I?? Well, I'll be on it once I've finished series 7 of DW which will be about a year :D

I've seen one ep of classic who! Sorry couldn't help saying that...it was a few years ago so I don't remember much but our teacher had the DVDs of some classic who and she showed it to us. It was so funny, like there was this foam and it was meant to be this oxygen-eating...fungus...stuff...

I like Supernatural, but I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a fan and certainly not in the same way as I am with regards to Sherlock and Doctor Who.

Some of the monsters and special effects in classic Who look crap in comparison to what they can do today, but many of them were pretty good for their day (and some of them were crap even without the comparison to New Who).

No worse than most of the other monsters on tv at the time, though.  My friends and I noticed that the hokey monsters from Lost in Space inexplicably tended to turn up on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and vice versa -- we had names for a couple of them, "Spinach Man" and "Lobster Man."

Star Trek had some pretty good monsters, though (with my favorite being the Horta).

Sorry, I probably could have worded that a little more nicely. I am perfectly fine with people who are not fans of all three. I didn't invent the fandom trifecta, and it's only been around since Sherlock started anyway.

Speaking of classic Star Trek monsters, have you seen this ad?

Good heavens, the original Gorn suit is still around!  I saw it at a con once, but that was ages ago.

By the way, that episode ("Arena") had an interesting history.  The screenwriter came up with the idea and the Star Trek people liked it, so he wrote it up and it went into pre-production.  At that point, someone noticed that the plot was almost identical to that of a published short story, and the screenwriter said, "Oh my God, I read that story, but I'd forgotten all about it!"  So there they were, all set to film a story that they didn't own the rights to.

Someone thought fast, and approached the author, saying, "Hey, we really like your story, and we'd like to base an episode of Star Trek on it."  He was flattered and readily agreed -- unaware that a stunt man had already been fitted for the Gorn suit!

Wow, seems they were lucky there ^_^. Nowadays, you probably could get anyone to agree with that simply for the nerd street cred, but I take it Star Trek wasn't yet that popular back then.

Okay, since I am the EMPRESS of Loving-Shows-That-End-Up-Dying-An-Early-Death, I'm going to throw in a few really obscure ones ... anyone else remember these?

Earth 2 (so much promise...wah)

Roar (Heath Ledger! Nuff said.)

Max Headroom (which ended just in time, actually)

SeaQuest was pretty good at first.

and more recently there was something cool with Dominic Monaghan and John Cho in it, but I can't remember the name. (Yes, I remember obscure shows from 20 years ago but not one from last year....) Something about everyone missing a few minutes from their lives. Anyone?

And of course the late, lamented Firefly....

I think the only shows I've ever liked that made it past 3 seasons were Buffy and B5. I'm not sure what that sez about me.

And so happy to see another Reboot fan! Almost forgot that one, now I'm going to have to track it down. :-)

And since I'm in animation territory now...

the lovely Escaflowne, which Fox yanked after a half dozen episodes, thereby earning my eternal enmity.... (cemented by their "news" staff)

and the amazing FullMetal Alchemist, which may be the only show I would choose over Sherlock if I were stuck on the proverbial desert island. Maybe.

Yes, that's it! Thank you. I was really sorry it didn't make.

I wish somebody would produce DVDs of some "failed" shows that I remember fondly:

"Tenspeed and Brown Shoe" (an offbeat detective show starring Ben Vereen & Jeff Goldblum)

"Kaz" (an ex-con-turned-lawyer show starring Ron Leibman)

"Nearly Departed" (a variation on "Topper" starring Eric Idle)

At least two of these shows apparently had finished episodes that were never aired, which would be a real bonus.

I really like that programme, loved the quirkiness of it and it was original.

I'm a fan of the books too (the Dresden Files book series is on #14 and counting) though some book fans don't rate the tv series.

Apparently, the series was never meant to follow the books..... [Departure from novels][The Dresden Files]

[ "The show is not the books. It is not meant to follow the same story. It is meant as an alternate world, where the overall background and story-world is similar, but not all the same things happen. The show is not attempting to recreate the books on a chapter-by-chapter or even story-by-story basis." continuing by saying that viewers should not expect a duplicate of the books, and those expecting it would be disappointed.]

Which is why I have no problem viewing it as an AU, which makes it fit better with other fandoms. Many fans seem to forget that it not being in exactly the same world was the intention all along and have nothing but criticism for the differences and the 'wrong' casting of 2 of the female characters. Having said that, most people, even if they don't like the tv series, seem to like the casting of Paul Blackthorne as Harry and Terrence Mann as Bob.

There are elements of the same quirkiness in Castle, which is why I probably like that even though I'm not a fan in general of cop/detective shows.

I used to like the flashbacks to Harry's youth - I forgot how quirky Bob was!!! Thank you for that.  :D   I never got into Castle as I found it irritating!

Then I must be the Duchess or something! I swear, my liking a program is the Kiss of Death. HOWEVER -- that applies only to AMERICAN programs. So Sherlock is safe (*knock on wood*).

Was Earth 2 the Roddenberry thing -- or the other one?  I never can remember which name goes with which.

I absolutely loved Max Headroom!  It was roughly 100% quirk, so you may be right, not really sustainable.

Let me guess, you're were considered "too brainy" as a girl. :)

The Roddenberry thing was "Earth: Final Conflict." Geez, I'd forgotten about that one. "Earth 2", I have just learned, was another Amblin' thing.

Currently I'm into Game of Thrones, House of Cards, Mad Men, and Downton Abbey. Used to be a huge X-Files fan, and its spiritual successor, Fringe, is one of the most underrated series, imo.
